Chester College of New England Top Questions

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Desiree

Dedication and motivation are two key points I would touch with my high school self. The workload is higher than that of high school and if you cannot find the motivation to complete the trivial tasks, then you won't have it to complete the ones you want to finish. Without the basic education (English, Science, Math, etc.), you won't have the essential skills to succeed in the area you want to pursue. As an art student, dedication is mandatory. Remain dedicated to your work and take constructive feedback with a grain of salt. If you do not believe that what someone else told you about your work, then stick with what you have and stand true by that. Don't change yourself or your art style to appease anyone. Keep a grasp on who you are as a person and run with it.

If i could go back in time the first thing I would tell myself is to not slack off. Once you start slacking sometimes it is hard to get back on track and you end up not doing your best. Don't listen to what others tell you, if you are an art student and you like what you are creating that is all that matters. Don't change anything about yourself or your art to make others happy or because you think it would make you more popular. The next thing i would tell myself is not to be scared about this change in life, looking back now I dont know why I was so scared. Everyone starting their freshman year is in the same situation, they want to make friends and everyone makes friends more quickly than they thought. Everyone is scared and some of the friends you make in college are the friends you will have for the rest of your life. The last thing I would tell myself is not to spend money on things that aren't important and use it on things you need like food because money isn't unlimited.

Knowing what I know now, I would tell myself that college is way harder then is seems! Not only is the work load more difficult than High School, but the financial problems are something that i have never had to deal with and i need to be more prepared for, starting with applying for scholarships in High School. Family is your number one support and apperciate them now while you still live at home!

"Katie - I know Chester seems like a cute, quaint school. You will love your freshman year, but you'll be caught up in a lot of drama with men. You promised yourself not to get involved with relationships - you break that promise. But you know what? It's okay. That's life. You live and you learn. But in the end, things turn out okay. You meet someone wonderful. Don't let your fear stop you from living life and learning from your mistakes. After freshman year, things get tough. Friends move away, you're left alone. The school doesn't seem so perfect anymore. You will notice a lot of it's faults. But, despite it all, you enjoy your classes. Your teachers are awesome. Even the ones you've only had once - they won't forget you. You are important. You are human, not a number. You won't get that anywhere else. So, unless the faults effect you, ignore them. Be strong - I know you are. Stand up for yourself and what you believe in and enjoy this chance to further your education doing what you love to do. In the end, it will be worth it."

I would tell myself to look everywhere and explore every possibility. Don't confine yourself to a price range or a location; define the school by what makes you comfortable, what makes you fall in love. Don't become overwhelmed because it all turns out ok. Also, don't take advice from time travelers.

They always say that high school will be the best times of your life. What a lie. For me, everyday was a battle. I hated everything about it, and couldn't wait for the four years to just go by so I could get out and never look back. I wish though, I could go back and tell myself to enjoy the times and to enjoy my time there. I let it slip right out of my hands. If I could, knowing what college is like, and having transitioned, I would tell myself to slow down, enjoy the little moments. To make the most out of everything. Life flies by, there isn't anything we can do about it. But I wish now, that I had valued the times when I was in high school.

College has been a lot of fun socially and it has been a challenge for me academid wise. If theres one thing I haved learned as a college student so far, enjoy the ride while it lasts because you can go to college only once in your lifetime. Push yourself to become someone rather than a number; your teachers will see you as someone when you put your academics first seeing you truly care about your education. Expand your social circle and be yourself - fun and energetic and your new friends can look up to you as someone whom they can trust. I would tell my high school self to enjoy the ride, because going to college as so much meaning to being an adult, and it makes you a better person than not going. Make the experience worthwile before it falls out of your hands.

I would give my high school senior self the advice of filling out more scholarships, and submitting the FAFSA earlier. Scholarships can really ease the burden on your financial stresses during college. I would tell my high school self that scholarships will help me to get on track, and make transition easier because I'll know that I'm working hard, and recieving money in scholarships that I won't have to pay back when I graduate college.

Dear me,Although you may not believe any of this, you have a right to know. I have traveled back from the future where you have spent your college years at Chester College of New England. CCNE is a great school, it has everything you want, a green campus, great community of people who are friendly and helpful, the student teacher ratio is small but that is great because getting attention for your work is important. However, you do not have a car and it will come in handy when you need to buy things off campus. The school store is great but it does not carry everything. Something else you should do before you go off to CCNE, please take the time to get a credit card, it will be useful. Don’t worry about small people who tell you that you can’t be a writer; this school will encourage you and help you to become the best writer you can be. Failure is a guarantee if you do not try. Sincerely, me

Alyson

College was a very expensive investment, however had I not invested in my Bachelor's degree I wouldn't have the opportunities available to me that I have now.

I have gained a lot of attending Chester Colllege that will last me a life time. I have grown artisticly, profesionaly, personaly but most importantly I have become more comfortable with who I am. I love Chester College because all of the teacher takes each studentss opinion in to consideration. The teachers allow us to creat meaningful artwork that comes from the heart. They give us excellent feedback on our projects in order for us to improve.

Forget about the stress of high school. It all gets better and you'll be around people just like you. Write what you really want to right and fuck what everyone else thinks about it. Be surreal and yourself because Chester is awesome and people will actually understand your poetry. Keep looking forward and reach that goal.
