What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Parker

People say we're dorky, have the highest suicide rate, good food

Cecilia

I recently read in a college guide that Cornell boys are more attractive than Cornell girls. They seem equally big-headed to me.

Skylar

Well, there are a lot of stereotypes within the Cornell community. First, all the asians are engineers and they sleep in duffield hall. The architects are a bunch of freaks who live in sweatshop (the building that looks like a sweatshop) and are emo and wear all black. If you are in arts and sciences, you are good at drawing. All the asians live in HILC. All the Latinos live in the LLC. All the blacks live in Ujamma.

Nora

Everyone knows about the gorges and thinks we jump into them. We're known for being pretty competitive and high-stress. (How many Cornellians does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Six: one to change the bulb and five to crack under the pressure) I guess we're the Ivy "Party" school. Our SAT scores are supposedly the lowest in the League. Also we have the best legs. And the fiercest hockey fans.

MJ

Culturally divided. Ruled by Greek systems. Overly elitist upper middle class yuppie mongers. Fun. Academically overworked for no apparent reason. Hottest Ivy.

Shelby

Cornell is the easiest Ivy to get into and the hardest to stay in. Ithaca is COLD!

Ryan

I think the biggest stereotype is that only rich, white snobby kids go here.

Maurice

I think a very big one is preprofessionalism. A lot of people think Cornell students only care about their major and how it will land them a well-paying job. They care more about technical, useful knowledge than about the humanities and classes deemed "not serious." This leads to the accusation that Cornell is apolitical, or at least less politically charged than other similar schools. It also leads to the accusation that Cornell kids are dorky and jocky, but not artsy.

Jane

Depressed, overacheiving, overworked.

Misha

All Cornell students are nerds.

Sara

Cornell students are all dorks. Cornell students are liberal hippies. Cornell students are all upperclass preps. Cornell is a farm. Cornell engineers are socially awkward. Hotelies don't ever do any work. Archies are really weird and you never see them leave Rand Hall. Sorority girls are all dumb blondes. Cornell is the lowest Ivy League school.

julie

guys are rich, assholes who think too much about themselves girls are snobby, jappy girls who think too much about themselves. everyone is from long island. then there are all the nerds and geeks and weirdos.

Adam

We are smart. There are a lot of Asians and people from Long Island and Westchester. We are the hottest Ivy League school.

Alice

Cornell students are stereotyped as being stressed out and suicidal. People like to make fun of the fact that Cornellians jump off the gorge to kill themselves when they can't handle the work and pressure. Cornellians are also seen as being hyper-competitive; they will sabotage other students to get an A. Cornellians are also thought of as being the "dumbest" students in the Ivy League.

Anna

Ultra competitive and have a Harvard/Penn/Princeton/Other ivy complex.

Evan

Typical stereotypes usually refer to the Ivy League status of the school: bunch of nerds, no life, snooty, rich, preppy, etc.

Ti

"easiest Ivy to get into, hardest to stay in" no one stops working so much stress you'll want to kill yourself nothing to do in Ithaca "Hotelies" are dumb

Cameron

Stereotypes about Cornell and Cornell students include: 1. The school is in the middle of nowhere 2. It's the easiest Ivy to get into 3. Life is all about studying, no one has fun 4. Cornell is a suicide school 5. The weather in Ithaca is horrible 6. Cornell students are unfriendly 7. Half of Cornell isn't even run by Cornell - it's run by SUNY.

Alexandria

Many people think that Cornell is a place for kids who have got rejected by Harvard. Also, it's said that Cornellians are a little suicidal, driven by an insane amount of workload. The horrifying jumping off the Thurston Bridge story really paints Cornell as a tough university, "easy to get in yet hard to get out." Cornell is also well-known for being a party school with lots of frat houses on West Campus.
