Definitely visiting the campus to see what kind of vibe you pick up from the school, its students and the faculty. College is not only about going to classes and then going home, be integrated in your school! If you like french, join the french club, if your passion is writing, join the school newspaper. Take a class in photography just to do it. Enjoy all the resources your school has to offer to make the most out of your experience. Also use the surrounding neighborhood, which will be one of your greatest resources as far as culture, and experience are at your fingertips, use that too! Make sure you get the most out of your college experience to create joyful memories for years to come.

Make sure that you search thoroughly through college that offer your major and have certain characteristics that you're searching for; like city or rural, Division I sports or Division III, very high esteem or not known at all. Don't be discouraged by the prestige of any school. If it exists, there's always a possibility to be accepted. Once your acceptance letters are in, choose that was highest on your list of the schools you most wanted to attend. Once you're there, don't overwork yourself with many classes and make sure you find time to relax and enjoy yourself wherever you are but remember that you're there to make a better future for yourself.

My advice to parents is to go to the school that your child has chosen and take a tour. Speak to the administrators at the college and have your children speak to the students in the college. By doing this your child will be able to know if this is the kind of college he or she would want to go to . Also make sure that your child can go to and from college back home because travelling can be an issue to some individuals and cause concerns for a parent . For making the most of the college experience I would have to say that it is best to try to make as many friends as possible. Join clubs and sports activities and get involved. Also get to know and interact with your professors. For no wgood luck and hope my advice has helped .

Research every facet of the college experience. Study areas, clubs, club spaces, research facilities, tech support, housing options, Culinary diversity, student demographic, courses offered etc. leave no stone unturned. I will pay off in the end

Find a school in a city that you will enjoy the most. Find a school that has your major or has majors that interest you, that way you have options if you decide to change your mind. Get out and far away from the city you grew up in. Start from scratch if possible. Money should not matter when choosing a school, but unfortunatley with the economy we have today and the price on schools today money does come into play. That is why I am not going at the school I want to be.

Esthephany

The best advice that I can give to a student when finding the right college he/she should have a idea of what his/her major is going to be before entering to college this way there will be no waste of time, since there are colleges or universities that offered different majors.

Debbie

I encourage all parents and students to visit the schools they apply to both as a known visitor and a surprise visitor. I belive getting a chance to expreience the school before you enroll will help you make a clearer decision on what school is best for you. It is also important for the parents and student to discuss before enrollment their financial plans for paying for college. Plan for emeregencyies like late loans, grants, or scholarships. This way if anything happens, the student will still be able to register for the classses they want on time. Also, make sure to look for a campus that's fun. Make sure it is easy for you to find something productive to do. I know many students who complain their campuses are boring. If you are able to have fun on campus, you will enjoy your school ezpereince better and you will be more motivated to stay in school.

Roberto

For the students just be wise about which school you pick. Dont just pick a school because of its name do some research on the school and really find out what is all about. There are many school out there where you can recieve a great education for a very low tution and City College of New York is one of them with a lot of good majors. Also its the most diverse school in the USA so you will meet people from all over the world here.

Estefani

Go view the campus meet the people behind the desks and talk to a proffessor, messuare where you wanna go and get there.

As a college student that has already attended two different colleges, and hopefully transferring to a third university in the Fall of 2009, I would recommend that they first think about the objectives behind the particular university, visiting the university on a regular day and not only on open house days, and to consider what the prospective student wants from a university. First, one should get as much information on the university whether it be from the official website, respectable college rating sources, and most importantly from students that attend the university. If the university is not adequate to fulfill your academic goals and personal growth, then search for a different university that is more suitable. Once having found a compatible university, visit the campus to verify that your impressions of the university are accurate and not a false illusion. During this visit one should talk to many students and professors and discuss their experiences at the school, both the negative and positive aspects. If the university has passed the standards and the student gets accepted, then the student should do all he/she can do to get involved academically and socially within the school to develop as a whole.

When I started high school, my teachers advised me that I should visit the college before I pick it. I didn?t quite understand the message then, however, four years later, I understood it. I knew I wanted to study engineering since I was strong in math and physics and also grew up working in construction. So it was only a decision between a few engineering schools for me. I decided to visit the schools and speak to the faculty, staff and students. I got many different perspectives from different people about each school. Finally, I chose City College because of the people there and also for the future if offers. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here since. I have enjoyed outside of classroom education by getting involved in student clubs that offers hands on work as well as making friends and socializing with them. I have enjoyed great relationships with my professors which is very beneficial when it comes to recommendations for scholarships and/or jobs. Your college life can be the best years of your life if you choose the right environment for yourself and take advantage of the opportunities that are available.

For the students: Do not choose a school your parents want you to go to. Attend a school YOU want to attend and be a part of. Somewhere you would feel comfortable and relaxed. A place that offers what you are looking for academically, financially, socially, etc. Most importantly, find a school that offers various majors and courses. Many people believe they know what they want to be when they are in high school but a lot of things change when you're in college so don't go to a school that is strict on a few majors only unless you are one billion percent sure that is what you want. As for the parents: Try to listen to your kids, don't be stubborn and think of only what is "right" for your child. Often students tend to go to the school their parents wanted or because they felt bad going away from homr and regret not going for what they wanted. So be open to opinions from your children, after all it is THEIR future.

Christine

The advice I would give to parents and/or students about finding the right college and making the most of the college experience is to pick the college the student is comfortable at because most likely the student will be at the school for four years. In order to find the right college make a list about the type of college you will like such as do you want a big or small college, a religious based college or diverse college, does the college have a dormitory or affordable off-campus housing, questions like these will help the parent or child find the right college. In order to make the most of the college experience join clubs,fraternities/sororities that interest the student and make friends that have the same vlaue and interest as the student.

Yan

DO what you think is right and don't listen to anyone make your own decsions

Stephany

make sure you will be happy

Angela

The advice I would give it to go away to college if you can. I would also advise that students pick a school that offers majors in the areas you are interested in. I started in a school that did not have the major I was interested in so I had to transfer to another school and because of this I will have to spend more time taking undergraduate classes to finish this major.

Liha

Be open minded to different options, schedule college visits, speak to current students, spend time in the area and make sure that the school has everything that interests you academically and socially.

Joanne

I would tell the parents to not force their views upon their child. Often times the child end up taking up a major that they are highly dissatisfied with and when it comes their junior year in college want to change majors. To the students, I'll tell them to just learn time management and be responsible. Yes, you can party but responsibly, know your limits, what you can and cannot do, and know how to juggle your school work with a social life. I would also suggest to stay strong because often times you are encountered with your high school friends having more fun than you are but always think about the light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, you may be missing out on some parties but the reason you're going to college is for a better and brighter future.

Hui

It takes time. Finding the right college takes lots of time and preparation; fitting into the right college also takes lots of time and heart. Don't rush it! Enjoy the experience.

Elizabeth

Stay focused and get involved with extra cirricular activities in school to make the necessary connections for when you graduate.

Lisa

Go with the school where you feel most comfortable and feel like you will be able to do your best and put your all into graduating with a degree.

Kit

It is a good idea to live independently, either off campus or in a dorm. Further, before making a decision on what college you would like to attend, always visit the campus first.

Cynthia

Visit the campus to see if you can see yourself there. Be realistic.

Estefani

Go to the campus and see how you feel in it. Look at its diversity beyond and sit down in the middle of the campus walk around it and see how it feels!

My advice for parents will be to please let there children major on what they would like to major in and let them follow there kids passion of becoming a Art teacher, Psychologist or a Dentist. Also help them find a college and be supportive. MY advice for students will be follow your dreams, dont give up, ask for help when you need it , study hard and dont forget to apply for Finalcial Aid.
