Florida International University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Joceny

The worst thing about my school would probably be the area that the school is located . The school is in a highly Hispanic area. While this is not bad, it is bad if you do not speak any Spanish. This does not seem to be all too bad if one knows basic Spanish but it is a problem because it is hard for the minority of students at the school to effectively communicate with the local society.

Glory

FIU is a great school where I can recieve a great education, but I do wish that more degree programs were available such as the culinary arts and more education teaching programs besides physical fitness and elementary education.

Sandra

The worst things about my school is the sometime lack of care for the students, even though Administration will always quickly declare that every decision is made with the students' best interest in mind. For instance lack of class availability which means graduation drifts further and further away for some. Also the financial aid office at the main campus should seriously consider doing monthly orientations to train their employees because it is likely to walk in get an answer to an inquiry and then return to only find out that you have been told the wrong thing!

Anet

Maybe the worst thing is standing in line to pay for classes; my school doesn?t accept Visa Card online so standing in line is really long and time consuming. Also the online course fee is ridiculously expensive.

Ashley

Nothing. FIU has everything a student needs. They have the study areas, academic advising, financial advising, tutors, student living, student centers, cafeteria, and much more. I think any student who is interested in attending Florida International University will be very satisfied with the services and things they have to offer.

Nicholas

Too bureaucratic. It's a hassle to resolve any issue.

natalie

based on sorority or fraternities

Alexandra

Conservative student body.

Anna

The sheer amount of pretense. Everything is done for convenience and most people, including faculty, are here for convenience. And yes, per a previous question, financial aid is stingy and unhelpful and does not have the student's interest in mind or heart, that is for sure!

Annessa

For international students, the tuition fees is realllllllllllly high. And finding financial aid to help you is really hard. But you must persist! :~)

Giselle

The worst thing is the lack of effective guidance. There is no easy way to find out what classes you need to take or what options are available to you in the event you've failed one or missed something. It is difficult to plan for the coming semesters when it is so hard to find out which class you need to take and then that class isn't even offered in the semester when you need it.

Renee

The worst thing about FIU is the amount of large classrooms that it has. Students who have difficulty with a subject tend to be left behind when in a class of 185 students.

Linnette

There are too many students and the administration is the worst because they give you the runaround for everything and do not know what they are talking about. Also, really difficult to register for classes.

Adriana

I think that the worst thing about my school is that it is so large that it sometimes can seem so impersonal. I came from a small catholic school and it was a culture shock for me to experience a large academic community. I think sometimes that it is too large and there are too many people.

caleb

i don't think there's anything bad abot my school

Jasmine

Parking

Elkin

The classes are sometimes too big and the classrooms need a makeover. Also, the financial aid office should be more helpful. My personal experience has made it almost impossible for me to get financial aid. They should also provide more parking spaces since it is mostly a commuter school. FIU should also think about enlarging it's southern campus to accomodate more buildings, widen it's streets, and create a greener environment on the outskirsts of campus for outdoor recreation. It is very overcrowded.

DennisHackett

Budget cuts. Class availability.

Slobodan

The worst thing about my school is the fact that the main campus is more than 20 miles away from my house; commuting on the turnpike can be a real drag.

Mildred

Financial Aid Office and the people who work there who seem not to care about anyone; this is especially frustrating because at least 70{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the students at this school are recepients of scholarships and financial aid.

Keira

Parking! My school is a commuter school and I drive 45 minutes to get there. When I get to school I spend another 30 minutes trying to find a spot to park in.

Mike

parking because there isnt anough parking space

Mario

The worst thing about my school is the apathy and laziness with which students approach their school and the work.

jessica

parking. There isnt enough

Hali

The classes I need are always full by the time I am allowed to register, or they are not offered that semester.

Tina

Due to the current state of the economy, budget cuts have severely affected the school. Many of the majors have had to cut back on classes, which makes it slightly stressful and difficult to pick up classes in your major to graduate on time.

Alexandra

Advising, because they're not organized theyfore they lack efficiency and the knowledge of what is best for you to complete your degree on time.

Brandy

The faculty do not care for the students. Financial aid does not award enough for students in middle class. This school is very unorganized and the population is mostly hispanic so you have to learn spanish to even try to understand most of the faculty and staff. On campus housing is ridiculous. One of the top things I hate here are the budget cuts. I am a nursing undergrad and now because of the budget cuts it is almost impossible to get into the program which means I will have to apply to other schools for my bachelor's degree.

Andrea

The worst thing about my school is the fact of having to classes that dont have anything to do with your major. These are only taken to receive enough credits to graduate. I would rather have the choice of taken the same amount of credits but ones that are specificly related to my major.

Nicole

The worst thing about Florida International Univerisity is the schedule, atleast for the School of Business. Many of the classes are offered only at night, or online, and jsut once a week. Who wants to sit through a 3 hour class? Not me. This is the main difficulty I have had with this school, but there is always a way to work around it.

Jenniffer

It takes really long to get financial aid. There is always a problem with Financial aid every year.

Kathleen

The worst thing about my school is the great diversity of the teachers being that sometimes the students aren't able to understand what they teach due to language barrier.

Ricardo

Not focused on sports. Some lack of school spirit

Heather

The teachers sometimes have a hard time communicating with the students.

Favad

Not a real college experience compared to other schools, since this school is a commuter school.

Precious

the worst thing i consider about my school are the rates fro living on cmapus

sergio

the distance to the school.

Diana

Academic advisors are very limited during the beginning of semester.

Tamella

The worst thing about this school is that the administration are not helpful, they do not care and they are very rude when you are asking for help.

Patrick

The fact that my school has a really bad organizational structure and knowledge base about academic programs and tracks available.

MARYA

The worst thing about my school is the amount of time it takes to find parking. It can go from five to 45 minutes!

Ana

The way the budget is distributed. I think that there isn't enough funds for my department since it isn't as big as business. I think it was a waste of time for the school to create a school of medicine and then cut other majors out. Also, there isn't enough oppurtunities to study abroad or programs to encourage interaction and experience in fields.

John

qualifications to get in are too low. The school spirit is too low. The campus is too small. The teachers have bad accents, especially the math professors.

Angelica

There seems to be a lack of school spirit as evidenced by students wearing other college emblems on their clothing.

Alvaro

Not being able to get into the courses you want to get in, because then you have to start all over and sometimes you have to go back to the advisor. I think the more years you have there the easier it should get, you should have priority over new ones.
