What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Tiara

I wish that before coming to this school I had known myself. When I first attended this school I was not prepared to be on my own, and I was not sure about what I wanted to study. I was not sure about who I was or what type of classes and environment were best for me.

Kristen

The orientation at this school was pretty good at informing me of the things I needed to know. Although upon entering my freshman year I wish I had known that in Miami you need a car. I grew up in Philadelphia where public transportation is a lot better than in Miami.

How the university officials main concerns are only with those who major in law, medicine and business

i wish i had known that FIU was primarily a commuter school and what that really means. i have never felt involved on campus and i think that's one of the reason's i've had such a hard time making friends here. the good news is that i'm transfering for next semester. i'm looking at two schools and have already been accepted to one of them. they both have low commuter student percentages and i'm going to live in the dorms which i think will significantly improve my overall college experience satisfaction.

Balancing fun and studying does make you happy in the end. Knowing all the different classes that are offered every semester without being advised.

Precious

I wish I had known that FIU did not offer a good program for the Creative Advertising track and that no graphic design is taught. Also, the fact that class availability is limited and students almost never graduate on time due to poor communication from advisors. When students voice complaints, nothing gets resolved.

Maria

I really like my school. It's not perfect, but neither am I. I knew everything i needed to know about my school before i registered, and I decided to deal with it. and so I do, and it's not bad at all. I am happy and feel lucky to be a student at FIU.

Well, to begin with my intended major. I was undecided Fall term of '07, but as soon as I decided what I wanted to do, the Academic Directior of the school of nursing advised me on wht I neede to do and now I'm on th right track and not falling behind on anything. In addition to knowing my major, I would as would have like to have known how interactive this school really is. There is always something happening at FIU. ALWAYS!

Gabriela

I wish I could have known how hard classes were, as opposed to the misconception that this school lacks in academic excellence.
