The worst thing about George Mason would have to be the size of the technical sciences programs (Physics, Chemistry, Engineering). As a Chemistry major, I crave lots of lab time and exciting resources that Mason simply can't offer, as they are not a technical school. Since Mason prides itself on being a diverse school, it can't devote the resources to going in depth in every field that it is involved in. Economics at Mason is wonderful, the Biology and Nursing programs are stellar, but I would love to see some growth in engineering and technical majors.

The night life on campus is non existent. You have to go off campus to do anything other than studying.

The worst thing about George Mason is the maturity level of the freshman. From what I have seen many still act as if drama is needed in their lives. Many flock to the idea that fraturnity parties are what college is about and because of it are failing classes and having to drop out of school. Our frat houses are off campus, thus making it a higher risk of drunk driving, which the college should look into attempting to aquire a frat row in Fairfax City for safety purposes.

I believe the worst part about George Mason University is the honors college general education requirements. I personally feel that I have learned nothing in the classes and are really just of waste of time. They are frustrating and the classes I have taken have not been taught by competant professors.

I hate to say bad things about Mason, but I think the litter on campus is probably the worst problem. I think when parents, perspective students and visitors come to Mason, they look around at the trash and think we do not care about our school. That is not true, but some people may not know that if they judge us by the food wrappers, cups and other refuse scattered far and wide. Besides hurting the image of the school, the assorted junk also negatively affects campus wildlife, which I think is sad.

The food is terrible

I don?t think it would be possible for me to say anything negative about George Mason University. It has a prestigious level of learning and there is a place for every person to fit in because of it?s diverse student body and different organizations. There are so many things that I love about this school and my experience here has been absolutely amazing. I feel that anyone that visit?s the campus would be able to say the same for it contains a vast number of things that would make their experience very enjoyable.

It's really hard to get on-campus housing and the area that the school is in is pretty expensive, especially for a college student. This makes the whole financial aspect of school that much more difficult, because not only do I have to worry about tuition and books but now I have to figure out how to pay rent and utilities that are more expensive then a lot of people's mortgage payments.

The worst thing about George Mason University (GMU) is that it doesn't have a football team. Other than that, the only problem that I ever had at GMU as an undergraduate was with the parking. Fortunately, when I returned for my graduate program, they had built two parking garages. They are currently building additional parking so that may solve that problem. Another problem that concerned others was the lack of student housing. I understand that they are opening several new housing areas in the near future. I believe GMU is responding to their student's needs.

There really isn't anything bad about George Mason. At least nothing on top of my head. So far my experience at Mason has been good and enjoyable. If there is one thing though, its raising the tuition fee each year. That would be the worst thing about my school but that's for every school.

The worst thing about George Mason University is how not all of the classes you need are available. This is due to the classes being in high demand and other students filling in the slots.

Mason does not have a traditional Greek Row. I believe it lacks the ideal Greek Life experience that other schools have.

Lack of enough housing -- a sitution I have dealt with on more than one occasion. They are in the progress of fixing this though. Parking is another congested aspect of the Fairfax campus.

The degree i chose isnt as in depth as i thought it would be, so im looking at schools that are soley based about my degree

The campus doesn't feel "home-y" at all. There's not much to do on the campus, other than Frat Parties and Ikes (the on campus late night diner). If that's not your scene, you have to reach out and search to find clubs that you are interested in and that work to your schedule.

The campus can be quite large and it can be hard to get to know everyone on campus because of the size of the campus.

The worst thing about this school is that there is nothing to do on the weekends. The movies they provide is great, but other than that, I am completely bored unless I were to go to an alcoholic party. I do not want to attend these on a regular basis, so sometimes I am just stuck in my room.

Nothing. So far, everything has really been great. If there's one thing, the restaurant choices that the school has made is really weird and not to my tastes.

George Mason started off as more of a commuter college but this is now drastically changing. We are the #3 largest residential university in Virginia and Mason has added TONS of new residential buildings, gyms, and food places. Because the campus life is growing-a lot of people have a stigma around there being none. I think that Mason is a great school and I really love it-but you just have to decide if it's the place for you.

The worst thing about George Mason is the amount of commuters attend the university. Due to the decreased amount of students actually living on campus, the weekends tend to have very little action and appeal because those that commute are not around on the weekends. However, with Washington DC close by even bored students that live on campus have something to do on the weekends.

The lack of weekend activities can be a let down but only if you don't go out and meet people.

Parking is the worst thing about George Mason because there are so many commuter students. There is also a lot of building going on around campus as well and this takes away from a lot of parking spaces. However, they just started building a new parking garage

Social life is the worst part. The weekends are dead and for the most part everyone goes home and the food places are all closed. No one wants to be on campus during the weekends. There are few sober dancing parties unless you want to go get drunk. Drinking parties are not hard to find.

Honestly, the worst thing about my school is the cost. Housing prices are pretty expensive, particularly because land is very expensive in the Washington D.C. area. The newest housing on our campus is outrageously expensive. Yes- they still find students to pay the cost, but it's just really hard on my family, personally, financially speaking. Also, there is a lot of construction going on to expand on our campus- resulting in higher costs of parking & random little things.

TOO Much grouping with greek //cliques.. need close college off campus housing to make more collge atmosphere not commuter school image there is none now

What bothers me about George Mason is that it is misunderstodd in its reputation, especially in Virginia. People don't look at it as being very distinguished, but I have learn so much from going to school here. They have amazing leadership programs, they put a very strong emphasis on growth and they encourage students to explore outside of the classroom as well as in it. I wish people would stop calling it a back-up school and a commuter college, because it is so much better than that.

Expensive!

The wost thing about this school is that there is a large portion of unmotivated students. Some students and locals equate GMU to a community college because many attendees are commuter-students that live locally. There are many students that lack vision, direction, and purpose and for them a degree is just a box to check. More communters also retract from a sense of school community on campus and it is always "dead" on weekends.

The size, sometimes you can feel lost.

The worst thing about the school is that there are a lot of students so parking close to buildings is hard to find. Of course when there's snow or when it's freezing outside the walk feels longer, but that would be my only complaint.

The worst thing about George Mason University is the terrain and lack of space. We are constantly expanding and admitting more students than our university can cater to effectively. When we went to the Final Four a couple of years back, enrollment boomed. The construction and crowded space on campus makes it a little less aesthetically pleasing and pleasant to be here.

I think the worst thing is that we do not have a football team so there is not as much school spirit as there could be because of this. The surrounding city around us is refusing to let us build a stadium which, in my opinion would truly help our school to grow and would cause more students to want to attend our university.

I think the worst thing about Mason is the "commuter school" reputation. The campus, although surrounded by a large suburban area, has the feel of a small town campus. Many high school students overlook George Mason for fear that they won't have a normal college experience. The number of people that actually go to Mason sometimes scares people. I have lived on campus for a year and a half and I can tell you that even though you see somebody new everyday, the friends you make on campus will always be around.

It is very hard to make friends as well as having a social life because at Mason you are so concerned with academics more than your social life. Mason is very diverse as well as very competetive with internships, scholarships and graduate jobs because there is a large number of us working on the same degree. For me it hard to put myself out there and show everyone the type of person that I am because I'm very shy and basically Mason is not in my comfront zone.

The worst thing about George Mason is probably the parking. You have to park very far away from the center of Campus and parking is always very hard to find, and you pay a lot for it.

Inconsideration for commuters. Very little parking and few events off campus.

If I was to choose the worst thing about George Mason, it would be the fact that it is a commuter school. This means that there are many adults taking evening classes and that the campus is absolutely stark on the weekends.

The dorms; sometimes they can be dirty and ill managed. People can often be loud, but its not as bad as other schools.

As much diversity that exists on George Mason's campus, most of the students are very inclusive to their own racial and cultural groups. The incoming freshman and transfer students see the diversity that's promised by college-guides and campus representatives, but it's hard to acquire knowledge of someone else's culture.

The worst thing about my school is that there is absolutely nothing to do on the weekends and that it's almost impossible to find a club to join other than a sorority/fraternity

The worst thing about my school is the social aspect. Too many students rely on image and social ranking, which tend to make the school more about social experience than about academics. Many students seem to join fraternities and soroities for the popularity rather than the volunteer/charity part. I feel this is the worst part because it takes away from the educational aspect of why we are all at college. True, becoming social in college is important, but it is more important that we realize that we are here to learn and grow.

I think I can mention about the quality of the food here which is not as good as it is supposed to be. Other than that I have not found anything bad about this school yet.

The food. George Mason University is a diverse school and they take pride in their diversity. In the past year, they have expanded their food options to include a wider audience. However, in trying to appeal to more students, Mason has lost their focus in quality of food. Compared to other colleges, George Mason University's food is not that good. The food is either undercooked or overcooked and the food has a cheap quality to it.

The parking situation. The school keeps tearing down parking lots to build more housing and they keep increasing the size of the student body, but aren't making adequate parking arrangements in the meantime.
