Georgia Institute of Technology-Main Campus Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Christopher

The worst thing about this school also makes it the best thing about this school: academics. Tech is a very competitive school as far as academics are considered. The professors at Tech will push you to your limits, and make you work harder than you ever thought you could work. Yet at the same time, the amount of work you put in here at Tech will pay you back several times over once you become a Georgia Tech graduate.

Ryan

The worst thing about the school is the male to female ratio. If you are a guy, don't plan to find a girl here unless you bring one with you or you are the type of guy that already has that part of life under control. If you are a girl, I guess this would be good for you, but this could be kind of bad if you aren't single. The school says the male to female ratio is getting a little better but when you go to class here, you would think otherwise.

Corwin

The worst thing would probably have to be that that it seems some of the genious professors can't teach. Probably because they are mostly concerned with their research.

Andrea

The attitude that students have regarding their work load and the wide concensus that taking the minimum number of credits for 5 years is worthwhile.

Cari

The work load is tremeandous. Georgia Tech expects A LOT from students. There is an extremely rigorous course load involved, and I would consider it a very high-stress environment.

Justin

The best part about Georgia Tech is also the worst part about the school. It is very challenging academically. As a student, you have to remain focus on academics or they can get away quick. Sometimes I will end up having 3 or 4 test in a week. Those weeks are the hardest, because each class is important so you are try to study as much as possible. Usually you get a break after a test, but when you have 3 or 4 in a week, it grinds on you mentally.

Tanuja

I think the classes are a little too difficult to actually learn and keep in your brain. Most students tend to learn things the day of class and then end up forgetting. Most students also end up cramming too much information right before the test.

Caitlin

The work load and the teachers not always being able to speak english and how unfriendly a lot of the studdents are.

rachel

The students are so anti social. Most students idea of fun is playing video games. Most students do not work, their parents pay for them so they do not appreciate the value of money.

Jennifer

The worst thing about this school is there is only ten minutes between classes ending and then next scheduled one beginning. With a very large campus and unreliable shuttle system, getting to the next classroom can be difficult.

Jill

The only thing about my school that I would like to change are the variety of classes offered. We are an engineering school, which means our graduates will need to pitch ideas someday, probably, and we don't even offer Public Speaking. Also, the rigors of Tech would be a lot less stressful if we offered some art classes, more options to take a break from all the science and engineering. So, a better variety of classes offered would be my one critique.

Nicolas

I would consider the social life the worst thing about this school because I haven't been able to find a girl to be with and that causes me to feel lonely.

Nick

cost of out-of-state tuition, amount of time spent studying

Raissa

It's very challenging and as such, the "college experience" here tends to be a little bit diffferent than what most students expect it to be coming in from hs.

Howard

Pressure to study

COREY

STRESS OF THE TEST

Michelle

I don't know if I would say it's the "worst" thing, but what I dislike the most is the lack of minority students that contribute to the school population.

Kella

The accepted 5-years-to-get-your-bachelor's curse. It is very common to meet 5th and 6th year undergrads--I love college but I don't think it should drag out so long

Michelle

All of the bindge drinking because of the high pressure levels.

Caryn

The worst thing about this school is a lot of people think they're geniuses.. They think that the only intelligent people in this world are males who are great at engineering. I'm a liberal arts major, so people look down on me a lot since I'm a girl and I don't like math and science. They don't realize that just because I don't like working with numbers doesn't mean I'm not really smart, too. It's horribly annoying to be judged for doing something different than the majority of other people here.

Mary

The campus is very spread out. Sometimes it takes 15-20 minutes to walk from one class to the next and at certain times its impossible to get on the bus because its completely full.

Jeffrey

The fact that the professors turn the subjects I like into a lving hell.

June

The workload is a lot, especially come midterm/finals time, when it just seems to be never ending and a lot of the time the professors seem to think the only class that is important to you is that single one. when it [the schoolwork] rained, it poured.

Acelyn-Marie

There is a lot of work to do in all classes, which means a lot of stress.

Patrick

The complaint I hear the most is the lack of relevant teaching in the classroom to what is actually on the test. Many people come out of a test and say "Well I wish he had taught that during class" or something of that nature. I think an easy remedy to this problem is student and faculty engagement in class. Granted are classes are larger than other campuses classes, if the faculty was more engaged in class it would make a difference - the few classes where faculty is already engaged attest to that fact that is helps!

Bryan

The absense of females. Because it makes it difficult to get one. Look of TBS on urban dictionary. Tech Bitch Syndrome. The girls here think they are way hotter than they are because they have no competition.

Chelsea

The worst thing about my school are the actual classes because they're very difficult and I feel like most of the teachers don't really care about whether or not you pass or fail so long as they get their money for research (they teach on the side).
