Kaplan University is a great school for those that are looking to broaden their future, while still maintaining a normal life. The best thing about Kaplan is that they go to such great lengths to make sure that the students get every benefit possible. They offer great programs and even have little perks for your everyday life. I currently take advantage of discounts on shopping, cell phone service, health insurance, and car insurance, with much more available, due to what Kaplan has to offer. I have found an advisor that I absolutely adore. She spent well over an hour with me on the phone talking about my degree plan, my stress about making good grades, tips and pointers about a career path, etc. To me, that is exactly what an advisor should be. She followed up on our conversation with tips that she had received from Professors in my school of learning and the syllabus for my upcoming course. The Academic Advising team changes, obviously, with every school of learning, but so far I have been very pleased.
As far as student complaints, I have only heard one consistent complaint – the financial aid department. I have found that as long as you are keeping up your end of the responsibilities, there is nothing to worry about. Yes, financial aid is a huge hassle for everyone and there is a lot of paperwork to fill out, but what do you expect? Yes, they call you every day when you are past due, but what company doesn’t call you every day when you are past due. All-in-all, the financial aid department at Kaplan is just like any other financial aid department. They are doing the best they can to help you get what you can. They are just a little more thorough than most.
The one thing I will always remember about Kaplan isn’t that I went to a great party, or that I had the coolest dorm roommate, but that I made something of myself while building my professional life as well. I don’t have to put my career on hold while I attend college. I can work towards my goal in both my professional and academic life. I am currently going to get my BS in Paralegal Studies. This gives me the ability to take the years that I am in college, to get the entry-level positions out of the way to where when I graduate I can have both the experience and the knowledge. It is also exciting to dream about the day I get to travel to either Chicago or Miami and walk across the huge, gorgeous stage and accept my diploma. Graduation will not just be a trip down the street with mom and dad. With Kaplan it can turn into a great trip to a new place in celebration of your achievements.
