Make sure you talk to students who currently go there and find out why they like or dislike the college they attend, and make sure the financial aid is reliable ! Price is a huge factor when you go to college as well!

MAKE SURE YOU DO PLENTY OF RESEARCH. GET TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE SCHOOL. DO NOT THINK THAT BECAUSE YOU ARE PAYING A LOT YOU WILL GET THE SAME IN RETURN, SOMETIMES STATE OR COMMUNITY SCHOOLS ARE JUST THE SAME AS ANY OTHER PRIVATE SCHOOL. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU WANT TO DO YET OR WHERE YO WANT TO GO BUT HAVE TO GO TO COLLEGE ENROLL IN A COMUNITY COLLEGE ISNTEAD, YOU'LL BE PAYING LESS MONEY AND STILL GET THE SAME CREDITS YOU WILL AS IF YOU WERE GOING TO A 4 YEAR COLLEGE. AND FINALLY,GO TO ORIENTATION IF YOUR SCHOOL HAS ONE.

Mimi

If you can't find anybody like you, you probably won't be as happy as you could be. Don't compromise.

Jenna

Test the school out first. Some schools allow prospective students to follow current students around for a day or two including to their classes. See how you feel at that school. I went by just numbers, reputations...and I have been miserable here for 3 and a half years. Don't do that to yourself. It's a waste of time.

Jennifer

In order to choose the right college for you, make sure that you do your research! There is nothing more important than learning about the environment you are potentially going to be spending the next four years of your life in. Not only that, but VISIT the schools. There is no better way of getting a sense of it the campus is for you than through a visit. Find the place that fits who you are and who you want to become. College is about planning for the future as well as having fun in the present; find a school that makes you feel comfortable as well as makes you feel inspired to become the person you see yourself being in 10 or 20 years.

Cari

pick from your heart, you have to love the school you will be going to, becasue it will be your home away from home for 4 years of your life.

Amanda

When it comes to finding the right college for a child, the parent must think about what makes their child happy. It may be hard for parents to learn that their child wants to go to a school on the other side of the country, but if it is what's best for their child or will make him/her happy, they must try to let go. Parents need to understand that they will not be saying goodbye to their child forever, just for a few months. Their chil's academic success is more important that the distance between them for the semester. When it comes to finding the right school for themselves, students must stay focused and remeber why they are going to college. If they alreayd know what they want to study, then they should look for schools that offer programs that will benefit their education and future aspirations.

Joanna

Don't choose a college based only on it's acedemic reputation. You may enjoy being able to say you go to a certain school, but the fact of the matter is once you move into your dorm room and attend classes with your fellow students, you better like your new community. Otherwise, you will be in for four unhappy years and its just not worth it. There is much more to a college or university then it's acedemic ranking. Its better to enjoy your college experience even if it means being at a less prestigious institution.

Rachel

Look for a school that you as a student will feel comfortable in. Research, inquire of other students currently attending that school for their experiences on campus. If commuter, ask commuters etc. This will allow you to get a feel for the college experience at that particular school If you are not happy at the college you choose, you will probably not succeed. choose wisely. Once in school experience everything about school life. Join clubs, go to school sporting, cultural events. Study hard but have fun!!

Taleb

Look for the student diversity, clubs/organizations, and the academics that are offered.

Sade

Please visit the school. Spend time there on a regular day rather when the campus does not have activities going on.

David

If your son or daughter is looking for a small liberal arts college, do not decide before at least visiting Manhattanville College.

Lauren

I think that a student has to sit down with his or her parents and discuss what they actually want to do with their lives because parents and other family members can be extremely insightful. Students should think long and hard about what they want in a college, but sometimes you cannot judge a book by it's cover. Students should to go to a variety of colleges and see what the atmosphere is like. However, don't go during an open house because everything is manufactured to make the school seem more appealing. Go on an "off-day" where the school is at it's most "casual" setting. Bring parents along because parents will notice things that students will often miss. Ask questions and set up interviews to show your interest in a school, especially after you have applied.

Brian

The most important thing is to visit the college and get an idea of the student life there. Go somewhere where you feel you will be comfortable with other students on the campus and where you feel you can achieve a lot academically. Don't be afraid to talk to the professors when you visit as they will most likely be ecstatic that a student is interested in coming to them. Also, I'm a big advocated of NOT applying early decision. It doesn't help you THAT much and it's definitely interested to see the variety of institutions you can get accepted to. You may regret, in the future, having only applied to one place and not knowing where else you could have gotten in. Finally, most colleges teach you exactly the same things in many of the same ways in their classrooms. It's not the end of the world if you end up somewhere you didn't expect to be going. Just make the best of it, meet life-long friends, and have a great time!

Daniel

Really listen to the students, and not the ones that give you the tour. Find random students and ask them what they really think, dont let them think they have to sell you bull.

David

Choose that school that just feels like it fits. You'll know it when you visit if you can see yourself there. Go there no matter what!

Serena

Make sure you get to see the school environment to make sure it is a perfect fit for you and also get involved in campus, where you are inclined to meet people with the same interest as you.

Allie

Get in touch with students who go to the school and find out their personal opinions on it. You will make whatever school you go to your own, when you have a group of friends it won't matter what the school is like because you will each make it how you want your college experience to be. There is no absolutely perfect school.

Martina

You can be safe that your children are able to go into this globizalized world.

Rachel

Live on campus, don't commute from home. Get involved with clubs and social events from the start. Do all your work, don't cut corners, and hand everthing in on time. It's easy to fall behind.

Tamara

If you don't have a college fund, financia aid is very important. Also, make sure your future collegiate son or daughters are comfortable with their univeristy or college of choice because it will become your home away from home. Every little bit counts, and there should not be any doubts.
