What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Ashley

I would tell myself to apply to as many scholarships as posible, because even though i can still go to a college without doing so you cannot go where you want. So i would also say, make time to actually look at school options as well, so you will know beforehand exactly where you want to go.

i would give the advice to study hard and stay focused because it is only the end as a senior but the beginning to how successful your life can turn out. Grades and classes do matter as a senior. they open the door to more oportunities to you that students that didnt work hard may have.

The advice I'd give myself is to apply for as many scholarships as I can so I won't have to resort to student loans. Also, if possible, find a way to rent textbooks, considering that you won't even need most of the books later on in life, depending on your major. Persistence is needed when you attend college: there are instances of where you have to be the best that you can be and work efficiently in order to succeed. Always remain on track if you really want that bachelor's degree. Be confident in every single thing you do because optimism is what you're going to need; positive thoughts lead to positive outcomes.

The things I would tell myself if I could go back in time would be: -Don't wait! I waited 5 years after high school to go back to college, and the transition would have been so much easier if I would have went sooner. -Education is important! I would tell myself that in order to have a good dependable job education is the most important and powerful tool. -Believe in yourself! I would tell myself that I can do it! I always wanted to become a nurse, but I didn't have much confidence in myself when I was younger. Now that I am older I know I can become a great nurse if I put my mind to it.

Girl, what do you mean by "life's too good to spend on education"? Education is where it all begins. Take a second look at the option of going into nursing. You will be surprised to discover that it really is what you want to spend your life doing. Your passion for providing care to vulnerable populations is at the very heart of every nurse's job. As you go through nursing school, you will not only learn anatomy, pharmacology and the fundamentals of nursing but also so much about yourself. The drive to reach your educational goal will mold you into an incredible person who is strong and thrives on challenges. At the same time you will develop a devotion for your comunity and a fervor to learn everything medicine has to offer. Science will no longer be a dry subject for you. It will now hold the key to incredible advances and will bring the future into your present. You will make new freindships that will mature and blossom as together you aspire to make a difference in the world through nursing. But all this starts with education. Go on, make it happen!

i would have to tell myself to become better organized. Things in college are only as difficult as you mke them. When you create a time frame for yourself and organize all you have, then everything falls right into place. Many things in college are based on deadlines and you must create a time line accordingly.

I would tell myself to start a good study routine, apply for scholarships and colleges sooner, fill out your FAFSA early in the year you graduate, visit colleges, and take the SAT more than once! College is all about helping yourself understand your work. Sure there are teachers and tutors, but the bulk of the work sits on your shoulders. Applying and getting accepted early keeps you from having to rush getting everything in order before the deadlines. The five P's, Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance, should be your best friend right now Scholarships are the best thing known to man! They are free money! Apply for as many scholarships as you can so all the burden of paying is not on your parents. The FAFSA helps with this too! The sooner it gets done, the earlier you can get some Hope Grant/Scholarship or Pell Grant money! Visiting colleges would help you decide whether you'll be comfortable with the environment and classes. One of the most important things, if not the most important thing, is to take the SAT and score high! That is the reason for taking it early and more than once! Good luck!

the advice i would give to myself would be to buckle down more my jounor year if i had a better gpa that year it would have been easier to apply for scholarships. I would have told myself to take more time to study for my ap tests more for the three year i could take them i attended nine of them. One other word of advice is to quit working senior year and enjoy the last bits of the high school experience that way i could have focused more on getting more scholarships and my grades.

I have gotten alot out of going to college. I am a dual enrolled student and the experience has been unlike anything I've ever experienced. I have realized that life isn't just about high school drama and whats for lunch. I've learned how to really look at life and examine it in the fullest. I enjoy school and love the fact that I'm well on my way to making a better life for myself. I look forward to class and try my hardest everyday. My experience in college has made me realize that my options are endless and I am able to do anything I want. It has made me more independent and confident as a student and as a person.

Michelle

I entered college two years early. I am a sixteen year old sophmore in college. I feel that entering college early has been a very valuable experiance. Not only have I learned a lot academically, I have learned a lot of life skills while in college. After moving into a college dorm I have learned a lot about responsibility and self discipline. I feel that these life skills along with my college education that I will go far in life and benefit greatly from what I have learned in college.

Nicolas

Try harder, study more, and prepare better. I should have study more for the SAT and hopefully made a higher score that could have put me in higher classes. I would tell myself to not waste my time on people, because I would be meeting new people.

Cristy

I would tell myself, really these are the best days of your life! However, you must plan for your future. I know you think you are "grown" and can make adult decisions, but just listen to me for once! It is very important for you to take excelled classes to prepare you for college. Also, some of the classes may count towards college credits; therefore, it may limit some of the schooling you may have to do. It can eliminate some classes from the program of study if you take AP classes. I know it is hard to make a decision of what you want to do for the rest of your life, but try and prepare yourself for college. You also need to attend college as soon as you graduate because you dont want to look back when you are 25 and feel like you are spinning wheels going no where in life!! That is where I am now! I am trying so hard to complete my dream of being a Mechanical Engineer; however, I just need a little financial boost without having to take out loans! Please consider me for this scholarship! Thank you!

Alexis

My advice would be to always stay on top of paper work and learn the ends and outs of one's own financial situations. Knowledge is power, so its available to use.

Amanda

During my senior year of high school I became pregnant. It devastated me! I was looking forward to going straight to college and having a successful future. I felt hopeless in my new situation. I knew that I would not be able to depend on the father for any help in raising my child, so I had to make sure I could support both me and my child. I decided to attend a technical school because it was so much quicker than going to a four year college. I did not think I had enough time to get a degree. That opened doors for me, but I have had many let downs in the past ten years because I did not have a college education. I found out that sometimes experience just is not enough without a college education. If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would say "Don't stress out so much, it will be harder now but you can still do it." I would also tell myself, "Go ahead and go to college. It may take you longer to finish now, but it will be worth it."

Jessica

If I could go back in time i would tell my self " College is alot harder than you know. You need to take it seriously and not sluff off your senior year. Get your head on straight and listen to your mom and dad they know what they are talking about. You need to look for those scholarships other wise you will end up in terrible debt like I am now so change it for your self. You can do it, search long and hard, do not play around and procrastinate. You are the first to go to college out of your whole family. You need to show them that others can do it to, be a leader for your sister. Do not let your lack of determination disappoint her. She looks up to you and wants to be just like her big sister. You are also your dads first baby and he is so proud of you. Do not let him down. He brags about how good you are when you do not even know it. So do something good for your self, try harder and stop worrying about boys. Please take your own advise."

Michael

Although I'm not foolish enough to believe that I would have listened to myself, I would have tried to persuade the younger, more immature version of me that it is in my best interest to attend college. Whether you end up going to college or not, life itself demands hard work, and in the end, it all pays off. As a twenty year old student working his way through college, most of my time is spent either working or doing school work. But, in retrospect, I believe that my decision to work two jobs and go to school was the best decision i've ever made. As a college student, you will learn about life outside of the classroom as well as in. By making the commitment to go to school, and possibly working your tail off just to afford it, you've made a sacrifice that many are unwilling to make. You are beginning a long journey towards a life of success. Not just success in your career, but also in life. When your life is coming to an end, wouldn't you like to be able to look back and say, "look at everything i've achieved."

I would tell myself to stay true to myself and do the right thing no matter what my friends are doing. Focus on my school work and try your best no matter if it seems hard or not. I would also tell myself that I picked the right school to go to and that I should keep doing a good job

Jasmine

I need to study more on my schoolwork in my free time and be more serious about my work. Keep my grades up so that i could get accepted to a real HBCU University school and graduate with honors. Study for the SAT so i can make a high score in all parts and i dont have to take Compass Placement Exams to get in classes in college i would automatically get into my major. I need to be more organized, also i should study more for tests and quizzes so that i could get in the habit of studying for them and passing them and maintaining good grades.

Nicole

I would suggest to my self to take a look at the college that ended up finding my major in but back then was something i didnt think was for me..
