What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Jason

The facilities, staff, programs, and athletics should almost be a non-issue (as long as they provide the majors you're interested in). At almost every college they will be essentially identical - you'll get out of them what you put into them. Love the students you are around. When you are looking at schools please take the time to be around the students. Find out if people leave on the weekends (don't even bother with a suitcase college). What kind of people are there? Do they make eye contact while walking down the sidewalk? Will they hold doors for you? Go to the food serving places and see what people are doing there - are they there to spend time with people or are they doing homework/reading the newspaper/talking on the phone/listenting to music? Listen carefully to people - are they complaining? Your concern shouldn't be what they are complaining about, but that there is a culture of unrest on campus. There's no perfect school, so go to school with people who are alright with slight imperfections. Find satisfied people -where they go to school is where you should go to school.
