Some dorms are pretty bad-ass, while others are just bad. Weatherford looks absolutely stunning from the outside, but seems to be full of juniors and seniors mostly, so, as a freshman when I lived there, my neighbors already went through their freshman stage; they stuck to their rooms most of the time. But some of the less expensive dorms, like Wilson, have a more welcoming feel to them, and you're surrounded by people who are going through the same things as you are. If I could go back I would forget about the fancy dorms and live where my friends and people my age lived.
And room size is kind of a bummer - some are quite small, but always doable with some clever rearranging and stuffing crap under the bed. Honestly, though, all you need is a good roommate or at least a few good neighbors who have your back on those lovely drunken mornings, and any small or smelly dorm won't matter.
Each dorm hall is different, and even every floor in the same dorm hall can be different. I've lived in Bloss, on the 5th floor, and it is by far a quiet floor. However, there are other floors that are much noisier. The best way to find out if a dorm hall is a good fit for you is to take a tour of it, not just the online tour. The rooms look significantly bigger online.
The dorms are great for your freshman year, and making many new friends. After your freshman year GET OFF CAMPUS! Do not continue living in a very over priced, extremely small living space. Living off campus will provide you with more options, as well as better experiences and memories. That being said the best dorm to live in would be Sackett.
The dorms are pretty cool. Most of them are located right next to each other so it becomes a nice little community. They are great because they are next to Dixon Recreation center and the Intramural turf fields so there is always something to do when you live in the dorms.
