Advice for parents and students about finding the right college and making the most of the experience, well for you highschool seniors, know that the right college is out there for you, take your time, read the information on all the classes and major discriptions. Also you should think about location, sometimes being to far from home is a bad thing. i like to think that anyplace about 4 hrs away is just right. For you parents and some of you students, i know its tough but price isnt always a problem.. This is your or your son/daughters education, yes the numbers are shocking but a good education is extreamly important. And after you finaly pick the school of choice, jump right in, join clubs, teams, get out there make friends. But of course dont overwelm yourself, being a freshmen is a new and exciting experiance, your grades are most important and should always come first. Just keep busy, have fun and stay out of trouble. And parents its ok to let go, chances are your kids will be home on the weekends to wash their clothes and steal all your food. =) Enjoy

Just because a college is your first choice and just becuase a college is nationally known does not mean that it is best for you. Find the college that will best suit you for your individual needs. many people jump way too fast onto their first choice in a college. Dont jump on the first school that comes around, be open minded about what the school has to offer and what will best suit you in your individual choice of study. Take your time in choosing the right college this is where you begin the start of your career.

Chris

go see all of the colleges that your looking at. go into each building that you think that you will be in. also talk to teachers and other students that will be in your major.

Derek

Ian

Advice I would give to parents/students about finding the right college for them is what feels comfortable environmentally and how you interact with teachers that you come across on their visit. Also observe the community that the college is located in and what kind of events that they have to offer., even at their prospective college. To make the most of your college experience is to just have fun and enjoy it. Don't stay in your room and do homework because then it wont be fun. Also make new friends and get involved with clubs and other activities. The more you get involved, the better of your college experience you will enjoy.

Casey

Make sure you look at multiple colleges. Your first choice may not always be the best. Dont just look at the acidemics of a school but, look at the soical life.

Mark

Take advantage of everything your school has to offer

Joe

visit the schools, even stay a weekend, talk to teachers as well as students. see what else is going on in the town or city the college is located in

Pennsylvania College Of Technology is a school that is perfect for kids and parents who dont have a social life. You will spend most of your time doing work and very little extracurricular activities. The school is Penn State University affiliated and the sports teams compete in the PSUAC conference and just recently joined the USCAA which allows them to compete for National Championships. Most of the teams are very good and compete for titles almost every year. As for dining around campus there are several different options on campus as well as plenty of off campus places to dine. Overall the food is good but paying with cash on campus can be sort of expensive. A meal plan is mandatory if you live on campus and on campus. On campus housing is kind of hard to get because most of the students live on campus. What you may find surprising though is that mostly everyone who lives on campus tend to keep to themselves. It takes more than a few people to make the campus exciting and enjoyable. Pennsylvania College Of Technology is in my opinion is a good place to start college and then transfer to other instituions.

Kristi

Housing is the most diffcult aspect of this school. Because the school really only offer's "suites" (instead of traditional dormatories) the local "student housing" landlords base their rates on school rates, and its extremely expensive. You'd be better of living a little farther from school (South Williamsport) and communting 5 minutes than being taken advantage of by local landlords. You'll find most rates to be around $650/mo per student.

I would definitely tell parents and students alike that they should start searching for colleges as soon as they can. Finding the right college can make all the difference, not only financially, but academically as well. To make most of their college experience students should make friends with as many people as they can and not judge someone by how they look or act. Having friends at college is one of the best things a person can have. By being involved in various activities, people can make friends and enjoy what the college has to offer.

Matt

Just find the school with a program that appeals to you, and go there. If it seems bad at first, it gets better. Also, definitely try to have a job. Do NOT go home on weekends. Stick it out and find stuff to do.

Benjamyn

Check out each school, make sure it is what you want and the class room setting is how you will feel comfortable. Make sure they have adequate support services and tutoring available.

Nicholas

Advice I would give to parents/students is to look at as many colleges as you can and pick the one you truely like the most. In the end sometimes the first school you pick isn't aways the best even if you may think it is. Also, choose a college that truely fits what you are looking for in life, not just one because all of your friends are goin there or its really close to home. Sometimes being away, making new friends, and dealing with a new environment all together can be one of the greatest times of your life.

Brittany

My advice is something that many people would probably overlook. My advice would be to look at the boy to girl ratio of the college you are interested in. I made the mistake to not check that and I am regretting it now. My school is mostly a male campus and I get harrassed a lot. If you are a girl entering college, you want to focus on academics, not where you can or can't walk on campus. Parents also should look at this, since they want their child to be safe. My advice for making the most out of the college experience is to socialize and be active in organizations on campus. I think it makes your time in college go by faster and easier. It also helps when you are stressed out because you can turn to close friends for help.

Dustin

The best advice that you can give any potential college student is to look at as many colleges as possible. This will enable you to find a place that will best fit your lifestyle and personality. The key to success is to study hard and get your work done before your social life and be sure to get out there and make some new friends. Afterall college is not just about learning and getting a good job. It's also about finding yourself, making friendships, and creating memories that will last you a lifetime.

Peter

The worst desicion you can make is picking a school just because your significant other is going there. Other than that, the best thing you can do is visit the school and try to talk to current students in the major you are considering. They will give you a lot more useful and truthful information than the college employees will.

Michelle

Parents or students check everything the college offers such as majors and other opportunites like job placement. Also they should check events that are offered during the week or weekend. And to make sure the school is right for them.

Tony

Before deciding which college to attend, make sure to not only focus in on what the school has to offer but the city/town in which the school resides and the community. Be sure to visit the college AND the city/town to really get a feel of what it will be like to stay there for the next year and beyond. Would it be a place that you are comfortable living in and would be able to fit in, is it an area similar to the surrounding area you are in now or totally different. Can you handle it if the college town is completely different from the area you are use to. All these are important things to consider when selecting a college to go to because its not just about the school, the community is just as important. The college experience goes beyond the campus itself, it is the places you can go, sights you can see around the town/city to get away from the stresses of school work and spend time with college friends to create the college moments that you will remember for a lifetime.

Courtney

To find the right college, I would suggest taking as many college visits to the ones you are interested in. That way you know the atmosphere and the enviroment you could possibly be in. To make most of your college experience join a club or activity that you have always been interested in. You will make many friends and feel apart of something. Colleges usual offer more varitey in activites then in high school.
