What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?


Many students wish that they had researched all the programs available at Santa Monica College in order to participate in different programs that could enhance their community college experience. One particular program is the Scholars Program which is an honors program that aids in transfering to top tier 4-year universities.


I wish I would have known how difficult it was to get a class.


What I wish i had known before was to take the college experiance very seriously. I went with the idea that it was going to be similar to high school. It is not like high school. When your in college you must study for every thing and make sure to do everything on time because the professors aren't usually going to give you a break. Always be on time and never leave early because if your not, you might be counted as absent even though you were there for half the time. College also isn't all about parties!


Having knowledge of and access to the variety of resources available is key to one's success on any college campus. I had previously attended a four year college and grew accustomed to counselors reaching out to students. The resources that were spoon-fed to me there were only a few of the vareity of opportunities. I do wish that I had the drive to research the sometimes hidden opportunities available


I wish I had known that college was much different than high school and grades are earned, not given.


I don't think there is anything that I had not known about the school before I arrived here except for the select few things that were pleasently suprising, like having free bus rides on Santa Monica's Big Blue Bus; that helped me out a lot considering I had no car. But there was nothing I wished I had known before. I made sure to be prepared for my arrival here and I am glad I took that precaution.
