Spring Arbor University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Ramius

The worst thing about Spring Arbor University would probably be the tuition. The professors are all top-notch, caring people that make an effort to know their students; the food provided is excellent (especially to other schools I've heard, after talking to many friends from other universities); the environment provides a small, close knit community with excellent room & board, as well as quality classrooms, materials and other buildings. The only thing is, with tuition being as high as it is (rightfully so, to keep up this level of excellence), it's very pricy to study here.

I believe the worst thing about my school is that it is so easy to fall into the motions of the Christian faith. SAU is a Christian private school and often times students feel that by going to the school and going to mandatory chapel twice a week is enough. Student's faith and dedication towards the Lord transistions from "on fire" to "lukewarm" and some times even to "freezing cold". The faith is so forced upon here, an act of rebellion is the result and students question their existance on the campus.

The worst thing about my school would be the food. For the most part it is okay. However, it doesn't have alot of variety and it is almost impossible to eat a healthy meal. Another issue with the food would be the meal plan. The student should be able to choose what option they would like to have regardless of which dorms they stay in or their school standing.

The worst thing about Spring Arbor would have to be the location. There's good and bad too it, but being in rural southern Michigan, there's not that much we can do directly off campus. Sure, there aren't as many distractions from our school work, but if we want to do something interesting or new, we have to drive at least 40 minutes to either East Lansing or Ann Arbor. Kalamazoo and Detroit are 1 hour in either direction.

Katherine

The worst thing about Spring Arbor University is that there are many seemingly unnecessary rules that a student has to follow when attending that university. It is a private christian college, so there are many rules about how often you can hang out with the opposite gender in your room, and what you can watch online, and how many times you have to attend Chapel.

Sabrina

The worst thing about our school is that they put some unrealisitc restrictions in a few ways. For example a student who is 21 or over is not allowed to drink even off campus if they are enrolled in classes. This has recently changed to allow students to do so in the summer or on Christmas break, but I think that restrictions like that are a turn off to some students.

Rebekah

The food in the dining commons is definitely the worst thing about Spring Arbor. Students complain about it all the time yet it never really seems like the school does anything to fix the problem.

Elizabeth

The worst thing about Spring Arbor is the "Spring Arbor Bubble." Spring Arbor University has such a wonderful and supportive Christian atmosphere that it is almost shocking to enter the "real world" again.

Krista

I hate to put an emphisis on what is wrong with this school because there are so many good things around me. However, if I had to choose one thing that I didn't like about my school it would be all the restricting rules. I agree with most of them, but wish that people would choose to obey these rules on their own. For instance, students should choose to attend chapel, and abstain from drinking on their own. I feel that if a student chooses to restrain from something on their own, they are more likely to follow through.

Kristen

The only thing about my school that I do not like is the cafeteria food.

Joshua

The worst thing about our school is probably the meal plan. I feel as if we are paying too much per meal and there don't seem to be very good options for a lower number of meals per week.

Stacy

I just transferred but I feel as though SAU doesn't cater to the commuter.

Nathaniel

The price of tuition. Every year it keeps going up and with that room and board as well. Also there is not alot of finacial aid in this case.

Ashley

I honestly like this school a lot. I can't really think of anything off hand.

Shelley

I think that the lack of diversity racially may dissapoint some students. Especially if they come from a large city school, or an area of large diversity. The closet town is not big on cultural happenings, but is getting much better. I am a commuter and find there isn't really a place for us. We sometimes eat in our cars. There really isn't a place for us to be.

I guess the worst thing about my school is the fact that 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the students who attend are from the state of Michigan. Since I live out of state (14 hours from home), it is nearly impossible for me to go home on weekend and rarely on breaks, either. Therefore, when most students go home on weekends, I find myself alone. However, since I am an introvert, I usually find something to do and am not normally bored. Also, it helps that my closest friends are usually here, as well.

Nathan

The first thing that comes to my mind when trying to think about the worst aspect of attending this university is the cost. Spring Arbor is a very expensive university to attend. If the school was cheaper to attend a lot of stress would be lifted off of the students here. The school is a great community to form friendships and learn, and grow, but it costs a lot of money. I think that a lot of students start considering other schools because of the price. I highly recommend this school to people who want great classes and community.

Kristin

The worst thing at Spring Arbor is the way some people view the rules. The rules at Spring Arbor are strict and students know that pre-registration. Luckily, this is a small percentage. Only a few students feel this way. It is just the way some people interpret rules. Spring Arbor is a conservative, Christian school. The rules are this way for a reason.

Lauren

The worst thing about Spring Arbor University is that it is in the middle of farm country. Every now and then the campus will distinctly smell like cow manure. On the other hand I suppose it is nice for those that aren't used to, or don't like, the hustle and bustle of a larger city.

Catherine

The worst thing about my school is the student center. Our school really needs a new one. My school is growing and the building is too small and really doesn't do much for the students.

Michelle

The worst thing I feel about my school is the fact that it is surrounded by fields. There is really nothing to do during the weekends and there is nothing entertaining to do within walking distance. It is exactly a ?college-friendly? environment. For example, it would be nice to have a mall, bowling alley, or a movie theatre around our town. There are entertaining things to do but they are about ten to fifteen miles outside of the city where our university is located.

Gretchen

The Chapel is not large enough to fit everyone safely. This could be a fire hazard.

Benjamin

I do think that it is too small. I would love to have a thousand more students or so.
