What are the most popular student activities/groups?

David

The Student Association charters over 160 student groups on campus. Over 70{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} are involved in a club or intramural sports, 8{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} are involved in greek life, and the cultural organizations are the largest on campus. Dorms are the most social places on campus, and people always leave their doors open and want to hang out. Annual events like Newing Navy, Casino-in-the-Woods, Woods-stock, Oktoberfest and Campus Wars permeate the residential communities. Everyone goes to the basketball games (let's go Bearcats!) and they also go downtown to State Street where the bars are. But, it's totally fine to stay in and just hang out, or do work, or go to the movies - we understand.

greek life is pretty popular in binghamton. sports events are also popular and a lot of people also attend the theatre productions. i honestly don't know what the party scene is like at binghamton, but generally i'd say that people party on weekends. i'd also say most of the drinking is done off campus. intervarsity christian fellowship is a group that i invest a lot of time in at binghamton. i've made my closest friends through iv and also because i live near some iv members as well. although most of the students are chinese american, iv has rapidly become diverse and i enjoy that aspect of the group. we focus on promoting fellowship and transforming/renewing ourselves and our campus. the members of iv are genuinely caring and are greatly welcoming and it feels like a family. whether you drink or not is your own personal decision. if you drink, i'm sure you can go out and find people/friends to drink with. but my friends and i don't drink and we're fine and have a good college experience as well.

I would say Hillel is definitely one of the really well organized and defined groups on campus. They always have interesting events advertised, and they seem to get a lot of support from the student body and administration. I'm personally involved on the leadership team for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship. We've grown to be a group of about 100 members who are of different cultural and religious backgrounds, investigating who God is. We seek diversity and community support, learning what it means to live in community with each other, despite our differences. We meet once a week for large group (where we talk about life topics, such as encouragement), and there are weekly small groups in each community (where we get to know other members in a more personal environment and discuss things like the Bible, life issues, etc.)I've been a part of this campus group since I've been a freshman. Why have I stayed? When I was invited to Intervarsity, I was overwhelmed by the spirit of the members. They genuinely wanted to take care of each other, support each other and find out who this God is, together. I fell in love with that. These people know the good things about me as well as my dirt and they still accept me. That's the best I can ask for of the people in my fellowship, which is where I've found my closest friends, friends I know I'll have for an insanely long time. So, if I'm awake at 2am in the morning, what am I doing? I'm probably with these friends: having a straight up talk about life , it's troubles or blessings, or about what crazy things that God's doing in our lives, enjoying a movie, or doing stuff together that families do (laundry, cooking in the dorms, eating at the dining halls, studying together, distracting each other... = ) And what do we do on weekends? We play sports like softball, catch, soccer, football, have potlucks, eat out, play board games, go shopping for groceries, or talk deep into the night.

The most popular groups are definitely the sports teams and fraternities/sororities. I am involved with student government which is a very talented group of individuals who care about improving the school. Dorm room doors are frequently left open. Basketball games are very popular as are the soccer games. I met my closest friends by interacting with people within my dorm building. If I am awake at 2am tuesday I am watching The Departed with my roommate. Traditions that happen here each year are spring fling and relay for life, campus wars etc. People party pretty frequently, starting from thursday and going through the weekend. Greek Life is an important part of the campus. Last weekend I attended an acapella concert one night and went to a friends house the next. On a Saturday night you can go to latenite binghamton and enjoy activities there or go to a movie or just relax from a long week.

Intramurals all great and very well organized. The athletic department is becoming popular and successful. There are frequent, high-esteemed guest speakers in all topics. The Readers Series is particularly impressive. Frats and sororities are popular but definitely avoidable. There are all kinds of social things to do. See a movie. Play sports. Video games. You don't need to drink to have fun.
