The type of person that should attend this school should be open minded. SUNY Potsdam, although the small size, is very diverse. Coming to this school should mean trying many new things. When I first came here i never though i would be involved with anything. A semester later i am a part of the Biology Club, Pre-Health Club, and scientific reseach of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.
Very open minded and artsy people would fit right in. However, the students vary significantly from ethnicity, seuxal orientation, and interests, and people generally are very acccepting. One would definitely have to be very open minded, and if they are big into music they will be even better off. Conservative minded individuals would have a hard time dealing socially.
Someone one who grew up in an urban area. Coming to Potsdam was a real culture shock for me in the first year and I thought about transferring. In the next few years I got accustomed to the life style that it provided. It allowed me to appreciate nature more than I previously had, and also allowed me to be O.K. with a slower paced, layed back lifestyle.
If you love music and have a hard work ethic, you should come. The work -load can be very demanding, but once you graduate from the Crane School of Music, everyone in New York State music education knows you got a really good education.
If you are a laid-back people person this school would be wonderful for you. If you live being involved in any way this is you type of school. Also, you have to be used to this, sometimes, slow pace of things in the upstate.
Someone who is looking for a small liberal-arts college with a close-knit community of faculty and students.
ANYBODY. But most importantly, open-minded people!
