I wish I had known to take the campus services more seriously in my first year or two - SU has some fantastic programs that admittedly I had little time for, but I do regret not making time for some. The sheer breadth of activities is incredible, and there are far more than advertised. Check around - many programs are hidden in the papers that could offer great opportunities.

Before I came to Syracuse University I wish I had known what is allowed and what is not allowed in rooms such as water boilers and halogen lamps. I also wish I had known that it is a lot of work, no matter what program I am attending

Wilson

I wish someone had told me before i arrived here at Syracuse University that i would need a planner. Where there are courses, there are assignments and exams. Keeping track of what needs to be done and by when is difficult when it's all just floating around in your head. Writing them down helps you get assignments done on time, and studying done before the exam without any cramming.

I wish I had some previous architecture class that would have helped me keep good grades in the architecture program. I felt behind since everyone had previous knowledge and I did not. It was very hard for me to do well.

Before I came to Syracuse, I wish I had known that you had to keep a 2.75 GPA to maintain your university scholarship. I was under the impression that the rewuired GPA was a 2.5, therefore I have to work harder to keep my scholarship. This was changed this school year as I was entering, so I was surprised to learn this. This new rule motivates students to work harder, so I am fine with it. I also wishI knew that you had to work hard on getting a work-study job on your own.

Jessica

The determination to keep going. Everyday is a new day and everyday brings more and more responsibility to oneself. One must realize that once you start your success you must keep striving for it and try to pass all the obstacles that are put in front of you.

Jackson

I wish that I was aware of how much work architectural studies involved. If I had known, then I would have been able to acclimate sooner. As it is, I am well situated and have become comfortable with a heavy workload. At this point in my education, I would prefer to pursue academic success than to waste my time at fraternities. I also wish that I had known of the divide between the academic intensity of the architecture school and the rest of the university: as it tends to result in me studying while other people are partying very loudly.

Stacy

I wish i had known more about the classes i would take.

Bridget

I wish I had known more about greek life. There is a large greek presence and while I am not in a sorority or fraternity I would have liked to know more about how it worked and the benefits of joining one of those groups. I have never regreted not being part of greek life, but I don't feel that I made the most educated decision because I didn't know much about it.

Felicia

Syracuse University emphasizes a multicultural approach to campus life. I wish I knew more options for expanding my knowledge of different cultures. The school offers many options like going abroad. I actually went abroad but wish I had planned my schedule out accordingly. They should market their program more because it draws a lot of students and encourages them to participate in cultural competencies.

Christopher

I wish I had known how heavy the course load would be and how much time I would have to devote to studying. Now that I am here and have adjusted, I hardly consider it an issue, but just something I have to do and something that is part of my life. It would have been nice to know before I came here so I could have acclimated myself sooner.

David

Before I came to this school i wish i knew what it was like to live on campus. I decided not to live on campus because I am a local student that has always lived in Syracuse. Madison

That I would not be able to graduate on time, recieve no financial aid ever, and that my advisors didn't actually know what they were doing. I ended up taking five classes my freshman year that ended up counting for nothing and now I'm a semester behind so I have to pay for another semester of classes.

Ethan

It's not as easy as high school. I was a straight-A student in high school, and I thought college would be just as easy. But college is harder, and I slacked off and got a couple B's that I'm going to have to work hard to bring up now.

Seble

Ying

I wish I could have known better about myself, about my true, own self that not what other people had told me "Ying, You are...." I knew that college is different than any of my education experiences but no one in my family had told me how hard it is to handle as first generation as well as a non-native english speaker. I knew about myself since I was 12, I knew what I want to be, what I want to do, but I had over estimate my ability to handle things by other people's perspectives on me.

Rebecca

I wish I had known about the horrors of the dining hall food, and the inflexible meal plan the school uses to shove the grease and oil down your throat earlier. Then, I would have gotten a much lower meal plan, saved money, and avoided getting the freshman 15.

Fjolla

I wish I had known more about applying to do research earlier so that I can get the experience. This is because it is very tough to get to do research since there are so many students and alot of competition. I also wish I was more aware of the extracurricular activities so that I could of joined them earlier and become more active during my freshman year in college.

David

You need to rely on yourself more in a college enviornment. Besides schoolwork, tedious chores such as laundry and cooking meals become a part of your routine. I had difficulty at first adjusting to this as I felt that I was plopped into a place that was very demanding of me. I was not sure if I was capable (in terms of intellect and basic skills) of handling the daunting challenge. But once I got into a rythm and become accutomsed to my surroundings, I felt much more comfortable and at ease.

Melia

?Welcome to the Animal House. College is the best four years of your life.? Wrong. It?s freshmen year. You don?t know anyone, you?re up until 3am writing a paper, you miss Mom?s cooking, you?re usually lost, and you think you?re all alone. Wrong again. You are never alone. Remember that everyone is scared, and everyone worries about fitting in. You enter college on that common ground. Knowing this will help you ignite lasting friendships with your peers. Do not be afraid to reach out, always make the most of the situation, and pack Advil.

Jack

One thing that I wish I had known before I came to Syracuse. I wish I had known of the advantage gained by taking AP exams. Had I know the amount of prerequisites that can be bypassed by receiving credit for AP exams I would have taken more of the exams and could therefore have a little less of a class load. In the long run, it may be for the better to ensure that I fully understand the prerequisites before moving on.

Sterling

Wish I known about the terrible winters and very cold weather. I also wish I learned about other sorts of scholarships and programs such as C-Step before entering four years ago.

Jonathan

I wish I had gone to see my advisor early before class started this semester.

John

I wish I had known that I would fit in here, and make friends, and find things to do. I was so worried that I was going to feel out of place that I got myself so nervous for coming here.

Sarah

I entered the Syracuse University as a well rounded student. My high school experience greatly helped me succeed in college. There's absolutely nothing elese I needed to know before entering. In fact I believe that this extra information would take away from the surprise and intrigue of what it is like to be a college freshman.

How the science program worked. As a high school senior I didn't think about actually researching the programs I was applying to, and I just researched the schools in genera. Sometimes, there is difference... and it's good to know what you are getting yourself into. Look at the course selection and requirements!

Carly

I wish I knew that the concept of obtaining internships is very important here. There are centers on campus devoted to getting students real-world, hands on experience. Professors stress this a lot too, not only for experience itself, but for an impressive resume. Students, however, have to take the initiative in the matter.

Jeffrey

That greek life played such a big role in social activities. You are looked down upon if you are not in a fraternity or not in one of the "better" fraternities.

Dan

That internships that are geographically away can be more costly than school housing and food!

Meghan

I wish I had known what I wanted to major in before I started school.

It is definitely cold and windy. The walks to and from class can be a killer in the winter, but you get used it. The weather really doesn't stop the campus and everything continues normally even with feet of snow on the ground.
