What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Patrick

I have learned more about time management than anything. Also, I have been put in many uncomfortable situations, which happens in the real world with an alarming amount of frequency. College has prepared me for how to react to situations in which I am uncomfortable.

Jorge

I learned that college is very challenging, it is also different from high school, the work, the professors, and class sizes. With my experience in college, I've been able to overcome the challenges of tediuos homework, and gain focus on the important facts in life. Instead of having "fun", I would read books to stay on task for my history class, which was a pain for me this year. When mid semester grades were given, I had a D in my history class, from that day on I made my goal in that class to receive a B or higher. I had a setback later in the semester I received an extremely low grade on a quiz. At the end of the semester i passed the rest of the quizzes with 85 and above grades, and I only missed one point in my final exam, so I received a B as my final grade. Attending college is a great experience, the challenges you face during your college experience will assist you in future problems. It also gives you hope for the future and becoming independent.

As a married mom of three kids going back to school is fun, educational and sometimes challenging. I have learned that even when things get stressful or seem too tough, that I have the drive and desire to keep going. Since I didn't finish college right out of high school it has been an amazing adventure for me to be able to go back to college at a later age in life. Attending college now, at age 32, has been so valuable to me for many reasons. One of those reasons is that it has allowed me to learn so much about myself, knowing that I can balance school, work and a family. I have learned that I have a passion and a desire to learn that I didn't know existed in me until I started taking classes again. However, the most valuable thing I have learned from attending college now is teaching my children that it's never to late to finish what you start and though obstacles may come and go in life, your education will be the foundation of many great things to come.

I have been able to find a really good group of guys on the A & M cycling team. Everyone is super nice and everyone is out there to have fun. The cycling team has taken me to some stunningly picturesque places to ride my bikes and the experiences and laughter I have shared with them quickly forged my friendships with everyone on the team. If I didn't have the cycling team, I would a completely different and probably very unhappy person. I am going to remember camping out with my friends and telling stories more than I will remember the most recent formula I had to memorize. The experiences are what I treasure most and what I will remember the most.

I have gotten a much need direction in my life from my college experiance. I know what I need to do in order to be where I want to be in the next 10 years. Without this college experiance I would have been stumbling though life like I have been in highschool. I have a better grasp for the amount of time and effort I need to put in something to be successful one day. College was vaulable for me to attend because without it I would not have a starting point for going into a field/ industry. I am going to continue attending college not just to learn the the raw skill required in my desired field, but to obtain the wisdom of my professors, prep myself for my derised industry, and make connections with people I wouldn't met in my parent's hometown.

Caleb

I am from a relatively small, conservative town in Texas. If there is one thing I have gotten out of my college experience, it would be that I have gotten away from home and stepped out into a world of opportunities and diversity. Texas A&M has offered me the chance to meet many new people, and through its strong traditions, has allowed me to form an unexplainable comradery with these people. My college has not only given me the opportunity to receive one of the finest educations in the world, but to form friendships and meet different types of people from all over the world. The price of tuition seems small when compared to the opportunity of exposing myself to different cultures and ideas formed by many different people from different nations. It has changed my life and opened my eyes to see that the world is full of different types of people, each with individual ideas and opinions that collectively make the world a successful network of interaction.

Louis

My college experience has been unlike most others, came to the school with other friends from high school and have stuck with them ever since. I have also found new friends through different organizations. It has been valuable for me becuase it opened my eyes to a different perspective on things such as global warming. I first enrolled through the College of Geosciences but have since transferred to the College of Architecture. By doing so, I have still kept my love for weather and nature but have focused on Housing and Community Development. Through such things as urban sprawl and mixed use development, I have seen how my city is trying to attract residents back in the inner city and create an attractive downtown social life.

Tiffany

On my first day as a college freshman I had several fears, the first one was that I would get lost in the school, the second one was that I would not know anyone there, and that I would have problems meeting new people and making friends, and that last one is that I would not be able to cut it academically. To begin with one my first day at college my first fear is that I would get lost on campus. But after a couple of days this fear began to go away, as I learned my way around the campus. I was afraid that I would not have anyone in class that I knew, and that I would not be able to make new friends fast. However after about four or five weeks, I began to get used to everyone, and began to open up to try and make new friends. Lastly, I begin to do well academically too.Why has it been valuable for me to attend college? It gave me the audacity, that I can face any innovative environment challenges in my future.

Laura

My college experience prepared me for building and nourishing not only personal and professional relationships, but reinforced my passion and for community involvement and service orientated habits. My college experience developed a strong foundation of confidence and pride in my relevant knowledge and tactical skills to be developed in the growth of my career and professional growth. Ambition, while a necessity, will only lead a person to their aspirations and possibiities. Determination and action need to be implemented to the one's fullest potential, as well as consistently continued to be developed and strengthed upon. My experience at Texas A&M University and my personal influences have instilled the valuable drive and a work ethic of a life-long learner that has allowed me to achieve and succeed in my past, present and future goals throughout my professional growth.

Reese

Since I have been studying at Texas A&M University I have truly learned a great deal about myself. At first I was attending the college for all the wrong reasons. Fraternity parties and football games were all that occupied my mind and interests. As a result of my chosen priorities, my fist semester GPA was a disaster. I undoubtedly thought that I was going to be kicked out of the University and asked to never return. After a well needed fall break I returned for my spring semester with all of my ducks in a row. I bought a planner and began to put all my important dates in it. I spent countless hours of my weekends in the library and I learned what it meant to work hard for a good grade. My second semester at Texas A&M I finished with a satisfied 3.8 GPA. Overall this has been a coming of age experience, as it has prepared me more for the real world than anything ever has. I have learned what it means to be efficient, on time and well prepared.

Kirsten

What I have gotten out of my college experience so far is what not to do during college. I live in an apartment by myself with my dog, which is fine, but I did not get involved on campus. I have gotten to know myself better and I am a stronger, more independent person thanks to this first year of college. It has been valuable to me to attend college because I have been able to see my strengths and my weaknesses. I've worked since I was a junior in high school, and have defied many people who didn't believe I could work while in school or live alone. It has also been valuable to let me see that I need to be more social and not be afraid to go out and make friends. Thank you for considering me for this scholarship!

Candice

I came to Texas A&M as a girl who had never been exposed to much diversity or differing opinions of the world. The university is not a place I would consider diverse as a whole, but within it there are niche groups who are quite diverse. Within these smaller groups I found myself challenging my ideals, looking at others in new lights, and overall changing my perspective on the world. I have become more tolerant, more open, and more understanding to those who are not like me, and I spread this view readily to those who will listen. I entered Texas A&M with an idea for a career that would give me financial wealth, and I left working towards a career that will give me the knowledge and satisfaction that I have helped others to obtain the education necessary to break the cycle of poverty. I now plan to be a school psychologist in an inner city area, helping minority and underprivileged children to complete their education. Again, the university is not in my mind a beacon for diversity. However I cannot separate it from my own personal growth. It has truly made me who I am today.

Mitchell

While I have only been a student at Texas A&M for one semester, I have learned more in that time than I ever though possible. When I first came here, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I was a Civil Engineering major, despite the fact that I didn't know much about it and had never really been interested in engineering in the first place. Now, I am a Political Science major with my eyes set on doing something to help America's educational system. The people I have met and the classes I have taken during my short time here have already made a huge impact on my life. I have met some of my closest friends here already, and every one of them has affected my life. I have met a group of people who are passionate about what they love, and their passion inspired me to find something that I truly care about. I now have a newfound sense of motivation and no longer feel lost when I think about my future. Without my experiences here over the past few months, I would not be the person I am today.

Brittnay

The main thing that I have gotten out of my college experience is that you have to grow up and take responsibility for your own actions. The teachers will not baby you anymore. Honestly, it feels like a whole new world. This made me become responsible for everything, even in my personal life. The pressure of failing gets to me and I can’t be as relaxed in college as I was during high school. I still have to get use to not having to ask to go to the bathroom during a lecture. Being in College made me realize how much I was babied during high school. I enjoy college and it has changed me into a mature adult rather than the immature teenager I once was.

Clarissa

My experience at Texas A&M University prepared me for succes in my graduate school program. I am currently attending the University of Texas at Austin for my Master's degree and have felt adequatley prepared for the work load. My 4.0 in this program reflects the education I received through Texas A&M University. In addition, my experience taught me to cherish differing opinions, ask questions, and become culturally competent. Texas A&M is a very conservative school and UT is a very liberal school. My experience during my undergraduate studies taught me the importance of an education- it allows for an open mind. The dedication to service and learning at A&M also helped me gain experience in the field. I was able to intern at a crisis pregnancy center, a hospital, and a sexual assault resource center. I volunteered in the 9th ward in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and interned in the Bronx in New York City through sociology classes at Texas A&M University. I learned in the classroom and in the field. My education and experience at Texas A&M have been extremely impactful and valuable to my life and future career goals.

iyana

what i have received thoughout my college experince was, having more of a sence that i was my own person and that I am now an adult. If i wanted to do better in school and had questions none was going to hold my hand the whole time to make me be responsible. My future was is in my hands now and i have to work hard no matter how hard it gets, to meet my goals and be successfull in life. To attent my college was very valuable to me because I got everything I can ask for in a college I met new friends, the instructors are very great people and they challenge you enough to show how what your capable of. College opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities and that i am very greatful to have. Everything that I learned and will continue to learn I can use this to help me with every aspect of my life.

Kelsey

The sense of community is wonderful at Texas A&M. I know that I can always rely on a fellow aggie if I am down on my luck or need a helping hand. I also appreciated the wonderful professors on my campus. They were genuinely concerned about my quality of learning. I was never taught by a TA, not once, and my professors always had set office hours when they would personally meet with students. I adored this school.

Tammy

My college experience has allowed opportunities that otherwise would not have been available had I not graduated. I have worked with some amazing people over the years because I had a college degree. I have found my true passion which is education and work hard at promoting life-long learning to others young and old.

sonja

i started my journey in 2006. i had a few bumps but i am still kicking and going to accomplish what i set out to do which is to graduate. I am 37 years old and a mother of five. My college experience has taught me about diversity, and how to have relationships with other cultures. I have enjoyed my educational trip these past few years. I had to learn how to focus and study all over again, It's really been amazing. I am almost at the finish line and i plan to continue my education afterwards.

Doreen

I have gotten a lot out of my college experience. First thing is you can always learn. I am an older student. I have raised my children and now they are going off to college. I am too. As a science major and the discoveries are alway flowing. There is always something to learn. Reviewing the basics allows for new learning. The Professors are not always correct in grading so don't be afraid to approach them respectfully and ask why the answer is marked wrong. Most of the professor want you to do good. But I have cross paths with one that did not want his students to learn more than he thought they should. Thus, a psychology class is valuable. This type of person wants to be ahead by putting you down. Know how to deal with this. If not in college in life you will need to know. A statsics class will be valuable to understand the news better. Polls conducted by call in viewers will have a basis. Poll givers can maniplulate the question being presented. Findout the phrasing of the question asked to see if a basis was present.

Nicole

It has allowed me to meet many different types of people that I would have never met in my small town. It has also opened my eyes to all the iinjustices in the world and has made me want to do something, make a change and not just sit back and accept everything for the way it is.

Steven

I returned to school at 36 out of necessity. I had been in construction for some years and hurt my shoulder, at the same time the housing market fell apart. I returned to school after not having been a student for 17 years, and achieved a 3.8 GPA in the Computer Science Associate program at Manchester Community College in NH. IT was the best decision I've made in my adult life. I have developed a new sense of confidence and belief in my boundless ability to attain new heights in my life. I'm hungry for each new class I take, and interesting topic I can discover. I could be a poster boy for going back to school!! I do, however, need assistance if I am to remain in school in 2011.

Sean

I started attending night classes in the field of Computer Science at my local community college in my freshman year of highschool. Not only was this a creative outlet for me, as I had been working on websites on my spare time, but it gave me a better understanding of real world application and an unending appreciation for learning, which highschool lacked severely. By going to college so early, I was also far more prepared for a career in my field, and was able to get employed as an intern in a Security and Development firm named Novacoast (where I currently am still employed). With a career and a passion for learning, it became apparent that without having attended as early as I had, I surely would have missed the oppportunity to have had the impressions of an older generation influence me on a philosophical and ethical stance, as well as the teachers understanding but strict policies which instilled fortitude and a steadfast resolution. For that, I find my past and continuing college experiences invaluable in helping pave the road to suceeding in my aspirations.

Savannah

I have learned time management and how to take care of things on my own. I have learned the value of money and hard work. I also have learned how hard work can pay off and how doing your best regardless if you get that 100 on a test always feels great. I have also been able to experience the rush of the game when watching your football team score and staying up late for college school traditions. This experience has been an amazing one and one I will take with me to tell my children and grandchildren.

Kylie

Attending Texas A&M University in College Station has been a wonderful experience for me. I have not only received an excellent education and earned my degree in Telecommunications: Media Studies, I have made lifelong friends. I have had opportunities to study under world-renowned professors in state-of-the-art facilities. I have been part of a family of diverse people who have helped me to grow as a person and broaden my life experiences. Because of my class and work experiences, I have developed skills that will benefit me in grad school and in my career. I have had opportunities to work with organizations in leadership positions and use my talents and skills in graphic design, marketing, and consulting. In graduating with honors from Texas A&M University, I have achieved one of my goals; this, in turn, has propelled me on to my next goal of earning my Master's degree in Sports Administsration with an emphasis on promotion and marketing. With my degree and experiences from Texas A&M, I know I am ready for the next step.

As a college student, I have gotten more than I could ever ask for. I came here thinking I was just coming for an education, but I have gotten so much more already. I am so happy with the choice that I made because Texas A&M University has become a home to me. It is a place that I am proud to attend classes, and a place that I am proud to live. I have made friends who I know will be in my wedding someday and have met people who have helped me in more ways than I could ever ask. This school is a beautiful place, and it is filled with the greatest people in Texas: Aggies. I am proud to call myself an Aggie and I am proud to be surrounded by fellow Aggies.

David

I got friends, a bunch of people to support me. My education, to help me start a new career. My computer to oganize my life. I am trying to make the most out of this experience.. Meet new friends, and have a good time.

allison

I have learned how to deal with people who are different from me in many more ways than I had been exposed to grwoing up.

Education is the dominant ingredient of not only the individual’s future experience but also his mentality, morality, and capability to assess and make decisions that possess the potential to sway the course of the chosen path of fulfillment to an entirely different destination. One who does not attempt to grasp the importance of education does not deserve to show his fullest potential, if for no other reason, for lack of experience to accomplish tasks and grasp concepts unique to the desired occupation. However, aside from professional requirements, knowledge allows us to assess worldviews that alter one’s moral beliefs. The only way to prevent the blind submission to an equally blind leader is to understand what you believe in application to politics and religious orientation. Biology alone holds controversial topics including the origin of life, homosexuality, and the existence of a divine being. You will believe what you have always been told. Therefore you shackle your potential by never searching for truth through delicate investigation. Never be content with the knowledge you have halfheartedly collected lest you be bound to a life of a goldfish in an artificial world, ignorant of the beauty and complexity waiting for limitless discovery.

Although I am currently a sophomore, I have grown and changes so much since graduating high school. I have expanded my horizons in more ways than I ever imagined. I have learned the true meaning of hard work and dedication. I have also learned what it feels like to be rejected. Since I do attend a large university, competition for organizations is stiff. The first organization I applied for, I did not get accepted. This has taught me to get up, dust myself off and try harder the next time. I attended a very small high school where I was never truly familiar with rejection. Coming to Texas A&M has greatly prepared me for the "real world".

Ryan

I have gained many things from my college experience. First and foremost I gained a valuable education that will aid me in my professional career. I have also made many great friends that are now life long companions. From these friends and other students on campus I have learned to diversify and treat others fairly no matter what the situation. I have also learned to think in a more innovative way that will help me better my life and the lives of others around me as well as the environment. I have learned that anything is possible if you put your mind to it. I truly believe with all of my heart that my time at Texas A&M University has prepared me for the real world and the winding road of challenges that lies ahead of me in my life.

Munasif

i really learned a lot from this university. All professors are helpful and coreporative

Gilberto

As a returning student at the age of 28, my college experience has taught me the importance of being humble. After nine years of service in the Marine Corp, I learned the importance of leadership and discipline. Despite my experiences, I had to become humble because I quickly found that I could still learn from those that were younger. I learned that great ideas and lessons do not always come from those at the top or with the most experience. I found that great feats and novel ideas come from unlikely people. Especially in an environment filled with brilliant minds, loaded with experience and expertise. It is here at Texas A&M that I learned that those brilliant minds and those who have years of experience can be taught by those who deviate and dare to experiment and challenge the norm. I do believe that experience has carried me a long way. The most valuable experience I have learning to keep an open mind and listening to others, especially those that can be considered unlikely resources.

Peter

My college experience has provided me with the independence to strive for my own goals and it has helped me to take the initiative to put forth the time and the effort to attain those goals. My college experience has been valuable because it has strengthened me as a person and every day I spend at college I gain life experience that I will one day hopefully be able to use after graduation as a civil engineer. Texas A&M has provided me with lifelong friends, a code of ethics, and an education. I am grateful every day to be at A&M and I know that when I leave this place I will leave with the honor of being an Aggie from Texas A&M.

Alexandra

So far, college has been a great ride into the real world. I've had to adjust, getting used to classes being only every other day and some till 10 o' clock at night, but it's all worth it. I have met all kinds of people I never knew before. I have excellent professors and I appreciate their knowledge in the subject they teach. I feel as though I am actually understanding what I learn and applying it, where as in high school it was all about learning to get an A on the test. I think college is valuable to anyone because it will help you get the job way easier than someone without it. It not only is further learning, it helps you learn responsibility. Whether you are at an Ivy league or just a community college, college is definitely worth the time and money. The experiences and knowledge you receive throughout are irreplaceable.

Chase

I've made great friends, found out a lot about me and who I am, and I've gotten a great education too. People are friendly and there are so many opportunities to meet people, it's easy to make friends. Living without your parents teaches you a lot about what matters to you, and how you act when no one is looking/ forcing you to do anything. The teachers are great, the lectures make sense, and there are so many available times to get help if you need it, and they will help you. Overall, Texas A&M is a great university to attend.

Alexa

Texas A&M is an amazing college full of rich history. Once you engage and are apart of the awesome history here you feel like apart of a giant family because you all have something in common. It's been a very valuable experiance. I have made many life long friends through this campus and have attended many football games out at Kyle feild, where you're sure to have a good time. So far, I'm recieving an amazing education from this school and can not wait to get into my carrer after graduation!

Kristy

My college experience at Texas A&M University has truly helped me grow as a person. Moving away from home has taught me how to live on my own and be independent. I have gained responsibility to do what I know needs to get done. By attending a college where I didn’t know anyone else attending, I put myself out there sociably. I left my friends and family, whom I relied on for much of my support. I felt alone when I arrived at Texas A&M. However, being in college with several other college students experiencing the same experiences I was going through helped me realize I wasn’t alone. I made friends with students that had my similar interests and decided things for myself. I was responsible for my life for the first time in my life. I value my college experience because of the life lessons it has taught me and the people I have come to know.

Brandon

Going back to school to get my education has given my life a sense of direction and purpose. Before going back, I was stuck in an endless job and was miserable in all aspects of my life. Since returning, I have found a new meaning and enjoyment of life. I realized that you have to do what you are passionate about otherwise you will continue to feel unfullfilled. I have done just this. Football has always been my passion and I have recently taken on a job as a volunteer coach for a local high school but without obtaining a degree, it could not happen on any level of coaching. Education creates pathways and open up doors you never knew were there. It gives you the oppurtunity to network yourself and meet some wonderful people. Most of all, it's a win win situation. Time will pass regardless so might as well obtain a degree because that's something no one can take from you.

Taylor

I have learned to grow up. I learned to manage myself and keep my life rounded. I eat well, exercise, attend church, am devoted to a group that does volunteer work, fun work, planning, and learning, focus on all my classes, and have down time to keep myself grounded. I never knew I was capable of being so balanced until I came to this place that makes it so simple.

Karen

As a child i was told by Schools everywhere that i would never amount to anything I would never acheive a highschool education. I showed them all! I graduated highschool, well with alot of help from teachers just passing me. I went to job corps and trained to be a medical assistant. my gpa went from 1.5 to 4.0 figure that! I am interested in all things medical and my goal now is to become a massage therapist working in hospitals and nursing homes to give aid and releaf to those who cant walk or even move. When i burst a disc a few years ago it was the massages and the heat that helped me move my muscles. Why cant the same thing work for the paralyzed or bed bound patients whose muscles are withering away from disuse and causing pain. What if for 10 mins a day i work with a bed ridden patient who is in cronic pain and i can reduce there pain even 1 {4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} how much do you think that will help! My goal is to help these people either to walk again or to reduce the level of pain there currently in.

I'm only on the precipice of the Double Black Diamond run that my college experience is liable to feel like at some point or another. Having only been at college for three weeks now, I've actually gotten more from the experience so far than I expected. The most important part of the college experience is the education you recieve and the opportunities that this can open up for your future. Besides that, however, I've become a part of a huge network of students and former students that I can feel a bond with simply because we share an Alma Mater. After I get my class ring and graduate I can expect to meet people everywhere I go who will stop and talk to me simply because we've both gone through the same experience. This college gives me a place to belong, and I've found friendship, knowledge, and maybe someday a little love, here. Today is the first day of the rest of my life, and this is a great place to wake up.

David

I have gotten a vast knowledge about my subject and basic knowledge of other subjects. Also i have felt free and encouraged to explore who i am as a person and to become a more developed and mature person in regards to not only my spiritual beliefs but my beliefs about my goal here on earth. after having spent two years in college now i have come to understand that my reason to be here on this planet is to not only help other people to determine their goals but to be the greatest person i can be for my family which i hope to start building in the future. i have found my destiny to revolve around my future family and becoming the supporting father which i know that i can be. college has been an interesting experience so far and i have thoroughly enjoyed it!

Madison

Discipline is a key factor in my college experience so far. Texas A&M has so much to offer but it's hard to only pick a few things to be involved with. Academics are very challenging but if there is a will, there is a way. I've lived in Aggieland as I grew up and established a love so strong for the school. Texas A&M University is heaven sent and everything it stands for is godly. We love out students, we love our community, and we love our state.

Ashley

well i have been waiting for ever to get my college experience, i remember in my senior year thats all i dreamed about: i would have wacky and obserd dreams about my first day of college. when i finally got there id discovered that i was even more eager to go onto a program, so i started looking at colleges, institutes and trade schools that had the program i wanted, which was a vet technician program, than i dicovered pima medical institute. Now i know exactly where i want to go and look forward to starting there in october.

Perla

I have had a lot of experience with computers because mainly we used computers in the classroom. It has been very valuable because I could teach my friends and family members that don't have computer experience.

Rayen

After my first year of college, I've realized my faults and how much harder I have to work for that "A". College is nothing like High School as we have so much freedom and based on our choices, our grades will reflect on it. It unfortunately took my the full first year term to finally be able to fix and remake my studying schedule. College has taught me to use my time wisely and to be able to multi-task school, work, home and relax time. I have a deeper meaning to gain my goal in which it is not all about the money but now about the satisfation of graduating and knowing that with my hard work I will be awarded and have the sweet taste of success.

Kaitlin

My college experience has shapped who I am and who I will become. Not only was my intellect stimulated and developed but my ideals, beliefs, and actions were challenged as well to help me grow into a competent, pro-active, usefull, creative individual in the world. You will know like I did that you've had a real, valuable college experience when you meet the general goal of walking across the stage and you're handed the diploma that you've worked so hard for you and you realize that you are receiving much more than a piece of paper and a handshake. You are recieving a passport that requires not only the classes you've taken but also the endurance, the experience, the diligence, the comraderie that are necessary to fuel your pathway into the world. That feeling along with my Aggie Ring has been the two most invaluable things I have ever recieved.

Genevieve

Never have I ever changed so much, learned so much, met so many unique people, or been so comfortable with who I am than after I came to Texas A&M. Being independent for the first time in my life, I found the freedom to almost intimidating. But at school I was able to learn how to adapt to such autonomy without going so far as being irresponsible or making life altering mistakes. I learned that the rest of the world isn't the judgemental, scrutinizing place I thought it was. We are free to be who we want and to adhere to whatever form of personal expression suits us best, and there will always be someone you can relate to and who will love you for your uniquity. I took a greater step towards growing up, and I finally discovered the meaning of the words hard-work, determination, challenge, and spontanaeity. Adulthood is just around the corner, and the real world is becoming a nearer reality. I feel prepared! And I anticipate a successful and exciting future with the skills and lessons learned at A&M. Thanks and gig'em!

Forrest

My first year of college taught me many valuable things that I will use throughout my life. For the first time I was mixed with students from all over the country and world that had very different view points than myself. I learned to keep an open mind when talking to others about their politics, religion, and culture. I really feel like I've grown alot as a person this past year. I learned to rely on myself and take full reponsibility for my own actions. If I didn't study for a test and then bombed it, then it was my fault. There was nobody to blame but myself. But the same was also true when I aced a test or won a scholarship. It gave me confidence that I can make it on my own.
