Texas State University Top Questions

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Gabriella

If I could go back in time, I would have taken more dual credit classes, so I could be even further ahead in school. It is also good to be prepared for anything that might happen and to not let anything hold you back. People make mistakes everyday but instead of running from the consequences face them head on and make the best out of what happens. the further ahead you are in school the more prepared you are to face obsticles that come your way. Going to college you will learn a lot not only about yourself but people in general and these are just life lessons that will prepare you to handle society after college. You will have many ups and downs financially and emotionally but never give up on school. Try to find as many scholarships possible to help pay. Most important thing they told me when I went to school that I wish I would have listened to was to choose my friends wisely very wisely because your new environment can influence your future.

What I would like to tell myself as a high school senior I would actually like to apply to all of my high school years. Save money, be more involved, and get involved with my future college earlier. I was the type who knew exactly what I wanted, and how to do it, but still waited until the last minute to start filling out applications and getting my finances in order. As much as I liked to pretend that I knew better, I did not and it definitely effected me. However, I have learned my lesson and will always keep better order of my education and life from now on.

Ellie

I would tell myself that you don't have to run away to start over. I would say that I didn't have to move 1100 miles away from home so people would stop referring to me as the "girl who's Dad died." I would convince myself that it really isn't as bad as it seems, that people have it worse. I would insist that things wouldn't be so hard at home forever. I would advise myself to go to the University of Colorado for two years then transfer to Texas State - even if it was hard and trying. I would say that I would learn alot about people, the world, money, and myself but that inevitably, I belonged at Texas State - and that I would be happier here. I would give myself the advice that procrastinating is NOT the way to go and to make a strict schedule to follow! I'd advise that I should believe in myself more. I would give myself the advice I knew I never heard from other people; I would be honest. I would tell myself that it will always work out for the best - always.

Educationally speaking, I was on top of the world in high school. I was in my school’s honors magnet program, learning more advanced material than I would in the regular program. The crowning achievement was my graduation as an honors graduate with all its privileges, namely wearing the honor stole at graduation, being able to sit onstage at graduation, and a banquet honoring the achievement. I even was the recipient of a state scholarship for my efforts. Laziness and procrastination tied a noose around my neck. I waited until the last minute to study on many occasions and not effectively with reading only a little bit or skimming pages. For my efforts, I received mostly Bs and Cs and lost my scholarship. I decided to transfer to the community college in my hometown. At my new school, I put in more effort. I studied for every test thoroughly and read every reading assignment carefully, putting in hours of work. I made the dean’s list twice, passed most of my classes with As and Bs, and graduated cum laude with an associate degree. I would tell my story and extol the virtue of hard work to my past self.

Kirsten

Don't be so afraid of not being able to make friends, it's harder not to do so. Learning to study on your own without the aid of your parents is a challenge, but once you've got a hold of that you will do well. Get out and take every opportunity you see, they can lead you in many interesting directions. Keep your mind open and your heart strong and don't worry so much because college is gonna be a great expeirance, you will love it. You will become more interested in your subjects than you can imagine and there will be people to help you find your way.

Sara-Marie

I would advise myself to start preparing for college as early as my freshman year, by taking challenging college level classes and becoming involved in extracurricular activities such as clubs, student council, etc. That way I would have a good head start and have an idea of the path I would wish to pursue in my future.

Amanda

I would first of all inform myself of the importance of attendance in order to succeed. If I had attended more classes one semester, I would have saved myself a lot of heart break when I didn't get grades that suited who I was as a student. After that expereience, I was able to see the importance of attending classes, so I don't regret my mistake. However, I know I had to take classes again in order to raise my GPA and that has been tough. Also, you cannot be afraid of what people are going to say about you in class. Participation is key to building a relationship with your professor and will empower you to do better in the class and empower the professor to give you the good grades you deserve.

jessie

I would tell myself not to be intimidated by the professors. Most professors are willing and excited to help students succeed. I would also encourage myself to spend more free time on campus during my first few years. There are a wide variety of people and organizations that have so much to offer the students, both socially and intellectually. Lastly I would tell myself to soak up the time spent in college and appreciate the opportunity for what it was. Attending college and earning a degree is something that can never be taken away from you. I was privledged to be a part of such a great university, and I am excited to return in the fall as a graduate student.

College can brighten one's future based on the privileges offered at the university. A student's experience can encourage individuals to pursue careers in which they are deeply passionate about based on the rewarding experience the a student experienced while attending college. Four years ago, I was previously a nursing major attending Abilene Christian University whose ideals were to obtain a nursing degree to help the less fortunate. As a volunteer in the International Justice Mission and Save Darfur, I was motivated to pursue careers involving social justice which ensures the basic rights of citizens among the poor. Recently, I transfered to Texas State University - San Marcos and switched my major to Health Wellness & Promotion because I believe in order to have a healthy population, it is vital to understand the needs and available resources in order to address the community's issues that are preventing a population from maintaining good health. Attending these universities helped me to value the importance of learning to solve problems effectively and plead a cause for the less fortunate. The value of attending college is undeniably precious - the choices, endeavors, pursuits, or individual's path shapes their true identity as a person.

Erika

I have been blessed with the most beautiful experience at Texas State, this is where I have met my closest friends and enjoyed the past 3 years being involved with various off campus organizations and within the art school. My major is Photography and in that department I have been challenged and pushed to become greater while at the same time being encouraged along the way by my peers and professors. My experience at Texas State has been what I have made it. I have chosen to take harder classes to become better at something, while an easier class may have been open as well. Texas State is valuable to attend for a university that is not only big, but personal. My professors have gotten to know me on a personal level in order to better my time in college.

Lawrence

Texas State University is not a private Christian school, yet it has many Christian organizations. My faith resides in Christ; therefore, having the opportunity to be united with others who share the same faith as I do has been a great contribution to me as a person and as a student. My faith keeps me balanced, hopeful, and always in expectant that good things will happen. I think it is a beautiful sight to see a body of people in a place where God isn't deemed as top priority. Texas State University offers its students the resources and means to accomplish great things as a student, and to prepare its students for a great career post-graduation. The students have their own job search engine, which is set up for a number of employers on and off campus to view students resume for possible job opportunities. The campus and its surrounding region is extremely scenic and peaceful, which is great to help ease the mind and it also offers a variety of physical activities from the multiple rivers and trails that are in and around the city. The university predisposes the students for success.

Lauren

In attending TSU, I have had access to a beautiful campus, new lab facilities, intimate classroom settings and a course curriculum that challenges and engages me. I have also been priveleged with having wonderful teachers in my majors courses who are excited about what they teach and have real world experience in the field.

Casey

I learned so much about myself in these 1.5 semesters I've had here in San Marcos. College taught me that I'm actually very intellegent but a little too ambitious. I've made friends I hope to stay in touch with for the rest of my life. While people say that college is hard and discouraging, I have found that even more than just learning my skill, I've gained confidence in my ability to persue my skill. "Network is money," the theme of show business, is the number one most important piece of information this college has taught me. I have learned that it is better to have worked with and made a good impression on other people then to finish the project perfectly on your own. Knowing how to deal with people of every type is key, and TXST is the only univ. in the Texas that has a reality based business of film program. Lastly, I learned to live in an 12x14 room with another girl my age, and that was the most difficult challenge.

Michael

I am a high school ministry leader for the local high school. This campus and the students in it are very supportive of spiritual advancement. The education i have received has helped me learn to improve my time-management skills along with social skills. This school is such a great influence on my family, social, and academic life.

Manuel

College has been a new spiritual, social and a mind altering experiance over all. i never considered myself someone that would do any more then work in a kitchen. I figured i would always do this job and work my way up and stay put doing the same thing over and over . Since I started going to school I began to see myself and the world in a whole new light. I went from pizza places to fine dining, and All american food. I now have a great consideration that maybe in the long run I may open a restaurant with the family values of my great chef mom, and of course a twist of my culinary experiance. Im attending school for physics. Physics to me has become everything and i hope to one day understand it threw practice not just theory . College has truly changed my pea sized preseption to where iI feel i can tackle the world one step at a time, with disipline, hope, and the basic back breaking will to love hard work.

Texas State Univeristy has provided me with a unique educational experience, like all the other college kids in the nation, you attend classes, but at Texas State, there is also the out-of-classroom life that is far different than anywhere else. Texas State is located in San Marcos, which has the unique heratige of being founded by German immigrants, yet it if populated mainly by college students. This combination causes my school to get a party-school reputation with festivals such as Wurst-fest. Unlike most colleges, Texas State's students are not from around the area, but from around the large state of Texas, leading to diversity. Ever heard of "Keep Austin Weird?" That statement comes from the diversity of the Texas's capital city, which is similar to San Marcos in demographics. Texas State provides one with valuable life lessons far beyond the average college experience, lessons of acceptance of others both in and out of the classroom.

I am just planning on going back to school. I was a single parent of two children from the time my son was around a year old. He son is now 7 uears old and my daughter is 9. Life has been hard, but I did what I could working hard jobs to pay for my children alone. Recently I met a guy who not only loves me but loves my children as well. On October 30,2010 I married Kris Quirk. Although I have alot to be happy for I still seem to be searching for what is missing in my life a job I love and want to go to everyday. I am not only doing this for myself but for my family as well. I realize that in todays world you need a degree to get a good job that you like. I want to beable to enjoy every aspect of my life, I want to work at I job I enjoy. College is what I need to do to complete my life!

Maria

It is very valuable to attend to college because wether you live in a dorm or not, just going to college gives you the feeling that you are working to become someone. You expience independency and wether you like it or not being responsible is a big thing in college and in life. In college you learn many things, you meet different people but most of all you learn how to organize your life style. Attending a college or university opens many doors, opportunities that dont come every day, and when they do come you have to take them. Yes, going to college has its own expensive economic value but in those four years or more you will have learned what you need to be successful in your future career and you would have experience things that only take place in a college campus. So far in my college experience I have learned things in all my classes which I enjoyed going to and have made new friends. Also, I have learned how to manage my time and make use of it, to know my priorities and organize what has to be done. An amazing experience at college.

Jazmyne

What I have gotten out of my college experience is that it is nothing compared to high school. There's so much more to it. You have to make sure you are on your A game, studying, and doing anything possible to pass. You also have to make friends, it makes the experience much more exciting and you'll be able to form study groups which is sometimes better, depending on the students learning style.

LISA

I have realized that it is not easy to return to school at the age of 43. I have had to reprogram myself. I have many young kids in my class and I see how they are not taking it serious. I push myself everyday with homework and studying. I am receiving a 4.0 grade average. If I would have attended school at a younger age, I might not have taken it as serious as I do today. My drive and dicipline at my age and my need and want to change careers is enabled me to attend school at a different level. I have worked in law enforcement/correctional career for approximately 11+ years. I have served the public well and wanted to serve in a different light. I attended a vocational school / high school in Pa for nursing. I could not continue my medical career at that time. I now have the oppertunity to chase that dream and to serve the public in the medical field.

Lauren

I have learned a lot about who I am throughout my college experience. I went to college thinking that I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life, exactly what I wanted to major in, and exactly who I was, but I was wrong. After attending school for a year, taking two years off to figure myself out, and changing my major a few times, I realized what I needed to do to be truly happy in life- a support system. During my two years off, I became certified as a Phlebotomy Technician and fell in love with the field and everything involving the medical laboratory. I re-enrolled at Texas State University and have excelled in my classes more than ever before. My professors and friends that I have met in college have impacted my life in so many ways. The time that they have taken to help me have been the most influential thing in my life. Whether it was through academic help or personal issues, these individuals have without a doubt been the most valuable part of my college experience.

Cody

In my first semester of college, I have learned a lot. I now know that studying needs to be layed out over a few days and can't be crammed into one night before the test. It was very valuable to attend college, because I believe that it is necessary to get a career after graduating. Students should look forward to college and not be scared by it, it's a great experience and should by experienced by everyone.

Bethany

My college experience at Texas State University has prepared me to balance my academics, membership in various honor societies, volunteer work, and internship. Texas State University has provided valuable outside opportunities such as: Tennis Club which advanced to Nationals in North Carolina my sophomore year, membership the Accounting Club, Beta Alpha Psi. The valuable education from the McCoy College of Education is due to the amazing professors who have prepared and encouraged me which lead to my internship with the government as an Internal Auditor. My success at Texas State University has been provided through these networks with fellow business students and faculty. My continuation at Texas State University to complete my Masters of Accountancy and successful completion of the CPA exam will provide me great success in my career.

Jessica

From my college experience I have made many great friends and gotten to work with some of the most intellegent proffessors. Mostly the hands on experience and learning in my feild of interest has been the most fulfilling part of my education. Texas State has so much to offer students in the Mass Comm field, radio station, television station and the newspaper. All of which are easy to get involved in and teach you real world things that can't just be conveyed in a classroom. Another way that this school has been very valuable to me is through helping find quality internships, which can be a challenge today, Charles Kauffman is the head of that department and you couldn't ask for better assistance in the process. My time at Texas State has been valuable because I believe I have learned enough, if mot more to succeed in the real world.

Chelsea

During my experience in college i have learned the value of hard work and have been introduced to a new cultural experience. While learning great new information about our world, I am also getting to meet people from all over the country. I believe that this college experience so far has expanded my views and turned me into more well rounded person. I am a health major so going to school and learning about medicines and the human body is always captivating, but in the medical field I have also learned that it can be financially straining. I greatly enjoy this field of work and would love to continue. I have learned so much at this point and I can only imagine what is to come.

Lenaya

I love being around people and feel that when I am done with College I will be able to help alot of people with there Health issues.

Sabrina

Due to the way our economy has recently plunged, many graduates amongst most of society today are struggling with finding employment, let alone in their field of study. I personally am gratefully employed and continue to seek out that career that will allow me to fully utilize the skills I learned throughout my college experience. Going through college not only taught me the fundementals of the path I chose to study, but it also gave me knowledge about multiple avenues that can be explored in the Criminal Justice field and not just where my passion lies within the juvenile corrections area. I have been able to utilize skills learned through school in my daily lives working with both adults and kids, many things that I studied regarding how children develop psychologically has helped me even in my daily learnings with my own daugther. I may have started college at a late part in my life and may not have gotten to experience the "dorm" life if I would have attended earlier, but I feel I received a great education that will take me further in life than if I wouldn't have attended.

Katie

I have a BFA in visual arts from Louisiana State University. Now, 10 years afterI received my degree from LSU, I'm retuning to school for a degree in communication design. My favorite part about being back in schoo is sharing ideas with others like me. I enjoy being in a creative enviroment and the competition created while learning about new programs. I enjoy spending time with my professors and be able to pick their brains. I hope to learn as much as possible while in school, to get an intership and then eventually find a job in the communication design field. I feel that Texas State is a great place to prepare me for what's next in my future.

roxanne

To describe my college experience so far with only a few words would not do it justice. I love all of the interesting people that I have met throughout my three years thus far. I can't wait to study abroad in the summer and to join to peace corps and get my master's international degree through it. College is an experience that I think that every person should be required to experience. College makes you grow up, it shows you a portion of what it is like to be in the real world and being able to make friends with both students and professors. I can't even comprehend how different that I would be if I were to be thrown out into the real world after high school. They say in high school that everything they do is to prepare you for college, but in reality, high school is almost nothing like college. I would not recommend someone miss out on the amazing experience that college has to offer; although it has its' expenses, I think that they are well worth it in the long run.

Chevonne

When I became pregnant with my son, I realized the value of an education. I knew I needed to make a better life for my family, and I chose to do that by going back to school. Texas State University (Round Rock Campus) has allowed me the freedom to choose clases that fit my lifestyle, and help me to be a better student. I enjoy interacting with my fellow students and teachers, and plan to attend a post- graduate program as well. I have truly gained a love of learning, and a drive to achieve more from life. I can't wait until I am abe to put my knowledge into practice in the job field, and to use the knowledge I have obtained to help others in their life struggles. I take home every day the will to continue to do better and achieve more from my learning experience. As well, I take home the knowledge that I am making myself a better wife, mother, and overall person just by getting an education, not just to get a better job or make more money. By becomming and educated person, become a better influence on those around me.

Jessica

College is not what most people make it out to be. It is exciting, full of new experiences and stressful, and these are the things that mold a person into who they are later on in life. For me, college has been a valuable experience because it has increased my confidence, awareness and has helped me to become more responsible. Confidence is important in almost any situation, from daily life to obtaining and occupation. By simply placing myself in a new city and environment, I was forced to quickly obtain confidence if I ever planned on being involved or making new friendships. With involvement and classes came awareness about the world, society and our ecosystem. I have obtained knowledge about these things and more, most of which I would not have had I chosen not to go to college. As well as gaining confidence and awareness, I have also become more responsible. This is due to classes and rigorous schedules that force students to always plan ahead and be prepared. My college experience has only just begun, and I have already grown so much.

Julia

My first year of college I attended Grove City College, a Christian school in Pennsylvania. While I attended that college I was immensely challenged both academically and spiritually. The classes were very vigorous and kept me busy. Although the classes were very difficult I learned more than I could have imagined. I never studied as hard as I did my freshman year. However, my parents got separated and the tuition was too expensive so I transferred to Carroll Community College to save money. I didn't expect the college to be as difficult as Grove City College, but I expected it to challenge me. In my basic level Sociology class and Special Education class I have not been challenged whatsoever, I feel as if I am in middle school when I'm in that class. However, in my English class my teacher challenges my class by having in depth conversations on what we read. In that class my reading comprehension as well as my writing has improved. Also, my geography class is challenging. I am not the best at science so to take the class at a community college level has been very valuable because the curriculum is slower.

Eric

In high school I had a completely different idea of what I wanted to do as a career. Luckily my first year of college I took a class that changed my priorities immensely. I enrolled in an English Fiction class that sparked my love of literature and writing. I will forever attest that epiphany to the class and am extremely lucky I was able to figure that out. Soon after I decided to pursue a Creative Writing degree and am on my way to fulfilling that goal. College is a place of ideas where everyone is getting to figure out what their passion is and that one moment holds extreme value for me personally. I am excited to graduate and do for a living something I absolutely love.

Ryan

As a first year at Beloit I have already obtained so much out of my college experience. The ability to take on the world by myself and see what I am really made of has made my college experience so valuable. Part of finding out what I am really made of has been playing for the NCAA division three men’s soccer team at Beloit College. Having a disappointing season and loosing games at home in overtime against conference rivals have really put a great deal of stress on the team. Many people would quit a team when faced with a losing season but I was able to stick through it and take that with me past college. Also I have been faced with many interactions with people I would of never of met if I had not attended such a diverse college as Beloit. Meeting all of these people and being surrounded by great professors I have increased my ability to cooperate with others and become ready for the “real” world. Along with this I will obtain sufficient experience with the tools that our used in the profession that I seek after college through the college’s chemistry department.

Jessica

From attending Texas State Universtity I have really learned how much one must really be responsible for one self. We do not have our parents to baby us no more and our professors do not just give you a grade you must earn it. Its been a valuable experience because I really get to know the real me and how I am and where I want to go in life and along the way I have met the greatest friends I can ever meet. Ive learned that education is really important and thats something no one can take away from you and that in order to get somewhere you must really try and have that drive to get there. Thats what I have learned through my college experience.

Going to college has overall contributed to a lot of the growing up I have done in the past two and a half years. Just leaving your parents house and going out into the world to go to college is a big step. Just being in college has helped me on my path to success. It has enabled me to come out of my shell a bit more and get involved with my community. I has also met and made some lifetime friends from all over the state and country. If I hadnt gone to college I would be down a very different path with a not so good future. Going to college is like a step towards totally freedom and introduction into the real world and prepares you for when you get out and go off to be completely independent and a "real adult". I honestly couldn' t imagine not going to college after high school. My plan has always been to graduate high school, goin to college and graduate, then get a good job, get married and have children and be happy. :)

Stacey

My college career thus far has shown me the importance of learning and mastering the fundamentals of my degree. As a computer science major I have to take a lot of programming and math courses. What these subjects have in common is that the material is cumulative. If I do not understand algebra and arithmetic, then I will not easily understand calculus. If I do not comprehend algorithms and binary, then there is a high probability that I will not be able to write a program in Java. My college experience has made me realize that it is important to always remember the roots and basics. No matter how tedious finding the derivative of a trigonometric function is or how many nested if statements I have in my program, there is no way I can correctly execute both unless I refer back to my foundation. Learning a great deal about my craft, perfecting my skills as a programmer, and meeting people with similar interests as my own are all reasons why I think attending college has been so valuable for me.

Christina

I've learned a lot about photography during the time I've been enrolled. There is a history behind photography that has given me a new perspective on the art and driven me to pursue it further. A camera can give you the power to capture a moment in time and stop history in its tracks, or find something in someone that they can't see themselves. My college experience has given me more than just time in a classroom and an excuse to study -- it has revealed information and tools that fuel my passion for the art of the camera.

Hannah

I have gotten a new found feeling of responsibility. The idea sounded scary as a high schooler, and yet now that I'm on my own, the responsilibity feels fulfilling. I am responsible for my attendence, for my own grades, and for managing my own money, and when I succeed, the pride is overwhelming. I'm sure most new college students experience this feeling of self-worth, regardless of which university they attend, but there is just such a positive and encouraging atmosphere at Texas State. It's as if the community is telling me that, yes, I DO have what it takes to succeed, and I CAN reach my dreams. And because of the amazing academic programs that Texas State has to offer, I have no doubt in my mind that I am being well prepared for the world that awaits me when I graduate.

Corene

I have received the love of learning. I started as a Sociology major and switched to Education. My professors had all been previous teachers and so their joy and background really gave me a strong sense of encouragement in my final years. I knew that if I had any questions they would be able to help me. The intern programs for education are very involved in the school districts around the campus that gave the students a good sense and feel of real world teaching. The program set me up to be a knowledgeable new teacher in the field. It provided me with skills that set me apart from other teacher grads from other schools. I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.83. I plan on attended graduate school to continue my love of teaching with Educational Psychology.

Tanner

I have gotten a lot of valuable experiences throught my stay at Texas State university. One thing that I would say that is great is that I have a sense of belonging. I feel that everyone at my school is really friendly and appreciates each other, nobody really hates anyone.

Brionne

I've learned through my experience with college to challenge myself. I've always been very intelligent, so I've used my intelligence as an excuse not to work too hard. Instead of doing just enough, I'm taking more than 15 hours a semster, every semester, and I'm classified as a Junior after only 2 semesters. College has been valuable to me in many ways, but mostly because it's made me grow up quickly. No one is taking care of me daily, so it's incumbent upon me to handle my finances, my school work, and my domestic responsibilities. College haas also been valuable for me because it's helped me develop socially. You're forced to make your own friends here, and it can be pretty scary for introverts like myself. You have to learn to be confident and to trust yourself. Most of all, college has been valuable in giving me the tools and resources (a degree, eventually) to be successful in life. In getting my degree, I'll be a productive citizen able to take care of myself, but also I'll set a good example for African-American women everywhere.

Stephanie

What I have gotten out of my college experience so far is that if you work hard and really put your mind to something you can do it. To me it’s making good grades in a difficult class or getting a degree. I have always had to study and work hard for school in order to get the grades I want. I am dyslexic and with a little hard work and perseverance I have taken many college classes and made mostly A’s and B’s. I have made a couple C’s but I know I did the best I could in that class. What I have learned from my college experience is to not give up my dream is worth it.

Lydia

I have learned from my college experience the basics of life( English, Math) and in my degree of culinary arts, how to cook and make a healthy meal. It has been valuable to attend right out of high school, this way I am more aware of the options that I have in this world and for my life. I am at a place right now where I do not know what to do with my life or career. I want to go to Rosedale Bible College to get a better foundation in my faith, and that way I can find where in life I should be. I very much feel called to be a missionary. I have recieved from my experience in college the knowledge that to be a missionary I need more knowledge to be safe and prepared for the world. It's valuable to attend, if I want to survive in a missions field where people are murdered for their faith. My degree in culinary at Sinclair Community College is valuable to me, because where ever I go, I can help the people there learn to farm, find food, and prepare it in a healthy way!

Anastasia

My college experience opened me up to new people and ways of thinking. I gained a lot of independence and confidence and that needed. I started community college when I was 18, but I did not feel like an adult until I transfered to Texas State at 21. Interacting with my fellow Bobcats, finding me way around campus, going to campus events, all helped me to discover who I was as an individual. I will always be grateful for that experience.

Muctarr

Mange my time, and i Should not play around with my classes. This helps me to focus more, and organize my class works, and personal life.

Cara

The college experience isn't just about learning through classroom lectures day after day, but moreso learning how to become a responsible member of society. There is no way I could say the only thing I learned from going to college is how to square a function or write a grammatically proper essay. College experience is life experience, and one learns this only by experiencing college life themself. Living on campus and socializing with other fellow Bobcats taught me how to adapt to living comfortably with others I would consider quite contrastive. My roomate and I had complete opposite sleeping schedules. (I went to bed at 10pm and she at 6am) We had to come to terms on how we would both live comfortably without impeding on the other's needs. I also had to learn to work effectively with other peers for work assignments and study groups in order to obtain the "good academic standing" I need in order to progress toward my personal goals of entering the Music Production Field. Through my experience at Texas State, I can genuinely admit that the college experience aims to make good citizens out of young, inexperienced adults such as myself.

I have learned a great deal and continue to learn both in and out of the classroom. I have been learing how the hard work, dedication and persistence will pay of. I have done some real growing up in the college setting and learned some valuable life lessons. This will make me a better person both in future classes and out in the professonal work place. I have l made some really nice more than likly life long friends while attenting college. I have seen many setbacks and roadblocks along the way and have learned that they will happen and just deal with them as they happen that is partly what college has taught me and also to look and learn the resources to navigate through the hard times and choices. In the end, nobody can take away my degree that I have earned or the knoweledge that comes with it. I have also realized going to college, and seeing other people that many people have it worse than I do. In seeing that I am thankful and blessed for what I do have and I try to help those people that are not as fortunate.

Nobody tells you how difficult the world is. When I got out of high school, I moved away from home, got my own apartment, and starting a new job, all while trying to juggle school full time. I quickly realized that basic nessesities to life cost much more than I ever dreamed. All of a sudden, I was working more than I was studying, living on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and wishing I had applied for more scholarships. I'm still in school full time, paying my own way, still working 60+ hours a week, and I couldn't be more proud of myself. My college experience has been nothing short of difficult, but once I finish, I'm going to be more prepared than my fellow classmates, because I know what the real world has in store. Its not enough to just go to class. You have to work hard, manage your time, and pay your bills. Once you master reality, you can begin to enjoy your dream. I dreamt of going to Europe for school in the summer. I'll be there at the end of August... ready for anything. Salut! Votre travail sera récompensée!

Having previously experienced family trama, I found that the only way to improve my situation was to acquire a quality education. There were many times when I considered dropping out of college and just working, but I persevered and continued my journey towards my degree. Everyday after graduation I thank God for giving me the wisdom to foresee a better future through higher education. I have been able to acquire several prestigous jobs that I would not have otherwise been able to obtain without my Bacherlor's of Science in Healthcare Administration degree. As a newlywed in the last 3 years of college, I found myself not able to fully experience the on-campus joys of attending athletic events, music concerts or social events. I was a mom early in my marriage and fulfilling the demands of motherhood took presidence over extra-curricular experiences in college. Eventhough I was a mom, I was still a student and made my college experience into a family event. My husband cared for our daughter while I was in class and when it was feeding time, my professors and classmates would allow me to nurse in class. I found that flexibility is vital overall.
