University of Arkansas Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Jenny

Campus safety is terrible.

Andrea

The school size is just right! i love how when i walk to class i always see people that i know, but it's not like i know every single person! Sports are very controversial here and i wish that we were better!

Brittany

I really don't like Arkansas that much. Its just not the same from the schools in Texas. People from Texas seem to be a lot nicer than the people from here. I don't like how the school will ticket and tow over everything. I will be parked outside for 5 minutes so I can run inside my dorm and by the time I come out, my car is gone. Over all this is has been the worst first experience I could have imagined. I am hoping to transfer.

Meagan

I have had a very positive experience so far at the U of A. I feel like the school is just the right size. It is small enough to be connected to professors but big enough to always have something going on, on campus.

Alex

I love the campus here and everything about it. It's so pretty and such a great college town.

Katie

The best thing about the U of A is that it has such a southern charm. People are very plesant to eachother and are very caring. The involvment on campus is very large and the students represent the HOG very well!

Charlie

Arkansas has a beautiful campus and very friendly people. It is really easy to meet people because things are always going on in campus. Also, there are great parties!

ashley

I love Arkansas's spirit. The whole atmosphere of being a Razorback is exciting! I would change parking--we DEFINITELY need more parking and obviously bigger dorms. I think we should expand our campus! I think my school is just right. I could deal with a bigger school, but definitely not a smaller one. I like to be around a lot of people--there's always a possibility of meeting someone new :). People don't really react a certain way when I tell them i attend the U of A. I spend most of my time at my sorority house or at the Grad Ed building.. now that I'm getting into my major classes. I don't go to the library much to study because I think it's TOO quiet. Definitely a college town + more. There are plenty of activities that college students love, and there are also thousands of family homes. The biggest recent controversy that I know of is the recycling rule thing. I don't know much about it. I think Arkansas pride is tip top. I absolutely love going to football games and being decked out in red! Hog fans are the best fans. I will always always remember my experience at the U of A. I will always remember the gorgeous campus, the awesome football stadium, going to baseball games, living in Reid (all-girl dorm), the awful weather change... etc. I think what I will always cherish is my time in Delta Delta Delta. Being in a sorority has helped me realize how lucky I am to have a stable, loving, Christian family. I have become more open-minded to others, and I have also become more confident in myself and standing up to others for what I believe in.

Shawn

Our school's a good size, not extremely large, but definately not little. No one really cares about Arkansas, it's just...Arkansas. Noone from too far away really wants to come here, because of the state's stereotypes. It's definately a college town, Dickson Street's a big deal. But there's really not too much to do there at night unless you can get into the bars. If you go to Arkansas, you ARE a RAZORBACK. There is SO MUCH school spirit here during football season, even if we this year or that year, or you've never been into football or school spirit before. You become a Freshman at the UofA and you know the big player names, and you wear red and white to games. You call the hogs all the time, even unnecessarily, like at a house party, where everyone's drunk, or for the latest band at a concert to come back out. It's pretty ridiculous and silly, but it shows so much pride in the Hogs. Most people spend free time sitting at the Greek Theater on nice days, or playing frisbee on Old Main Lawn. We can't wait for a snow day, or night, so we can take our cafeteria trays and sled down the Dixon Street hill, next to the Greek Theater. Or they go up to Wilson Park, and hang out there.

Kelsey

Arkansas is a beautiful campus that is just the right size. It is also in the center of a college town that get into and supports the school events.

Carly

I think the U of A fits me perfectly. The size of the campus is just right and there are MANY things to get involved in on our campus. There are a ton of clubs and organizations so everyone fits in here. Our school has a lot of pride, which is shown very clearly at all of our athletic events. We always have great turn outs at sports events, greek events and other organizational events.

Whitney

Just the right size. When I tell people I attend Arkansas they think it's exciting, because it's the largest school in the state. The thing that I would change (the is mostly for on-campus/dorm residents) is the quality of food in the cafeterias. There should be more healthy, organic choices than all of the fatty items that are avaliable.

Katie

It is in a college town, Fayetteville, and is very sports oriented. We have some of the biggest stadiums in the world for college sports. It is a very fun town though.

Caitlin

I love the atmosphere of Fayetteville and the entire campus. The only drawback is that parking is absolutely ridiculous.

Ashley

I love Arkansas, as does i think most of the population here. everyone is friendly and conciencious of eachother( people say hi and smile even when they dont know you and everyone holds doors for eachother, etc)

Emily

The best thing about Arkansas is all the nice people. I wouldn't change a thing. My school is just right. When I tell people I go to Arkansas they react like its way in the South, when really, its only three and half hours south. I spend most of my time on campus in the library (yay Mullins!!) Fayetteville is definitely a college town! I don't have much of an opinion about Arkansas' administration because I dont have a lot of involvement with them. We are Hog Wild here!!! One experience I will always remember will be living in the dorms freshman year.

Melodie

I love the University of Arkansas. The atmosphere is amazing and I could not ask for a more perfect school. It is the perfect size, not too big but not too small. The people here are great, and so are the teachers. There is alot of school pride in the state. The University of Arkansas is the largest school in the state of Arkansas and because of that we have the entire state's support.

Mallory

I love this school. It is the perfect size and the perfect town. The only thing I would change is if they offered more classes for each subject because classes fill up FAST!!!

Sarah

Arkansas is the perfect size. I have a lot of friends here from home but I have also been able to meet so many new people. Fayetteville is a great town, but I wouldn't call it a college town. It is just the right size for the school though, with a lot of great restaurants and fun night life. I think AR is a great school and holds high academic standards. I spend most of my time in class, at the greek frat and sorority houses, and in my apartment. I love everything about AR and wouldn't want to go anywhere else!

Tate

The best thing about Arkansas is the spirit and tradition. Calling the Hogs was always the highlight of going to football games with my Daddy growing up. The spirit and atmosphere especially during football season is unparalleled. One experience I will always remember is being present when the ARKANSAS RAZORBACKS DEFEATED THE NO. 1 RANKED LSU TIGERS!!!!!! I can never forget the shock on the crowds faces or leaving that stadium. The one time I was terrified to be wearing my Razorback Red. That experience is one I will never forget, especially being able to spend it with my Sorority Sisters. The most controversial legislation passed by the Administration is one to eliminate all smoking on the UofA campus which will become effective this July. Students will no longer be able to smoke on campus. The regulation of this new rule will be interesting and students are anxious to see the confrontations that may happen. Fayetteville, AR is one of the best college towns in America. Everywhere you turn, you can see Old Main (the original building of our campus) Driving up to Fayetteville, I get butterflies in my stomach every time I see the "hill" and Old Main...I realize I'm back home. Every shop, restaurant, and home has Razorback paraphernalia and all stores and restaurantoffer student discounts. They participate in events held on Campus and are always willing to give donations.

Amanda

definitely a college town, home football games are a big tail, tailgating parties everywhere; basketball games always loud and fun, calling the hogs seems extremely wierd to anyone thats not a razorback fan

Brett

1. The great campus and greek life 2. How far it is from my hometown 3. Just right 4. No particular reaction, its normal to go here from where I'm from 5> I spend most of my time in my dorm, the library, and my sorority house 6. College town 7. good staff 8. I'm not sure 9. Yes, everyone is very spirited 10. Nothing to unusual 11. My initiation into my sorority and the day I moved in 12. School is very tough on alcohol policy

Samantha

The best thing about the University of Arkansas is the rich tradition that is associate with the University. We have so many traditions and rituals that the U of A is known for, such as the calling of the Hogs, Pep Rallies, our Fight Song, and the bond between Alumni and current students. We also have around 17,000 students, so it's small enough to constantly run into friends, but large enough to feel like you see new people everyday. The reason I choose the University of Arkansas - Fayetteville is that the town feedsinto 3 other large surbuban areas, which include major corporations like Wal-Mart, JB Hunt, and Proctor & Gamble, to name a few. So, this "college town" doesn't feel like one at all. There is so much more to it.

Andy

Arkansas is a beautiful state. If you like spending time outside, this is definately the place to be. There are rivers, lakes, moutains, fields, pretty much anything! We have warm summers and cold winters, though I will admit Arkansas weather will keep you on your toes. It has been known to be in the 70's or 80's in the middle of winter, and snow in the spring or summer! My school is the perfect size. Like most people from Arkansas I come from a small town, and Fayetteville gives me the perfect mixture of big city and small town. It is definately a college town, there is never nothing to do! Most of the restaurtants, tanning salons, clubs, ect. have student discounts! The last big controversy came from Housten Nutt leaving Arkansas, and of course D-Mac buying an Escalade. There is a ton of school pride for the Arkansas Razorbacks, in fact in my family if I didn't become a Razorback it would have been some sort of taboo! When you are from Arkansas, you are a true Razorback through and through. The hog call is one of the most distinguished signs of Arkansas! We get a lot of complaints about the crazy weather, but I like to think that when we are getting sick of it being cold, it warms up for a few days to give us a break and vice versa!

Meagan

I like the size of Arkansas. I spend most of my time at the hper.

Stefanie

I love Arkansas. I think they should not have rasied tution because well there are enough football players that will never make the grades and are getting full rides. I am not getting a lot of help in the money area and I need it. There is a lot of Hog pride. Everyone loves the hogs even when they suck. I am glad Houston Nutt left.

Whitney

I think that Arkansas is a little bigger than my taste but what can you expect, I graduated with ninety-six people in my senior class at high school so of course college is gonna be a hugh difference. I think that the UofA's campus is one of the most beautiful campus', the best time to see it is in the fall when all of the trees are turning orange and red. The Arkansas Razorbacks are filled with pride, everyone loves going to sports games and cheering them on.

Jamie

I love UofA. I think it is a great place with great people. The only thing I would change is the parking situation!

Lauren

The best thing about Arkansas is Dickson St. The worst thing about arkansas is the nursing school is pretty bad. Another thing I don't like is how spreed out the campus is and how many hills there are, it makes it very difficult when walking to class.

Bethany

Arkansas is known as the natural state and it's the truth. Arkansas is a naturally beautiful state including MOST of the people who live there. I attend school at the U of A in Fayetteville, AR. It is the perfect size... for me anyway. We are home to the infamous Arkansas Razorbacks!!! Go HOgs! WE have an immense amount of school spirit... the most i've ever seen! Football season is the most exciting. Tailgating is a huge event every Arkansan participates in before the games! Arkansas is an amazing place to live!

Kristen

The best thing about Arkansas is how everyone comes together for the sporting events. Razorback football is really intense and it is a whole day event. One thing I would change about the school is the location. I would put the school closer to Little Rock, because then there would be more things to do. University of Arkansas has a very well known reputation and people are impressed when I say I attend here. On campus I spend most of my time in the library studying. My current goal is to go to graduate or law school, and you need to top grades to get into those schools. The one thing I would change if I could is the food. I'm not personally big on southern food, but if you do like that kind of food this is the place to be. I like healthy food and I would have to say it's hard to find here.

Amy

The school is large, but it is very friendly and I spend most of my time on campus in the dorms or at the Union where there is always something going on. There have been mixed reactions when I tell people that I attend the U of A, but overall its very positive. There is a lot of school pride and everyone here bleeds Razorback Red! There are some unsual things about the campus such as the hidden underground tunnels I have been told exist and that the south tower on Old Main is shorter than the north tower due to its construction in the Civil War.

Kara

Perfect college town! There is always something to do and it is never boring. There is always people around. It is not too big and not to small. You will for sure know someone in every class and that is always nice. Fayetteville is so pretty and fun. There are great local restraunts and shops. It is somewhere in 30 years you can come back and say "Man that was the time of my life!"

Juliana

I love our school. It's so awesome how we can have a smaller university that is much more tight knit than other schools, but we still have awesome sports teams and fans! The learning enviornment is much more personal because the classrooms are smaller. The only bad part about going to school here is when I tell people I go to school here. Most people have the "hillbilly" image of Arkansas in their minds and you can't convince them otherwise! It gets frustrating and the hog/pig jokes are getting old. I would say Fayetteville is mostly a college town. It's nice, but I wish there was a little bit more in the town.

Robyn

I think that The University of Arkansas is a really great place to be. I came here because I felt something that i didn't feel at the other schools that I visited. It is a very inviting place and I think people don't understand that.

Brittany

At the U of A, I feel as if people are genuinely nice and care about what I have to say. I have made some great friends through the various college classes I have taken. I love how big the school is, but also feel like i dont get lost in the crowd too often. There is PLENTY of school pride. Just ask anyone on campus, or in Arkansas for that matter, how to call the Hogs. You will get the standard reply of Woooo PIG SOIEEE!

Cameron

The best thing about Arkansas... the FOOTBALL GAMES! I LOVE our fight song. I think the school is a perfect size because you can have a great group of friends and still know only one person in a class. It has amazing Greek Life as well (TriDelta)! I spend a lot of time between classes at the Union, especially in the Coffee Shop! I have a different group of friends that I like to hang out there with that makes a nice break in my day. The only bad thing about Arkansas... the PARKING!! It's terrible. They're building new dorms where they need a parking garage! The 1000+ students that live around that area already have no where to park. It's miserable, avoiding tickets is impossible.

Sydney

Arkansas is a great campus on of the best things in my opinion is the southern charm that is so evident on campus. I believe the University of Arkansas is just the right size. Usually when I tell people I attend the University of Arkansas people react by saying "How bout those hogs!" or "That is a wonderful university!"

Brittany

The best thing about Arkansas is how pretty it is, especially in the fall. It is a beautiful campus. I would change the parking situation here. It is absolutely ridiculous...as if this school doesn't get enough money, they charge a ton for anything parking related. I think the size of Arkansas is just right. I spend most of my time at the business building on campus or in Kimpel doing homework.

Emily

I love Arkansas. It is a great college town with lots to do with friends. I also like the size of the school because it is small for a state school but has good athletic tradition.

Taylor

The best thing about Arkansas is.... that it is very diverse with many cutural oportunies and clubs to join, and that the school has really great professors.

Cory

I think I will always remember the good times and friends I have made while being in a fraternity.

Emma

I love Arkansas. Coming from Oklahoma, everyone expected me to go to OU or OSU, so people are surprised that I came here. I love my school, and wouldn't change anything about it. I love the fact that everyone who goes here, currently or previously, are strong Hog fans. You can almost always find a stranger walking through walmart that isn't embarrassed to call those hogs, believe me, I've found them. It's an all around good school, and I really feel like I'm learning things.

Tony

The facilities are the best thing about arkansas. i wouldnt know what to change quite yet. school is just right. people are impressed when i tell them i go to arkansas. i spend most of my time in the dorms or classes. college town. arkansas admin. is good. lots of school pride.

Daniel

The best thing about Arkansas is that it is first and foremost a place where education is the most important thing, but having fun comes in a close second. One thing that I would change is the parking arrangement. Honestly, if you're not willing to pay $300/ year than you are going to have quite the hike to your dorm. When I tell people I'm going to Arkansas, being from Arkansas, most people aren't surprised, although many people assume it's easier than it really is. I spend most of my time on campus at my fraternity house. Greek life is a huge part of the experience at U of A, but the good thing is it isn't essential to enjoy your time in college. Fayetteville is an amazing college town. It has all the mystique of the small town, with its town square and street lined with local restaurants and bars. It also has all of the aspects of a big town, with several movie theaters, several WalMarts, and a good mall.

Patrick

The University of Arkansas has a beautiful campus and is rich in history. One thing I would change is the parking situation on campus. The University is a division I school but is quite small compared to other schools with only 18,000 total undergrad and graduate students. People from Arkansas and surrounding states usually agree that Arkansas is one of the leading universities in the region with some of the most advanced facilities. I spend most of my time on campus in the dorms or in class. On the weekends there is no shortage of parties and other activities. Being a wet campus promotes the party atmosphere. Fayetteville is definitely a college town with Bars running up and down Dixon Street and on the square, there are plenty of liquor stores and 18 and up clubs too. The Arkansas administration is dedicated to the advanced development of the University and the well being of the students. The biggest recent controversy has been the tobacco ban going into effect next year, the first in the country for any Flagship university. There is a lot of school pride on and off campus and Arkansas has some of the most supportive alumni around. The most frequent student complaints include parking, housing, and the dining halls.

Paige

School Spirit- Arkansas has excellent school spirit, EVERYONE calls the Hogs it is what U of A is known for. I don't think i would change anything and i do not think it is too large or too small. It fits me perfectly. When i tell people i go to U of A they mostly say, "Oh so your a Hog, Do you yell Pig Soooie?" When i am on campus, i spend most my time in my dorm room, friends dorm rooms, union, or at my sorority house. Fayetteville is defiantly a college town, it does have more to do than other college towns. We have a street known as Dickson street with cute shops, bars, and restaurants. Everyone loves to hang out there! The only complaint i hear about the school the most would have to be from the student who live in the dorms, they seem to always complain about the cafeteria food, but thats a given they are away from there home cooked meals that they are used to having. One experience i will always remember will be going through Greek Rush. It was a crazy time, but also great. I met so many wonderful girls, it is how i met my Best friends today!

Bethany

The best thing about the University of Arkansas is the laid back community. There is a high emphasis on performing well academically, but there is a lot of flexibility in the system. I think the size is perfect. An immense amount of school spirit resides in almost every student here.

Tiffany

Arkansas is just right. Its the big school, big football, active Greek life, big Sec school. However Arkansas is small enough to be personal and to meet really fun amazing people. People think its awesome i go to a big SEC school. college town.administration is really good. a lot of school pride.

Alex

There's a lot of variety and it's not behind in the times. The surrounding town is a bit small though.
