Lots and lots of different clubs to join but the best one by far is the Boxing Club. All the people who are their are cool and its a great way to learn to box.

Social Life at UMass is amazing. Never had I thought it would be so easy to walk up to a person's door, knock, and start up a conversation. Your neighbors know you by name, and are never hesitant to stop by and say hello. The Spring Concert, which is FREE to all students, is usually a very big event in the beginning of May. Last year, Talib Kweli came to perform, and the show was unbelieveable. Not only are the concerts great, but the attendance for the hockey, football and basketball games are outstanding. Every time a big game comes around, the campus is buzzing, and you know what mostly everyone will be up to that night.

I'm involved in the boxing club as well as other academic societies. I believe that the boxing club is a great opportunity for anyone who enjoys fighting and if you are not that type of person then you will enjoy it too. The overall environment is a friendly one, where you can come just for the workout or to train hard if you are really into it. Boxing is by far my number one favorite activity on campus. At times I find myself trying to get all of my work done on time just so I have the chance to go to boxing. I'm very excited because in two weekends we are going to go to Westfield to do some sparring and although it is not an actual fight I feel it is definitely and opportunity for me to show what I've learned so far and to have a very decent fight. I believe that boxing is one of my passions in life and will continue being well after I leave college. And this is why I enjoy every little minute of it and I am so glad that I was able to join the boxing club at Umass Amherst.

umass boxing is a generally new RSO. We are growing and changing rapidly for the better. With continued support and funding, this club will become an elite training and competition program.

One memorable experience I have had @ UMass has been my involvement with the Ski 'N Board Club. I joined in freshman year with a group of floormates from my dorm. This club allowed me to see both Quebec and Montreal--two amazing cities! I skiied for both my Winter and Spring Breaks, and despite a torn ACL in Montreal, I had a great time, and met wonderful people that I would otherwise have never met! As an officer of Psi Chi, the National Honors Society for Psychology students, I have seen this club come out of the dark ages. Membership has been down across the country--it is getting harder and harder to recruit students each year. However, our chapter recently held its annual Induction ceremony and I am happy to report that we welcomed 160 new students into our society! The pride and sense of accomplishment this gives me is priceless--Every student should get involved with some type activity/club--Their experience here at UMass would not be complete without it!

I would seriously recommend that everyone who comes here gets involved in some sort of club or organization. Since there are so many people on campus, getting involved is the best way to not become just a number. There is a lot of partying, mostly Thurs-Sat, but there is generally something going on every night, especially if you live in Southwest. There are a lot of popular sports events going on like football, hockey, and basketball. We are a division 1 school so our teams are pretty good and the games are fun. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area. Northampton is a bus ride away and there's a lot to do there, especially for LGBT people.

At any time of day, there is someone awake, and something to do. Yeah we party, but, we also go to movies, and go bowling, and rollerskating, and play lasertag.

Popularity tends to rank with sports, sororities and fraternities. I am involved with the UMASS POLO TEAM. I have been on the team for two years and we ride horses and play hockey at the same time. Students usually leave their doors open if they are there and it is warm weather. Athletic events are very popular. Guest speakers, theatre are very popular on campus. The dating scene is very prosperous, but I came to this university in a serious relationship and it has been 4 years and going strong, so the university doesnt interfer in that way. I met most of my closest friends freshman year in my dorm and at parties. If I am awake at 2am on Tues I am studying. Each year homecoming is a very big deal, and in spring bowl weekend, and celebrations down at the towers are very big. People party everyday. Last weekend I was on spring break and partying in Boston for St. Patty's Day! You can go anywhere on a saturday night, you don't have to drink. I go out to eat, bars, supermarkets anything really off campus.

Most of the time doors are open, although there are halls where people leave them closed. It sucks being in a small room all the time though and if you leave them open it makes them seem bigger. Guest speakers and such aren't that popular, nor is the theater. Very few people date. Most either have a boyfriend or girlfriend who is steady or they make out one night or something and that's it. I think there are a lot of single people on campus. I met most of my close friends by living on the same floor as them freshmen year. Greek life is stupid and nonexistant to me. None of my friends are involved. It's like paying to have friends when you join those and you end up doing stupid things to be accepted. Last weekend I was athome, but that's atypical..usually i'm hanging out with friends, hitting a bar or a party or going on a date with my boyfriend. Saturday nights without drinking can involve board games, movies in house or at the theater, bowling or just plain channel surfing.

Most of my friends I have met in the dorm environment. Living in the dorms I felt was exciting and fun. Everyone leaves their doors open, and you can easily just talk to people in the hallways until late at night.

Vox: Students for Choice is an extremely large and influential group on campus. They hold an event called "Sex on the Lawn" in the middle of campus every year where they give out free stuff like different forms of birth control, candy, food, and informational brochures on topics like safe sex. They also have fun activities to learn about different things. I personally go to most athletic events, and I wish they were more popular than they are. There are a lot of games where they give out free tshirts to the first 2000 students or so, and those games tend to be very popular, but on a normal game day there is not a very large student fan base. I would say that guest speakers and theater events are even less popular, but there are still many events like this offered if you are interested in that. I met my closest friends now during my freshman year living in the dorms (we are all seniors now). I've also met friends through work and classes. The dating scene is also very good since there are so many students here. You can meet people at class, at parties, at the bars once you're old enough, or through friends. I would say that if you like to party, you can pretty much always find a good one around here, but if that's not your thing, there are plenty of people who don't party. There are a lot of fun things that the university offers on the weekends or you can make up your own things like game night. Fraternities and sororities are not important at all at UMass - you definitely don't have to join one unless you want to. Last weekend I relaxed a little, went to a community service event in a nearby city, was in a play called The Vagina Monologues, and attended a men's basketball game.

biggest organizations marching band and ski+board club. no one leaves their doors open cept for all freshman floors and attention whores. people party thursday friday and saturday-typical college, nothing more nothing less. theres not much to do besides drink on sat night besides joining the guitar hero club. frat suck. sororities suck. dont become a sucker. off campus northampton is the place to be.

Your only hope is to shrink the school. Join a team or club. if you cant make varsity join a club team. i joined club rugby and it is saving my experience here. You actually know peoples names and you get to stay in shape. You also get the social aspect of partying with them on the weekends and after games.Everything involves drinking here. The frats are gross and there's a lot of violence/sexual harassment problems there. stay away from the frats, join a sports club even if you aren't athletic or you've never done that sport before. the older kids actually help you.
