What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Follow your heart on where you think you should go, don't let anyone but yourself influence your choice. Try new things, go out of your way to meet new people some of them could become your bet friends. Don't judge people for their decisions when you may do the same.

Make sure you vist them! If it doesn't feel right dont go. Look for good extracurricular activies-clubs/inturmural sports. Class sizes if thats something important to you. Location from home /big city or small town. Is there things to do beside just drinking? Do they have what you want to study or maybe want to study. Get involved is one of the biggest things I could suggest, get out of your desk chair and participate, you will be in college now and people are not going to hold your hand anymore. The opportunities are going to be there at most colleges, its up to you to take them!

It is important to be open-minded when choosing a college or university. Always remember that you are the one that will ultimately be affected. Your decision should be based on your needs as well as your preferences. Make sure you take time to consider all your choices and way the pros and cons. because you are the one that has live the consequences of your decision. Remember while college should be a fun it is ultimately a time to gain knowledge for the future so make your choice accordingly.

Look for something that fits who you are and not necessarily who you want to be. The college should not overwhelm you, yet it should have enough to keep you busy.

Rule #1: There are endless amounts of resources at every university. Use as many of the resources offered to you as possible. You are paying a lot for them! Rule #2: STUDY ABROAD!! No matter what your worries are, there is someone at your school paid to help you through the process. Persevere and you will find the right program for you. Learning about a different culture first hand is an experience that will affect your perspective for the rest of your life. Rule #3: Do not stress out about finishing in four years. Many academic advisors will pressure you to fit your degree plan into four years. Use college as an opportunity to explore all avenues of your interests. Recognize that your personal interests might not fit nicely into one degree plan. I'll be studying abroad at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology this upcoming year. My major is Computer Engineering and I've studied German, French, Spanish, and Chinese. I will be conducting research for the Human Language Technology Center. Despite having been discouraged from learning languages, I've found the perfect fit that encompasses all of my interests. Take control of your future!

When trying to find the right college for you there are a lot of aspects of the school you should consider. First and foremost you should visit a variety of colleges including community colleges, four year colleges and private institutes. When visiting each college immerse yourself into the environment as much as you can and ask questions! If possible arrange an overnight stay to your top choices so you can get a feel of what it would be like to live there. Choose a place that you feel the most comfortable in and one that you will succeed in. If you are undecided on a major, go to a school that offers a variety of majors and easily transferrable credits. To make the most of your college experience get involved with your school! Keep your door to your dorm open as much as you can, especially the first week of the year. This will allow you to meet the other students on your floor and start creating a community you feel a part of. Also take advantage of all of the programs and activities your school has to offer and do not be afraid to try new things!
