University of Pittsburgh-Pittsburgh Campus Top Questions

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

My debate team is like my family- they welcomed me with open arms before I even applied. Plus the school blends with the city forming a unique cultural experience.

Vincent

It's located in the city of Pittsburgh but it feels like a city of its own. Once you've attended the school for a little while you get the feeling that the University is its own little world seperate from the city. The only real reminder that your in a city instead of a college town is the skyline and the two main roads in lower campus.

Chris

Well they are proud of their Cathedral of Learning, so I guess that's pretty unique. Other than that, the campus is built into the urban city and yet not quite, which I like a lot.

Chrissy

Pitt is the best school ever. I have no regrets coming here, and would not change anything about it.

Jo

All in all, it's a great school. It may seem hard to maneuver at first. There's offices all across campus and none of them really talk to each other (admissions, financial aid, student accounts, registration, etc). GET A GOOD ACADEMIC ADVISOR. If you don't like the one you have, get a different one. They can make it or break it. GET INVOLVED. It's how you make friends, network, socialize and build your resume. It's worth it.

Dale

I really wish I had not come to this school. They don't give a crap about their students. It is clear that Pitt is really only interested in their students' money.

Pete

It's a friendly city once again that is not too overwhelming but you will never be bored. It's becoming a better school every year, and you're graduate with a better looking degree than what you originally saw it as. Lastly, there are so many study abroad options. I am going to Buenos Aires next year. Try comparing that to some schools that want to just send you to England, France, Mexico and China. You can go really, anywhere you want.

I thought about leaving Pitt after my first semester. I had trouble finding friends, my major wasn't going well, and my roommate and I did not get along. I stuck it out though, and I am so glad I did. I learned so much about myself and about life my freshman year. I have really grown to love Pitt. My friends are there, my life is there. There are so many resources to help you in any situation. I talked to a lot of helpful people who helped me discover the major that fits me. I talked to a lot of helpful people on the days where it all seemed too hard. Sometimes at a larger school it is easy to feel like a number, not a student. I have felt that way. But there is always something to remind me that it not true, seeing a friend in the hallway, or waving to a passing professor between classes. Pitt is it.

Trevor

When living on campus, you're always near a great network of people and physical resources. I didn't need to buy a printer, because I was always near computer labs, which are open 24/7. The food is excellent. Pitt spent a whole lotta money on their new Market Central dining facility, and the money was well spent. Come and visit the campus, just for the food there. Don't come here because you love the football and/or basketball team, and want to hang out with the players. The only time you'll see them is between the first and fourth quarters. Sutherland Hall is wonderful. It's high up on campus, and a little far from classes; but the Pitt shuttles will take you to class, and the rooms are bigger, newer, and better than most on campus.

it rains a lot in pittsburgh, and when it's not raining, it's probably cloudy. but for some reason, that doesn't get people down, it's more of a sense of humility that grows in you. And you appreciate the sunny days a lot more when they do come around. it's a lot of fun at pitt, the people are good, cool people. Whenever i go home, i can't wait to come back, because it's so much more fun sitting in your own house, with your friends, even if you're just watching tv.

April

No - I had a much, much better experience at Penn State

Pitt's football stadium is the same one as the Steelers so it's annoying to have to go on the bus to get to the games. The security is really strict at the games so you can't drink down at the stadium. The Pitt football team is really bad too so nobody goes to the games. We have the Oakland Zoo though and our basketball team rocks and so does the Peterson Events Center which was built about 10 years ago and is really sweet and the gym there is sweet too. I love Pitt so much and have wanted to go here since I was a little girl. It definitely has been everything I hoped it would and more. I made some of my best friends, my boyfriend, and have ad so many experiences that I would have never had if I had not come here!

In conclusion, I could not have asked for a better University than the University of Pittsburgh. I was very close to going to Carnegie Mellon-- in fact I thought I had made up my mind to attend. It wasn't until the weekend I spent at Pitt, however, that I came face to face with something that most other schools were severely lacking: a kind, generous, motivated, diverse community of students. I feel that I have become an integral part of this incredible community and only hope to strengthen my role and my contributions over my next three years at Pitt. Never have I felt more alive, more able, more successful, more social or more part of a close-knit, world-changing community. I am so thankful to be blessed enough to attend such a phenomenal University.

Darren

Honestly, I feel that the quality of the girls at Pitt are lacking. I think Pitt is not academically selective enough to get those really good looking smart girls, but is too difficult to get the good looking but not as smart girls. I have found the girls down south are much better looking.

Lets talk about market central. It looks so enticing and so promising when you first see it. And when you get there, eating there is awesome for about a week. Then they start making the same food over and over again and you learn when you're eating leftovers and it takes forever to get food. Basically once all the parents are gone, they stop caring. Do not make market central a large part of your decision making when choosing a college. It's not worth it.

Jaren

I hate frat guys.

Jordan

there is a lot of the typical idiot attitude, as can be found on any campus, but overall, i found my experience at pitt to be pleasant.

Lynn

Administration at Pitt school of nursing is frustrating, even though the people are nice- it's just very unorganized. I've never had to work with financial aide office. There are lots of places to get tutoring & resume help if needed. Overall, it's a good school- anywhere you go there good & bad.

Chrissy

I truly love the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and would recommend it to just about anyone!

Alex

The Sig Ep fraternity drugs girls. Pitt cops are great when you have a problem. It rains a lot. Pitt's airport is really nice. When the weather is nice, there are 2 places to go and hang out and play in the grass or hang with friends if you want to!

Ryan

Pitt is has a great reputation academically and is getting better every year. If I had to do it all over again I would certainly come back. Here is certainly the most accurate college advice I have heard: CHOOSING A MAJOR: If you want to get a good job, make good money, and not work too hard in college, major in business. If you want to make a ton of money and are willing to work your butt off in college, study engineering, law, or medicine (but not nursing). If you want to love what you do and coast through college, (but always be on the hunt for a job after graduating, while having to work your butt off just to make ends meet): study writing, journalism, religion, fine art, theater, or broadcasting. This is also an excellent road to travel if you eventually want to become a sad, broken down college professor some day. If you're just in it for the tail and want to meet lots of hot babes, study nutrition, fitness, or broadcast journalism. You won't make a ton of money, but you'll always work with a lot of women with hot bodies in the industry.

Hail to Pitt...717 fo life...f state penn...

Jessica

Pitt's fun but you should really know yourself before you go or you're just going to end up being a big partier. If that's what you're looking for though party on.

Jessica

I absolutely love the University of Pittsburgh. Transferring was the best decisions I could have ever made for my academic career. The university has allowed me to meet tons of interesting people and I really do believe that my education is worthwhile.

Paige

The pitt program council is one of the biggest organizations on campus, yet they do a disservice to the university each year. They program large, yet unsuccessful events with performers and speakers who most people do not care to see. The best 2 concerts in the past 8 years were Lupe Fiasco and Ben Folds. Lupe Fiasco was held at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse because the director of the Pitt Program council was afraid to have a black performer do a show outside. Each year they host Bigelow Bash (spring) and Fall Fest (fall) which features a singer or band who has either passed their prime (Jason Mraz, Live, the Clarks) or bands that people do not have any interest in to begin with (SR-71, some female singer who i can't even remember the name).

Victor

Experience at Pitt was great. And Pitt has professors that are much better than what CMU has to offer, even in the technical departments.

Alex

Overall, Pitt is just okay.

Leah

I love Pitt.

Rob

Hail to Pitt!
