Tell us about the food and dining options.

There are two major dining halls on campus, two major cafes, a food court in our events center and a smattering of coffee/sandwich carts. The food in our major dining halls is actually decent and there are a ton of options, even for vegetarians like me. The main dining hall is also really good about accommodating special dietary needs - there are vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, kosher, and halal options. Our dining services is also really receptive to new suggestions - there is a committee of students that routinely meets to give suggestions, and most of the time the dining hall delivers on them. Despite how surprisingly good it is, students, especially freshmen, will get tired of it, but there are more dining options than you can count on 2 hands within just a five-minute walk from the main dining hall - a plus about being in a city! Lots of them are relatively cheap too, and many of the restaurants right near campus make their menu, partly or entirely, half-off after 10 or 11 at night... which is great because the one thing that on-campus dining lacks is late hours. Only the main dining hall is open in the later hours of the night, but most of its options are closed then.

There are many food and dining options Pitt offers. There are two main "cafeterias" that hold every food under the sun, and then several smaller places to eat throughout campus. Also, Pitt has agreements with several restaurants throughout Oakland. You will never go hungry!
