Make sure the student feels that they truely fit into that particular environment and that they want to be there. Get involved to make the most of your college experience, while making friends at the same time. Its a great way to get away from studying so much to have some fun.

When looking for a college, make sure the environment is fitted to your expectations, not your parents or anyone else. If you are a suburban person, don't pick a urban located college. Also, think carefully of what life will be like in that environment. In rural areas, it's going to be difficult to get around without a car; and in urban areas, you will be hearing city noise everywhere. Remember, you are the one who is going to be living on that campus for, hopefully, four or more years. Also, the college's academic studies should appeal to you, not your parents. The only way of finding the right college for yourselve is to ask yourselve what you want. The most important advice that I would give to someone is visit the campus and the facilities before you send that acceptance reply. Last thing you want in your first year is to regret picking the wrong place. In your first year, it's important to make friends with your classmates and upperclassmen. They are the people who will make your college experience a good one. Go out and have fun, but remember to choose your priorities carefully.

Make sure you visit the campus and talk to students, not just the students doing tours but actually students who are walking around. What they have to say is much different than the brochures.
