What's to say about the sports at UW madison? They're second to none. We're a faithful bunch and most students (male but also some female) follow the schedule and stats of our team. I love basketball and the Kohl center is jumping for games. Camp Randall is an amazing football stadium as well.
The sports scene is there if you want it and not if you don't. Being a division one university the sports teams are of the highest college caliber. There is definitely school spirit here, there will be plenty of people walking around wearing red on the day of a big game be it football, basketball, or hockey. The great thing is that the student body here at UW Madison is big enough that not everyone has to watch the sports in order for there to be a huge student group participating. As a result there are plenty of students who do get really into the sports scene, but there are also plenty of students who don't.
Because we're a Division I school, to make a school team for a sport here you must be VERY competitive in your sport. For those who are more casual athletes or for those who have always wanted to try a particular sport but have never had the opportunity, there are intramural sports and club sports. We have archery, water polo and everything in-between, including a few things you wouldn't think of such as Quidditch and juggling. For intramural sports you sign up as a team, practice on your own and then compete against other teams. For club sports, whoever also signs up for the sport and pays the dues is also on your team and each sport sets up its own practices and competes against other schools.
You can't say Badger Pride without thinking of our football team. RB Monte Ball just got nominated for the Heisman and we're going to the Rose Bowl for the second year in a row. All of Wisconsin's athletics are exceptional, from track to rowing to basketball, and we take a lot of pride in that. Football Saturdays are always a big fun event with people tailgating and all the songs and chants at the game.
Coming from Boston, I'm used to cheering for winners. Thus far, I have not been disappointed by the Badgers. I'm a rabid sports fan, with passion that borders on insanity at times, and yet, that passion is reverberated by most of my fellow students. Camp Randall is famous for being the most raucous stadium in Big Ten football, to the point of getting us in trouble. Our credit union debit cards are emblazoned with "Jump Around", our infamous 4th quarter ritual. Our players and coaches have rewarded us with consecutive trips to the Rose Bowl. Our basketball team is a shoe-in for the NCAA tourney every year and our head coach Bo Ryan has experienced unprecedented success, setting a home win percentage that rivals the best in history. I have rushed Camp Randall after beating #1 Ohio State and rushed the Kohl Center court after knocking off #5 Duke -- jealous? You should be. This school has an amazing athletic department that spares no expense to win and create fun and enjoyable experiences for true fans.
Although not an athelete, or interested in atheletics myself, I could hardly miss the immense passion that UW Madison as a whole has to support the teams here on campus, especially the Badgers, the local football scenes.
