Xavier has an orderly system of advisors for their students. It also as a strict plan within each program that ensures the student will graduate on time. It strongly advocates communication between peers and professors. There are always people around to help, whether it?s subjects concerning school, jobs, finances, or counseling. The staff and faculty are friendly and make it easy to get along with everyone. The campus is smaller than most universities so this allows for closer interaction among students and professors. Also, it?s hard to lose your direction going from one class to the next.
Compared to the other schools, Xavier is much more hands on. Even before registering they kept up with us and had events extra events for both the students and parents. For example, they had a week called "Laginape Weekend" which was basically a early orientation in the summer. They had events planned for the whole weekend for both parents and students and basically gave us a taste of the school and the city of New Orleans. They told the parents before they left they would keep an eye on me and til this day they still do.
Compared to other schools that I have considered, Xavier University of Louisiana is a private insituition with an acceptable student to teacher ratio. It is very small compared to other universities, such as the University of South Alabama, Auburn University, and the University of Alabama. Comparing my choices, Xavier University of Louisiana is the best choice for my field of study. The university has a pharmacy program that could help me become a successful pharmacist in less than eight years.
Xavier is very unique in that it is not as big as most universities, but the school spirit that all of the students have exceeds that of any school that has double the amount of students that we have. Although it is a prodominately African American school, there are many other ethinicities that attend Xavier. Xavier University's surroundings are very unique because it is New Orleans, which has so much to offer on its own, and many other great cities that are not too far away.
Compared to other schools, Xavier is unique because from the moment you step onto the campus, you are surrounded by caring individuals. Campus Tours and Freshman Orientation are led by Peer Deans- enthusiastic, encouraging student leaders. Teachers are always willing to assist you. Though the academics are rigorous, the encouragement, motivation, and assistance you will recieve from faculty and staff along the way makes success not only possible, but almost inevitable.
What is unique is that the school is the only historically black and Catholic school in the Western Hemisphere. Due to this, there are strong work ethic values placed on the heads of students, and we proudly accept this. The students, professors and administration make the school so unique, with all the different ethnicities and everyone is an individual. I would make the same decision if I had to do it over again.
My school is the only Catholic Historically Black College/ Univeristy in the Nation. With that in mind, Xaiver has a common creed and respect from that foundation. Alothough Catholisim is not enforced upon all of the facuility and students, Xavier tries to promote us to think outside of the box when it comes to diversity and other ways to achieve our career goals.
Xavier University of Louisiana is the only black, Catholic University in the United States. This does not limit it to Catholic or black students. There is an aura of success that follows Xavier students throughout their lives. There are a number of cultures and races that represent students there and it is great to see the mixing of these cultures.
It is located in New Orleans and is largely focused on Engineering and Pre-Professional programs such as Pre-Medicine . There is a also a significant amount of research done by faculty and students.
Xavier tailors their education to MAKE sure that you will succeed in any graduate program that you may attend. The teachers make extra efforts and opportunities to help you understand the material.
