Number of Awards & Eligibility: Four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  2. Must be enrolled in a graduate program involving thesis work.
  3. Must be studying Montessori teaching methods at an approved university.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for graduate students who are enrolled in an accredited Montessori teacher education program.

Application requirements for the Montessori Dissertation & Thesis Awards are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: Each year, the American Montessori Society honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the Montessori Movement. The Montessori Dissertation & Thesis Awards are provided annually to graduate students who have published graduate-level work within the last calendar year. Submissions should emphasize thesis works that further the understanding of Montessori education.

Award Amount: $500 and $1,000 awards are provided for outstanding doctoral theses, and $250 and $750 awards are provided for two oustanding master's theses. All awards are provided on a one-time basis and are non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information about this award can be found online at the American Montessori Society website. To apply, students must submit the following items: A hard copy of your dissertation or thesis; an additional copy on a flash drive (or disk); contact information such as full name, postal mail address, and e-mail address. All materials must be received by postal mail no later than the deadline date.
