Brigham Young University-Provo Top Questions

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Jordan

People who are very liberal would not like this school. People who do not like cold weather would not this school. Also, people who get easily offended by others with strong religous views should not attend.

Phil

Students, who do not want to live high conservative standards, such as not drinking, smoking, and pre-maritial sex. This isn't a party school. There aren't drinking parties on the weekends. The students have fun, simply don't get drunk. If the student likes these sorts of activites than this school is defiantly not the right choice for her/him.

Jenni

People who expect not to study and people who are not tolerant

Josie

This is a private university run by the LDS or Mormon church and, as such, a large percentage of the faculty, students and subject matter are LDS oriented. There is also a strict honor code, dress code and it is a dry campus. any who has a problem with any of these things should not attend BYU.

Sarah

Close-minded, frat boys or sorority girls

David

People that party with different substances definitely shouldn't come to BYU for its party scene. Its also not a place to think that its a free pass, you must work hard.

Steele

A person without morals, hard work ethic, and self discipline

Robert

Slacker

Christine

students who are serious about their religion and their academics. Students who want to learn, get a good job, and then return to help the university to become even better. They also need to be pretty conservative in their morals and political belifs.

Jordan

Extreme Liberals and homosexuals

Jane

A person who enjoys alcoholic parties and easy schooling. A person who likes to cheat or does not do well with the Mormon religion.

Sam

Someone who does not want to follow the strict honor code enforced by the school

Rachael

Someone who refuses to respect the rules of the school. Any person addicted to drugs, alcohol, or sex.

Missie

The type of person who should not attend this school, is one who doesnt like structure or rules. We have a lot of rules in this school, such an honor code that declares that no one will have premarital sex, or will do drugs, drinking, or view pornography. We also have a stict dress code where we can't show too much skin; and to dress decently. If a person doesnt like paramaters and regualtions, this is not the school for them.

Jean

Anyone who is either super liberal, into alcohol, drugs, sex, homosexuality, or pornography. Just because there's an honor code here and the last 5 things mentioned aren't allowed. By super liberal I mean that you can come but you might be super frustrated by the conservative seemingly close-minded people here. No slackers either-- courses are difficult.

Megan

Anyone who wants to drink, do drugs, or wear tanktops.

Brinai

Everyone is welcome, but someone who looks at college as a time to party will be miserable here. We're known for being stone-cold-sober and dedicated to what we're doing.

David

Anyone who doesn't like mormons

Katherine

Someone who wants to drink and party a lot, someone who isn't academically focused or who isn't willing to follow rules of Honor Code.

Tanner

Someone not willing to work hard. Those that aren't willing to respect others and don't have a sense of honor.

Tim

Someone who is looking for a party school or a free ride through college. One of the star football players on our team was suspended from the team for not complying with academic standards, so there is no sympathy for those who do not do the work necessary to do well in school. Someone who is not motivated should not come to this school.

Stephanie

There is a very strict honor code and dress code here. If you are the kind of person that likes to dress and act differently than is described in that honor code, consider going elsewhere. It is very annoying to have someone who signed that document and knew what they signed up for complain to the rest of campus. It is part of the experience and it is part of what makes BYU the way it is.

Shelly

someone that does not respect other religions. anyone who is looking for a free ride.

Ashley

I think BYU is a very accepting Univeristy. Anyone who loves enjoying life and working hard would be happy at BYU. Some people might think that you have to be LDS (Mormon) to fit in, but that's not true. Students will or won't like you b/c of your character and personality, not your religion.

Nat

A rabidly liberal, pro-homosexual lifestyle, obnoxiously tree-hugging, hardcore aethist. The biggest thing is people have to have a positive attitude.

Candace

Someone who is not prepared to work hard and demand attention from their professors. The school is very large and the professors are usually overwhelmed between their students and research so you have to be a very involved and proactive student to succeed.

Steve

People who like to drink, smoke, do drugs, or have premaritial sex definitely should not attend this school.

James

Anyone liberal or who doesn't want to live a clean life.
