California State University-Sacramento Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Rebecca

I would have to say the worst thing is the amount of classes that are being offered. With the current economic state our campus has been forced to drop classes so it has become very difficult to enroll in the classes that you need to graduate on time.

Gabriel

One of the bad things about my school is that it is known as a commuter school. Many people that attend my school go there, attend class, study with some classmates, and then leave either to home or work. By six o’clock, the vibe of the campus is very mellow. I barely see people walking around or in the library because by this time everyone has left. Another bad thing about my school is that most of the buildings are very old and a rugged looking.

Brett

I would consider the parking the worst thing about my school. But then again, when isn't parking somewhat of an issue?

Chyna

I consider the current budget cuts and the increasing tuition fees the worst thing about Sacramento State University right now because it makes it really hard to continue my education with the little financial assitance i have. Many of us students are forced to depend on our parents financially until we graduate, even though they are not always in a finacial situation to help. Even then we are still put in a situation where we graduate thousands of dollars in debt.

Tatiana

I don't consider that there is anything wrong with my school. Its a beautiful well maintained campus that pushes one to succeed in life.

Deborah

The price! for parking for classes, books everything! and the food they serve is mostly all fast food, they need healthier options.

Diana

Many students aren't aware of the services and oppotunities CSUS offers. I believe if the school were to promote more its services, more students would take advantage of it. However, there's that question of MERIT, as well; those who seek, will succeed.

Silvia

The worst thing about my school is tuiton fees. Although I get financial aid, it is not enough for my books and other expenses. I believe that the CSU system should decrease tuiton fees and make our education more affordable.

Melina

The student population at CSUS is so large, that it makes it difficult to meet new friends. Upon graduating from high school, I had this image of myself meeting a new group of friends that I would go out with on the weekends and spend significant amounts of time with outside of the classroom. To make friends at my school, it is critical to get involved in extracurricular activities. Otherwise, most of the people you meet will merely be temporary class study buddies for that particular semester and the next semester you will likely never see them again.

Eliza

I think the worst part about going to California State University, Sacramento is availability of parking for students. There is more parking for teachers and staff than there are students. It usually takes at least 30 minutes to try and find an available parking space. Which makes getting to class on time VERY difficult.

Cassidy

The worst thing about CSUS is the location. I say location specifically because the area of Sacramento CSUS resides in can be unsafe.

Jason

The worst thing about Sacramento State has to be the costs and cuts to the school. I pay over double what I used to pay for a full time load when I started at a four year university. Furthermore, some of the teachers have had to take furlough days or classes have had to be cut to accomodate the low amount of money that the college is able to provide for each program. Our costs are high, but some of our classes and teachers are being cut.

Catherine

I would say the worst thing about Sac State is its administration. You have to jump through hoops to get the simplest things done, like transferring community college classes over to your transcript. I had a tricky time with the Financial Aid department especially. They asked me for a number of forms, which I filled out and handed over in good time. They then claimed that they did not have everything they needed, put a hold on my record, and asked me to resubmit the forms. I stood firm though, and they took away my hold.

Rebeca

Classes fill up quickly so it's difficult to get the classes we need, and tuition has gone up A LOT since I was a freshman.

Jen

The cost. If there is ever another answer to this question, I'd love to know what it is. The cost of college is appalling. It's amazing that the poverty level in the U.S. isn't worse than it is.

Jessica

The worst thing I consider about my school is the quality of food that is served in our Dining Commons. Every time I finish eating my meal my stomach hurts and I become extremely tired. When it first started happening, I thought I was the only person who did not enjoy the quality of food. However, several of my peers also experienced the same dissatisfaction.

Audelia

What I consider worst about my school is our financial aid office. This past semester I experienced the biggest scare of my life. I thought I wouldn't be receiving my financial aid in time for the semester to be paid off. That day I walked into the office there was a long wait. Once I approached the front and was attended the receptionist was no help when she told me my aid would not come in on time and that the only thing I could do was switch to the installment plan and I was left feeling helpless.

Allison

The worst thing about CSUS is the control of the CSU system on decisions at the school. Many of the CSU decisions do not adequetly reflect the wants and needs of students at specific CSU Universities including Sacramento.

Eric

There have been some recent sexual assault issues on campus. I think campus police need to patrol more often or just have more police on staff, especially at night or when it is starting to get dark. People are supposed to feel safe on campus and if that comfort is lost then Sac State is going to lose a lot of students.

Karen

The requirements. There were so many classes that I did not need for my major CORE classes. I also couldn't get into my major classes, being now, two years behind. It is ridiculous how you have to take general education classes with your major classes. It defeats the purpose of college. It is good for those coming in college as undecided, but I've declared a major and cannot be able to begin it at all. It's frustrating.

Patricia

Commuter campus; makes it hard for students to get involved in campus activities.

Mai

The most worst thing about my school is that this semester does not seem safe because there has been six incidences that results in girls being sexually assaulted.

Ali

It is a commuter campus, so I would love to see more emphasis on campus life.

Carin

Budget cuts are killer. It's hard to pick classes that fit my work schedule so I can lose or gain hours at work each semester, affecting my budget.

Fernando

The worst thing is tuition. Fees are communly part of every institution. Higher fees mean a higher challange for students and instructors. Due to the costly fees students tend to stay away from buying books and materials. Instructors are solving the problem by adding a virtual web page to their class from which students can download readings as well as syllabus. This will save paper and can be more accessible from any computer. Big problems mean smart solving skills.

Amber

They are more worried about the way things look then the way things are.

Asia

the worst thing about my school is how it manages money. Budget costs are causing them to lay off faculty, decrease the number of classes offered, and increase fees. but at the same time they put up tv monitors around campus to have a slide show of info that could easily be printed instead. It seems that the school spends its money on cosmetic things to make it appeal to future students, and fails to work on helping those here.

Kristin

There is nothing that I would consider the worst about the school. No one likes to do homework or have a ton of papers to write, but dedication is key.

Tonh

Security. There's has been five incident of rape/attempted rape this month alone.

xong

The increase of tuition! It is killing me financially!

Tanya

The worst thing about the school I have encoutered so far is the way their financial aid works. If your financial aid does not come in by the time classrooms are in session, you will be dropped unless you pay out of pocket. This happens even if they know for a fact that the money is coming directly to them. At which point you can re-register with hope that those classes are still open for you to get in. It's an uncomfortable feeling!

Jessie

Of the issues that are currently present at CSUS, the one that truely bothers me is on-campus smoking. When walking into each building there is a sign that reads "No smoking within 20 feet of this building." However, who is actually watching? Many students selfishly and carelessly walk around campus puffing clouds of smoke into the other students paths. I feel that CSUS should take the much needed action of permanently and totally banning smoking on campus.

Julia

The worst think about my school is Financial Aid. Not only they charge you a lot for tuition and registration fees, they ofently don't manage the student's money well. My friend had her classes dropped because her financial aid didn't come in time and she couldn't pay for her classes. Also the people who work there doesn't really seem to care or trying to help the student when the financial aid made a mistake. I think if the financial aid has better management to the student's money, the school will be better.

Svetlana

The worst thing about my school is that classes fill up really fast. Because of the budget cuts, many sections closed and it is practically imposible for some students to enroll in certain classes. The good thing is that those classes give priority to the students within majors that are required to take those courses. Being not confident about what classes you will get into before the semester starts is the worst thing about Sac State.

Jeannie

The worst thing about Sac State is the fact that I have to leave it, grow up, become an adult, and find a full-time job. I am sad to let go of this part of my life. I guess that parking can sometimes be outrageous as well; especially on Tueday and Thursday mornings.

Jaswinder

The worst thing that comes to mind when I take Sac State into consideration has to be tuition. I think any student there would agree with me. I have been at Sac State for 3 years now and every semester, the tuition has gone up. Currently, it is close to $2600 per semester. Sure it less than if you were to stay on-campus and having to get a meal plan or housing, but when you take into consideration money spent on gas, books and food, that $2600 tuition is not just $2600.

Yolanda

The worst thing about my school would be that its so crowded during lunch time and in betweern classes.

CAROLYN

i REALLY ENJOY MY SCHOOL & OTHER THANPARKING... I HAVE NO DISCONTENTS.

Olivia

Sometimes, i feel like they should work on communicating with students better.

Karina

Job opportunities are not throughout the school year, they are only open at the end of each semester, so those who have been fired/ can't find a job during the summer cannot rely on the Fall to get a job, instead they must wait until Spring.

Tracy

I think there should be more focus onadvising, career planning, job placement, resume writing, interviewing skills, etc.

Troy

The worst thing about my university is the recent tuition increases. I worked hard during my senior year to save money for tuition. I graduated as the valedictorian with a 4.3 GPA and did receive a large academic scholarship. I selected a university near my employment so I could continue to work as my parents had catastrophic medical needs and could not help me with tuition. However, the month I started college (Aug. 2009) my college tuition increased by 38{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. I needed to come up with an additional $2,100. This wiped out my savings.

Thai

The worst thing about my school is how there is an emphasis on increasing tuition while there is not enough in upgrading classrooms.

Susan

Its size is too large and could be overwhelming for freshman

jessica

The worst thing about my school would have to be the lack of freshmen involvement. I don't think that we are given the appropriate information to participate in clubs, volunteer work, etc. because of the fact that Sac State is a commute school. Due to this there is not much social participation for incoming freshmen.

Chia

I think the worst thing about my school is the distribution of the school money. Administrators pays go up, lots of money are invested in the looks of the school, yet, we have one of the lowest retention rates in the CSU system.

Alice

CSU Sacramento is a great campus, students recycle, there are always events and job fairs and more. Students there are friendly. The only thing that may seem a bit scary are the squirrels. They are great and there are a lot of them, buti think they rely so much on peopel to feed them now that they seem to follow anyone with food in their hands. I only hope people will stop feeding those poor animals so they learn to fend for themselves.

Jennifer

Students do not care about academics and look down somewhat on those who do.

Amanda

The science equipment and science buildings are the worst thing about my school. The school promised a new science building about 6 years but has not delivered. The classrooms are not up to date with today's technology, and cannot accomidate the amount of students taking these courses. Since budget cuts happened at my school, the school has slightly increased class size.

Sonia

I consider the parking availability and traffic it causes to be the worst thing about my school. Students consider parking to be an issue because they find it hard to find a spot to park in or have to come to school a half an hour early to find parking. There have been reported incidents of hit and runs on our campus. The traffic congests a lot, as well, due to this. Overall, parking seems to be the issue most students have at my school.
