What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

David

All parents and students searching for the right college should take out their time to carefully review each school they are intrested in. I believe a good way to review this is to make a list of criteria that is important to both the student and parents . After careful discussion the parents and the student should decide on the school that most resembles the list they made. Multiple visits to the school should also be made, not just to see the environment and the facilities, but also to observe college life; such as students interacting with other students. Also if possible try to sit in a couple of classes to have a feel for how the professors are and the class sizes. Introduce yourself to some of the adminstration, if you ever have a problem you can say , "do you remember me we met...." this would make your relationship more personal. All of these steps should be taken in order to have a succesful college experience.

Do what feels right.

Research, research, research. Look into the schools you are applying to and talk to people who have gone there. Try to stay overnight to get a feel for the campus. If you know what you're getting into from the start, you're more likely to stay at the university you select.

The college decision process is one of the most mentally and emotionally straining processes one will have to go through. At times it is extremely frustrating and stressful and you may want to give up and pick the ?easiest? choice. However, choosing the right college ultimately defines your future. Therefore, you want to seriously consider how your school will collaborate with your personality and fields of interest. Definitely take the time to visit your colleges, spend a weekend in a dorm with other students, getting to know the campus and the people. If at any point you feel uncomfortable or unwelcome, perhaps you should reconsider that school. College is supposed to be ?the time of your life,? and allows you to grow, change, and mature in many ways. Obviously academics is extremely important, but have fun too. Go out, make new friends, and meet new people. Get involved in campus activities, events, and extra circular activities. College is supposed to be fun and rewarding, so take the time to pick the right school for you!
