I can offer no better advice to parents and students searching for a college than the following. First and foremost , decide what you want to do in college , no , I don't mean just coursework , but what you want to do . Second , decide how much debt you're willing to incur in the course of your education. And finally ,climate , if you can't stand the climate of the area of the country where your school is , you'll be miserable no matter what .

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Non-minority non-disabled students are treated like second class citizens to some extent.

What kind of person should attend this school?

If you want to be a teacher , or an artist , and especially an art teacher , this is a very good school for you .

if you don't live on campus you can't make friends.

I hope there is a change in the school. Ever since we got our new President tradition has gone out the window, and that's what this school is all about. Not to mention there needs to be more activities to get us in the community, and to allow us to make friends, if there isn't a oppurtunity then it won't happen people will stick with what is confortable for them. So there for I really like this survey and I hope it has an impact.

Describe the students at your school.

Everyone is pretty focused and willing to help at any time. Its easy to get help from them esp. non traditional students, there are usually 3-4 in each of your classes and they are more than willing to help you out at any time.

Absolutely the number one thing to do is a tour! Check the campus out, check out the dorms, ALL of them not just the ones they show you on the guided tour because most likely they will show you the nice new ones, and freshman are usually stuck in the old ones. After the guided tour walk around by yourself and explore, go to a sporting event or sit in on a class. Also make sure that what you want to major is offered and make sure that it is a good program. Schools with large general education programs take up alot of your time and money. Lastly once you get to college, don't go home for one month. It may seem hard, but going home alot at the begining will make you miss out on alot of what college is. Good Luck.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The only bad part is there is alot of snow in the winter. It can make travle to Erie and other places hard, not to mention cold when walking to class but if you like snow its not to bad.

Make sure you find a school that you'll fit into. Socialize with your floormates because they will most likely be your first friends. Go to any club you think you'll like. Your paying for them so why not go and maybe get some free food out of it? Also find out when concerts, comedians and solo artists are coming to campus because that is usually free entertainment.

Make sure to look at every single detail about the school, asks plenty of questions and be absolutely positive that it is what you want. Parents remember its your child's choice and their wants, and students remember that you're parents are just trying to help you and they are sad that you are leaving. Check out ALL opprotunities for financial aid. Students fill out all of the scholarships that you can, I know that its a pain but will help out extremely well, you will be happy when you have that extra money to help. Money is scarce but don't fret everyone is poor in college, everyone gains weight, everyone losses themselves at some time, don't worry time will pass and you will look back and wonder why you worried. All the decisions you make now will make your like. Most and importantly HAVE FUN! NO REGRETS! p.s. mom and dad don't worry if believe that you raised an awesome child and that they can make good decisions. Let them grow, they will develop into wonderful young adults.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about Edinboro would probably have to be the atmosphere and support from the professors and other services that are offered to students. It is a small town community, with the city of Erie only 15-30 minutes away so there is something for everyone. Also professors are always willing to help students and there are countless amounts of student services available to the student population.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about Edinboro would probably be the fact that they don't cancel classes when the weather is bad. We get really bad winter weather and it is sometimes difficult making it to class during these times.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

First thing first, decide wht you want to go into, and go from there, looking for schools that have a good program in that field. I was interested in graphic design, and i heard that they had a good program here at Edinboro University and it was close to home. Be sure of what you want, because if you are not sure of what you want, any road will get you there.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

The type of person that should apply to Edinboro University is mostly the artisticly oriented students.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The university experience is what YOU make of it. Your degree is only a piece of paper. If you want to succeed, you have to get involved and learn as much as you can as soon as possible. Don't expect to be qualified to do anything simply because you have been graduated from a university. Teach yourself; in today's sham of an educational system, nobody else is going to do it for you.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Students here tend to be apathetic and unmotivated. In my department (Broadcast Journalism), courses do not even begin to approach being adequate to prepare a student to take a job in this highly competitive field. Despite the fact that we have a fairly well-equipped 3000-watt campus radio station, it' usually poorly managed and reflects poorly upon the communications department and the community at large.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Don't worry about you're appearance, or being accepted, or giving into peer pressure. The right group of friends will find you and you will ultimately be happy. You don't have to be someone you're not to have friends. Those who make you do things like that are not your friends!

What's unique about your campus?

The education program has great professors who are passionate about the field and have a lot of experience. They understand how students learn nest and display all types of teaching and learning in the classroom.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

A lot of classes are only offered once a year or there aren't enough classes to fill students needs. Graduation is pushed back for non traditional students who can't afford to quit a job to attend full time or have children at home.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

This school is a good choice for students who do not quite know what they want to major in yet. I started out as an undeclared major my first semester, and I have since changed my major to English/Writing. They give you until the end of your sophomore year before they tell you to change your major.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Look into a bunch of different colleges, and see what they offer. Compare colleges, and narrow down your choices. This will help you find the right school to attend.
