I think many of the stereotypes are brought on by the Greek lifestyle that perpetuates our campus. There is a large Greek community on campus and I think many times those are the ones who receive so much attention. I also think there is a stereotype on how basketball oriented the campus is as a whole when there are people who could care less about basketball and instead are interested in a wide variety of other things. I think it's easy to assume we all attend the basketball games and we all never miss a game on TV when it's really not completely true.

Alexandra

I'm not from anywhere near IU and I honestly didn't know where Indiana was on a map, much less know the students' stereotypes. All I knew was that there were a lot of Jewish people there.

I think the main stereotype about IU students is that all they do is party. Another stereotype is that people that attend IU are simply local.

Sydney

That we party in cornfields.

Elli

It's a party school, too big to get to know anyone, and Greek Life dominates the social scene. It's all about the partying, not the academics

Ryan

I think the biggest one is that we're a party school, where people go out more than they study. I think this is occasionally associated, in some circles, with a general lack of intelligence.

Alex

Hippie liberals.

Kristina

The main stereotype you hear is that it's a party school. Also, many people say that the school is "too big" or "easy to get lost in". It's also called a "basketball school" because of the intense basketball program here.
