What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Kelsie

There really isn't anything I would consider to be the worst thing about Iowa State University.

Kyle

The athlectics, we are not a sports school, if you are looking to win championships this is not the school to go to. On occassion we'll have a decent season but nothing of high caliber.

abrahem

the worst thing about my school is the whether .

Chelsea

Drinking.

Allison

I think the wrose thing is that it's hard to get scholarships from the university itself.

chad

There seems to be a lack of unity. Strong divisions based on race, college, and major.

Luke

The worst thing is our sports. I really wish our sports where better to give more people something to look forward to when the sport is underway.

Matt

Every weekend it seems there is some kind of party going on somewhere that is noisy. Living in the dorms is close to campus but it can also be noisy in the dorms and sometimes hard to sleep.

Eric

Some of the professors here are difficult to understand. They may be wonderful teachers, but since they have difficult to understand accents.

Zoey

There are so many things to get involved with at Iowa State University it can be hard to stay focused on homework.

Logan

campus

Samantha

The parking is definitely the worst part about ISU.

Elizabeth

I think that the worst thing is obviously the price of tuition for out of state students. I think it's the worst part because I already need to pay so much extra to live out here and travel to my hometown, and I don't understand why I should be paying so much more for the same education as residents.

Stephanie

The University has a growing number of enrolled students, which causes class sizes to be ectemely large for some classes which are general in nature, and not considered core classes. This makes it difficult to obtain additional assistance in the classroom from the professor when needed, although the university does have supplement instruction for most classes, those sessions tend to be large as well.

Cody

...i can't think of anything that's 'bad' per say.

Brianna

Nothing bad about my school.

Jordan

On the weekends everyone goes home so the campus ends up a ghost town on the weekend and it becomes a very difficult socail enviorment.

Jamie

Such a big campus. It gives a great opportunity to learn and connect with people but with such a huge campus there are bigger classes and not so much one-on-one with the professor. There are definitely good things about a big campus, however.

Hailey

The only thing I am unhappy with about my school is the dining services. I am tired of having the same food over again and the quality doesn't seem all that great.

Nicole

Our worst attribute may be our football team, we have yet to make significant progress this year as the University of Iowa beats us yet again. Joking aside, our dinning centers sould offer healthier meal options, and it would be nice if the windows shut in our dorm rooms. Other than a few inconviences there really isn't anything to complain about, if there was I would have to consider changing schools.

Zak

I feel almost closed off from the outside world at Iowa State. That has to be the worst thing about it, you just feel isolated.

Katie

I believe that every experience is different depending on the student. Personally, I have no negative comments about Iowa State University overall. I enjoyed my time there and as a non-traditional student, I felt welcomed and appreciated.

Shannon

Distance from home....5 and a half hour drive makes it difficult to go home "whenever".

Molly

The town of Ames

Miles

I consider the worst thing about Iowa State University is the dorms. The buildings themselves are very nice, although they vary between each one. However, the locations of the dorms and parking can be horrible. Residences near campus are nice, but parking is upwards of a mile away (which you must walk, depending on time of day.) Other locations, such as the "Towers", are themselves even further away than thought possible. This can make having an off-campus job very difficult for many.

Erika

I think the worst thing about my school is that some areas of study are really good while others are lacking. Either you get really good professors and get an amazing grade or you are forced to sit and listen to a professor that is not anywhere close to good at teaching the topic.

Megan

The worst thing about my school is that they do not give out alot of scholarships to their students. I did well and was involved in my high school but, even though I had a high GPA (3.67), it wasn't enough to get me even 5000 for 4 years.

Heather

I feel that the student fees are not being used properly.

Emily

so many conservatives

Britney

The financial situation with budget cuts.

Tedjo

The worst thing about the schoold would the transportation system that they have in Ames, they are mostly unconsistent especially about the timing. but not a lot of student used the transportation system since they all have their own car, but the students without the car are sometimes struggling to catch the bus since the buses are mostly late or too early to arrive at the bus stop.

Samantha

The nightlife because there is little to without bars, few places for under 21 to go

Rachel

If you need to pull out of classes and/or housing, the staff does not always tell the student everything that needs to be done. This causes issues with billing as some of the records still show that you are enrolled, so the University will still bill you. Talk to everyone you can think of to make sure you are no longer enrolled or signed up for housing, meal plans, etc.

Whitney

Size of the campus, you have bad weather and have to rush to your classes (bus system is good though if the timing is right)

Jessica

Lack of teacher communication. Some teachers are very hard to get ahold of which makes it frustrating to obtain help on homework or studying for tests.

Tobi

The worst thing about school is it is big and sometimes my education doesn't seem personal.

Alexandra

Cold winters

Troy

Actually this may sound really funny, however the worst thing about the campus is the crows! They just hide in the trees, exspecially during the night and you walk under the trees and they all fly out of the tree, dropping unpleasant gifts to the students walking under the trees!!!

Jake

One of the things that scares a lot of people at Iowa State and other big schools is lectures. There's really no getting around it; at ISU or any school, especially in Science and technology, you will be in lectures, and that can be really intimidating for freshman. Most people get used to it pretty fast, but if you're having touble, make sure you get help. There are your TAs, Supplemental Instruction sessions, proffesors' office hours, and tutoring ($$) alla vailable. If you're missing that personal touch, make sure to take advantage of those.

Kody

The Towers and Helser Hall because they are not in the best shape.

Ellie

Limited parking on campus because it's a pedestrian campus.

Danielle

The professors are generally more concerned about their resear then about helping the student. Sometimes the class sizes are WAY too large. It is freaking cold here.

Megan

At the beginning of your college experience, class sizes are large but still engaging. Because the college is big, also, it's hard to get to know EVERYONE.

Tabitha

I consider the worst thing at this school to be how many students participate in drinking. Drinking is about the one and only thing people on campus do every weekend and even during the weekdays. Being a Christian, it makes me angry that there is so much alcohol abuse among the students. There are so many other ways to have fun besides drinking.

Amanda

the distance of housing form classes

Jordan

Iowa State sometimes seems a little small.

Kimberly

Iowa State University is very Science and Technology centered, so there is a common belief that the Liberal Arts fields are neither important or relavent to finding a career. This leads to strong stigmas about the percieved intelligence of students in Liberal Arts.
