What's unique about your campus?

I love the blue-stone buildings and the surrounding valley. It is amazing to look out of a window from class and see what a beautiful campus and location we have. The Shenandoah Valley is amazing year-around and sets the perfect atmosphere for studying, socializing, and succeeding.

The best thing about my school is the environment and how much attention is paid to students. There are so many organizations aimed for every different kind of student that no one will ever feel like they don't belong here. The freshman orientation program alone lasts a week and focuses completely on immersing freshmen and making them feel at home immediately at JMU. There are organizations that operate solely on weekends for those students who do not wish to drink, as well as a drunk driving prevention program for safety. It's really excellent.

The friendliness of the faculty, staff, and student body here is amazing. I had my choices narrowed down to Virginia Tech or James Madison University, and when I went to Tech for orientation the people were friendly and seemed happy. However, when I went to JMU for orientation the atmosphere was that of "I LOVE JMU!!!! THIS IS THE BEST SCHOOL EVER!!! WELCOME TO JMU!! IT WILL BE THE GREATEST 4 YEARS OF YOUR LIFE!!" Everyone was smiling and excited about life, and I fit right into that, and it makes me feel right at home!

The best thing about James Madison University is it's diversity in everything. Sports aren't limited to just those here on scholarship; there are a wide variety of intramural sports teams. Also, with being a music major, there are so many things to do outside of practicing while still being involved with music. I'm part of one of the four music sororities and fraternies, which are all open to majors and non-majors alike; I'm part of several of the top ensembles, which are also open to majors and non-majors. JMU is incredibly hospitable and welcoming.
