What is your overall opinion of this school?

Harper

The College of Agriculture advisors really take time to see every student and making sure they are on track in their college schedule. There is also lots of school pride at K-State, many students attend every game and cheer heartily for our team.

Alex

K-State is home. It feels small, the campus is beautiful, and the people are some of the nicest in the world. During the school year, the student body represents something close to half of Manhattan's population, so there's always people to meet.

Alex

The best thing about K-state, i think, is the big campus in a small town. The community is really centered around the campus and you feel welcomed and at home anywhere in manhattan.

Abbey

I love K-State, hands down. It has a sense of community, pride and a huge amount of school spirit over all. When you go to a football game, you can just feel the excitement and joy within each and every student who comes to support their team, even after our throats turn sore and our feet can't stand anymore! Not only that, but the most wonderful thing about our campus is the care and compassion for not just the people living in Manhattan but all around the world. There is not a day that goes by without me seeing some sort of message supporting cancer research or to buy jewelry in order to help women in Uganda. Over all, there's just so many giving and wonderful people at KSU that make it an awesome place to be.

Blake

The best thing about K-State is by far the sense of community. Everyone is usually friendly on campus and the sporting events are great- especially basketball, volleyball, and football. The purple pride really shows. Manhattan is a great town and very friendly towards the students. The administration is great at K-State- they really care about us! Kids complain a lot about being bored, but I think that is crap because there is always a ton of stuff to do if you are willing to try new things.

Barbara

Manhattan is a horrible town. If you aren't into the bar scene there's nothing to do and no place to meet people besides the school itself. Plus it's an army town, enough said there... There are no good restaurants and even IHOP that SHOULD be 24hrs isn't. The pre-vet program is nothing but a joke now. It's all about agriculture and no longer does anyone bother telling incoming freshman to think for themselves and choose a different background major. That'll be a laugh when they graduate and can't find a job because they didn't get into vet school. If you tell anyone in Kansas you go to KSU it's going to be one of two reactions. They love the school or they hate it. There aren't many people who choose neither faction. Despite all that we are STILL better than KU. Our mascot and colors are better by far and the students aren't as spoiled rotten. I don't care about football so that's not even factored into the equation. In the years I attended I certainly could have done without the pro-life rally every year and the year that the police showed up to wash the "Legalize Marijuana" off the sidewalk was utterly ridiculous! That's a Kansas problem though...

When you come to K-State you will never want to leave! It is a big college town, and everything revolves around the athletics at K-State!!! Tailgating is a must and you will miss football season once it is gone. Most of the time spent on campus is in the student union people watching and grabbing something to eat. The administration at K-State in all is pretty good, just ask fellow students about what classes to take and who to stay away from. The most recent controversy on campus is over the parking garage, the students don't want it and the faculty does. School pride is huge...once you get here you will bleed purple! K-State maybe be in the middle of nowhere, but we have 2 big lakes nearby, a big water crossing, lots of apartment pools and hot tubs, and tons of parties!! It is a pretty big party town, everynight of the week there are parties, and the bars in Aggieville are always going strong. There is always something to do and lots of people coming up with new things to try and new places to go! The #1 thing I would recommened is to GET INVOLVED!!! You will end up meeting so many people and those people will change eveything! GO STATE!

Dana

I come from a very small town (there were 40 in my graduating class), but I don't ever remember feeling lost or insignificant. The people here are so nice and it was really easy to get plugged into activities and to make friends. I definitely recommend living in the residence halls. Manhattan is very much a college town, but the community has many things to offer as well. There are many organizations outside of the campus to get involved with and the surrounding area boasts some great recreational space to get away from college life when you need to. I love the locally owned shops and the many coffee shops around town each have a different atmosphere and cater to college students' need for caffeine and study space.

Mary

I think the size of KSU is perfect! The campus is not too small but not too large and it's just far enough from home to really feel like you are at college. Aggieville is always a wonderful attraction and make sure you get football tickets. Football is HUGE at K-state and you may feel left out on game day if you don't have tickets!

Sarah

KSU is a big school, with a beautiful campus. The town is the perfect size, with very low crime and lots of student housing around campus. There are alot of special interest groups and acedemic clubs.

Alex

Every one gets something different out of ksu but for most its a good time. I love the school itself. Although it has a large population campus feels like a small campus and you can literally walk from anywhere on campus to anywhere else in ten minutes. The admin at ksu are like any other campus basically. You have your really hard teachers as well as your really easy ones. Some are good teachers and some are not so great. One of the biggest student complaints is parking. Its really not that great on campus. The parking lots for the dorms are WAY away from campus as well as a fairly long walk from the dorms themselves and they are always really crowed so its hard to find a good parking space and because they are so far away its kinda scary walking from your car to the dorm late at night, especially being a girl.

Tyler

The best school in the country. Im so glad I picked K-State. The people here are amazing and I had the best years of my life.

Andrew

You won't find nicer people anywhere. K-State is a major university, it's got all of the resources a student could need. We have great ag, vet med, and engineering departments. From my experiences, professers are very approachable and more than willing to help students succeed. K-State is just an all around great place.

Caitlin

Manhattan is a total college town! The admin is very attentitive and helpful. The most frequent complaint by students is parking, but a new parking garage is under construction to be done in Dec 2008, which will help.

Matthew

One thing I'd change about K-State is beautification. K-state has little to no fountains, or outside art to beautify the campus. Other Universities that I have been a part of or visited have many fountains and they look very nice.

Kevin

First of all, the campus. All year, and particularly during the spring, it is absolutely gorgeous. It has a very welcoming feel to it. The architecture is bold and elegant. Old, but not out-of-date. Modern buildings blend seamlessly. It is wide open yet still easily walkable. The size of the school works well. Its small enough that you see friends and acquaintances frequently but large enough that there are always more people who you don't know. This ensures that there are always new people to meet, and gives a feeling of more independence. The "college town" atmosphere separates itself from the rest of the community. Aggieville, at the heart of nightlife for students, sits adjacent to campus with the two at the center of Manhattan. Things quiet down considerably for the whole town during the summer.

Monica

Total college town, Manhattan is great for college students. Lots of school pride even though we haven't been great at any sports since I've been going there. I love going to a big state school with a strong Greek system. However, I would change the Greek system (they're going extreme-conservatism) so that some old traditions and philanthropies could be done again.

Torry

Manhattan is not a very big city. I wish there was more shopping here but Kansas City is only two hours away and I make it there every few months. Maybe it helps me save money! Aggieville is awesome, there are so many bars within a few blocks, every town should have a place like it.

Paul

My favorite thing about KState is the atmosphere and how the campus is laid out so that everything isn't that far away. I also get quite favorable reactions when I tell people that I go to KState. So this is a respected facility. KState has a great administration for the most part, and many of them are very willing to help you succeed. I would also have to say that KState is very much part of a college town. Aggieville is just south of campus and a pretty short walk from anywhere on campus. There is quite a bit of school pride at KState, and with the basketball team that we had this year it definitely did a great job at complimenting that pride.

Chris

KSU has a beautiful campus located in the Kansas Flinthills. KSU is the smallest of the big 12 schools but certainly the friendliest as well. K-State is a well respected University. A degree from KSU actually means something, which is more than can be said about most other Kansas colleges and universities. Manhattan is a fantastic town with lots of things to see and do and an awesome college scene with "aggieville" right next to campus. KSU has more pride than any other big 12 school and it shows. If your interested in agriculture, KSU is the number 1 agriculture school, with the best and brightest ag professors in the nation. Don't waste you time or money going someplace lessor.

Katie

My favorite thing about K-State is that everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I remember when I visited the school for the first time that everyone was smiling and saying hi to each other. Now as I walk through campus I cannot make it to a class without seeing someone I know and stopping to chat. I absolutley love this aspect of the school because although it is a large university it still has a small town feel to it.

sarah

I feel that k-state can feel as big or as small as you'd like it to. It was just the right fit for me. The town of Manhattan is big enough to carry the essentials but you can drive from one end of town to the other in about 10 minutes max. This is great with rising gas prices, and you can walk anywhere on campus, they say everything is a ten minute walk or less and thats been true so far for me.

Jerry

The students are my favorite part of K-State. All are welcoming, and fun to be around. They are diverse, and bring with them different groups to belong to. The town itself is very open armed to K-State students. They do a lot for the community, and the community does a lot in return.

Amanda

I think the best thing about K-State is the people and the atmosphere. It just feels like a big community and people make friends quickly all the time just because it is such an open and friendly atmosphere. I would only change maybe the speed limit going down Claflin...20 mph in the middle of the day kinda sucks sometimes. I also feel like K-State is just the right size because it's big enough to have alot of options on people to hang out with and things to do, but it's not so big that you get lost in the huge crowd of people and don't feel connected.

Andrew

The campus is well laid out, and people are generally friendly. The buildings are sometimes old, but renovations to the interior bely the beautiful exterior that many hold. The town can seem small, but there is everything a college student needs to survive. Students hold lots of pride in K-State, and Aggieville is fun from Thursday to Sunday.

Jenny

Kansas State is just that Kansas State. It is an amazing school that cares about the students. The students who attend Kansas State have a large amount of Student Pride. On football weekends you will find a large majority of the student body over at the football stadium tailgating waiting for that weekends game to begin and just enjoying time with their friends. During basketball season students will line up hours before the games begin to get courtside seats to cheer their mighty wildcats on. Our students have also started their own scholarship fund called Kansas State Proud which includes scholarships available for the students funded by the students. Our administration tries really hard and our current president has really turned the school around from what it was in the past to a thriving college campus. They try to provide us with the best oppertunities possible including guest speakers coming to campus who we would not get to hear and or meet otherwise. Recent speakers include President George W. Bush, and past President Bill Clinton. As far as places to hang out on campus we have the Student Union which is like any other college union has food, games, and fun. We also have the Library which is huge and a great place to meet up for group projects and or study for tests. The Library even has a coffee shop available so you don't need to leave for those late night coffee breaks. Dorm life for the incoming students is always fun. The Resident Assisstants try their hardest to get new students plugged in and involved with welcome back events and floor meetings and compititions. It is always nice on those early mornings not having to worry about cooking also with the cafeteria just a hallway away from the dorms, and right on the way to class.

Cassie

I had alot of trouble with K-State's administrative offices. They are very disorganized, and although teachers are very apt to help you out and treat you as an individual, the offices treat you as a random number. They're very excited to see you come there, but once you're there and they take your money, they treat you as a number.

Andrew

For me the best thing about KSU is the interaction I have with other people. The relationships I have formed through involvement in groups and organizations at Kansas State are unlike anything I've ever experienced.

Jared

I really like K-State. Most of my friends are from small towns or the country. I just love the environment here. I from a small town as well and K-State has somewhat of a small town feel to it. There's a whole lot of student pride. Everybody I know who goes to K-State, including myself, loves it. I do wish that the University would not do as much as possible to make a quick buck. So many things that the students end up paying for are things the students do not want or do not think are necessary.

Alex

This school needs a bus that goes around the whole city, not just from parking lot to parking lot. I spend all of my time on campus in the engineering complex. When I tell people that I go to K-State they ask if there are any black people here.

Paul

The best thing about K-State has to be the pride that the students take in the school. The student body has been awesome at supporting the athletic teams. It is so much fun to go to athletic events because so many people are so excited about it. When we have people going out at least twelve hours early to an event, that shows just how much dedication the students have towards supporting the teams.

Alex

We have a beautiful campus with a wide variety of students, professors, majors, etcetera. In general, the campus is very peaceful and students here are fairly friendly. Cliques exist as they do everywhere else but I am certain you will find your niche here!

Royce

Not enough school pride. Athletics needs to be stronger. technology focus is a joke. The services are not worthwhile and are very poor. Technology is the future of education. As students the school should support computer purchases and encourage their use and integration in to class rooms. This could start with a computer initiative that gave students more than the 4{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} education discount on computers. That is so little it is a joke, I am already in so much debt to go to school how can I afford a full price computer to do all the work that is expected of me.

Alex

Choosing to attend K-State has easily been the best decision of my life. The size of the school is absolutely perfect. It's big enough that you can get involved in a wide variety of things, but yet small enough that you can make great friendships, and the teachers remember your names. Manhattan is definately a college town, which helps add to experience. The entire community is proud to be purple.

Lauren

K-State is a place where you can feel right at home. Where the students are friendly and the opportunites are abundant. There are so many events, activities, and organizations available that it is easy to find your niche and try something new! I will never regret chosing K-State, I've met some of my best friends, participated in some amazing things, and found out more about myself and my abilties! I'm not sure if I can specifiy just one place that I spend most of my time at K-State because I am everywhere! From McCain Hall for my Show Choir Practice, to studying in Hale Library, and at my sorority house to hang out, to the Union for meetings. Since K-State is Kansas' best kept secret I think it could be a little more diverse, though the topic is discussed frequently it would be awesome to see more of it on campus. We have a lot of 'purple' pride at K-State, football games are packed and you can always see a sea of purple where ever you go. Our administration does an awesome job at letting the students have a voice. We have an extremely strong student government that allocates a large budget each year. From a new parking garage to our textbook lists going online our ideas are heard. There aren't too many complaints that I recognize other than the typical college student ones, books are expensive, tution is expensive (in general not specific to K-State), and sleep is a minimum! ha ha

Alex

The people are the best thing! Everyone is so nice and friendly, making friends is easy. I feel the size is just right, not too many but enough so there's new people to meet everyday! People respond very positively when I say I go to K-State, it is impressive. I spend a lot of time in the library studying, there's tons of great space for quiet studying, or in the dorms. Manhattan is the best college town a person could ask for. Almost everything is centered around the college life, including aggieville! K-State has the best fans so there's tons of school pride. The parking lots are kind of a pain, those could definitely be improved, be prepared to walk a few blocks to get to your car.

Christian

One of the good things about K-State is that it is very much in a college town. Pretty much all of Manhattan breathes K-State. You can see the Powercat everywhere, and Willie the Wildcat is a local hero. On gamedays (football AND basketball), the town is swarming with purple, both from students and from fans no longer in college. The population of Manhattan decreases substantially over the summer. Manhattan is the Summer is a completely different town than Manhattan during the school year. Being a college town, there are alot of places near campus (oh, and the campus is absolutely gorgeous!) that cater to students and college life, such as multiple coffee shops. There are two local coffee shops that I visit quite frequently in Aggieville, the 6 or 7 block area that contains most of the bars, many very good restaurants and eateries, and a couple bookstores. Though Aggieville is a popular place, it's not the only place in Manhattan that is geared toward students. All around campus and on campus there are places to hang out, resources for work and play, places to get away from it all. All in all, Manhattan and K-State is a pretty sweet place to be.

Justin

Kansas State is awesome for a few reasons. First, I love the big but small town atmosphere. With so many people who come from big cities surrounded by a bunch of people who are from smaller towns makes for an amazing mix of different viewpoints. Around campus most of my time is spend obviously in classes but if not in class the library the rec or the union. School pride is huge and there are very large crowds for both football and basketball. That is another one of my favorite things about K-state is tailgating and football season. The faculty and staff will ALL go out of their way to make sure to know your name in the majority of classes and they are always willing to help outside of class.

Krista

The best thing about K-State is the people, both students and faculty. Everyone goes above and beyond to help each other out in any way possible. Pat Bosco, our Dean of Student Life, somehow knows everyone and not only recognizes faces but can remember almost all the students' names. The school itself is a great size. You see enough familiar faces for comfort, but if you want to stay away from certain people its pretty easy. While on campus I spend most of my time in Eisenhower (the mostly English building) as well as the Student Union. There is so much to do in the union including: bowling, an apple store, bank, lots of food places, and Cat's Den (a convenience store). If you have extra time between classes, its a great place to go. The students have the most amazing pride and support for our school, but manage to do it without any of the arrogance. The general reaction I get from people is a good one when I tell them I go to K-State and they always make a comment about Aggieville. Calling Manhattan a college town is a huge understatement. The town has about 50,000 people here and 25,000+ are students. There is always something to do and somewhere to hang out. If you were to hear a complaint about anything here it would probably be parking and the fact that the roads around the university love to flood. If there is any type of strong precipitation then its going to get pretty ugly. They just started to build a parking garage on campus and until that is up there is virtually no parking.

Leah

Although K-State is a very large school and it is impossible to know everyone on campus, it feels like a small school. Many of the students here are from small-town Kansas, which breeds a very friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Commonly, when I tell people that I go to K-State, they automatically say, "Don't you mean 'Aggieville'?" Aggieville, Manhattan's bar district, is a common destination for many K-Staters during the weekend (or during the week!). It's definitely usually packed on a Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night, and it definitely gets rowdy at times (for example, we have "Fake St. Patty's Day" a week early to make sure students can celebrate St. Patty's Day-style before they leave for spring break). But there are many other things to do in Manhattan if you're not into the bar scene. The Student Union offers $1 movies, bowling, and games rather often, there are always great athletic competitions to attend, prestigious lectures, city parks to relax in, a couple of lakes within a 10-minute drive, etc.

Allison

The best thing about K-state is it's community feeling and it's endless ways to get involved in many different organizations and clubs. Our campus is neither to big or to small, it is somewhat large, but again, gives you that community feeling of a close net campus. I personally spend alot of my time in Hale library on campus, it offers many great resources and is a great place for quite studying. I believe that Manhattan is definatly a college town, everywhere you look there are powercats and purple. K-state also shows that same pride right on campus. We have a great turnout for sporting events and other events on campus and everyone takes pride in being a wildcat. One experiance I will always remember is the Texas game last year, where we beat them and rushed the field. It was a really great memory to have and be apart of. A frequent student complaint is parking on campus, but hopefully the parking garage will help with that issue.
