Kent State University at Kent Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Jared

Last school year I attended an OSU branch and the worst thing about it was how small it was along with everyone being under the age of 21. Since majority of the people living on this branch were under 21 it was a dry campus allowing us to have no fun.

Tina

My school is primarily concerned with performance and does not take into consideration life experiences that may negatively impact performance. So when life gets in the way, its better to just withdraw rather than ask for help with coping skills. I learned the hard way.

Gerald

I don't have anything to say in regards of stating what it frustrating about Kent State. I feel that they're are always things that are going to be difficult to deal with at school, but these problems are not so tremendous that they I can't overcome them.

Megan

The limited parking availablity, parking services ticketing all the time, lack of access to parking permits, Costly parking permits and expensive pay lot. Meters cost 1.50 for one hour; they used to be a .50 for an hour.

Sarah

The most frustrating thing about my campus, is the disconnect between CSI (center for student involvement) and the student body. There are nearly 200 organizations on campus, however, the advertising they do is almost bare to near nothing. Different events will occur or different campus organizations will hold things, but, students are not really informed of what is going on.

Kahley

The most frustrating thing about Kent State is how the majority of the teachers seem to not care about what they are teaching, or do not appear to be credible to teach and read directly off the PowerPoint slides and tell pointless stories that have nothing to do with the material and concepts they are attempting to teach.

Shawn

In terms of frustrating, Kent State University is not so in many ways. There is not anything frustrating about the classes, everything is described in a easily understood manner and in a timely fashion. The only thing slightly frustrating about the campus is they schedule of classes that are chosen, sometimes it is difficult to get into a class that you need to take because it has already filled up by the time it is you turn to schedule classes. Overall I am very pleased with my University and am happy it was chosen.

Gina

The most frustrating thing about my school is the noise level on the floor I live on.

John

The most frustrating thing about the school is the somewhat outdated systems utilized by some of the classes. In particular I recall one class where the professor used his own website and grading systems, despite the school offering a much more advanced and modern grading/website system for every instructor.

Nichole

The classes are a little too big for my taste. I remember how shocked I was at seeing over one hundred people in my first class on my first day as a freshmen. I'm the type of person who prefers small classes and the opportunity to get to know my professor. In these huge classes, my professor will most likely never learn my name and probably never recognize me outside the classroom. I feel like it's easier to learn and understand when you have a small class.

Elizabeth

The most frustrating part about Kent State University is the parking. As a student you are limited to specific areas at specific times of the day.

Katlyn

The most frustrating part of my university is the structure of the campus; it feels as if everywhere I walk it is an uphill climb. In the winter and snow, it is a struggle to trudge through the snow without slipping and hurting oneself. When one's class is far from where they live and it is a blizzard outside, it is troublesome when he or she has to worry about walking up and down hills to get to class. The most frustrating part of campus must be the climate and the physical location of the campus.

Ryan

I don't think enough people speak english enough and there are way to many groups of kids that are not racially diverse.

Kendahl

The most fustrating thing is parking. There isn't enough on-campus parking.

Samuel

The most frustrating thing about Kent State is getting food. The line is always long and it takes forever to get something to eat. Something I see myslef waiting over an hour to just get a sandwich. It really frustrates me that you have to wait so long.

jodi

The tution and required costs that continue to rise each year. This is really frustrating for an adult student, like myself, who is paying for myself and a child who is an imcoming freshman.

Jacob

Much like all American schools we are required to pay large amounts of money and take highschool courses over again; Such as math and writing when that time could be used towards a major or picking one.

Dawna

Traffic can be a real challenge (especially in the afternoons). I would suggest parking somewhere for the day and either taking the bus or walking through the beautiful campus interior.

kashif

I don't like the Weather of Kent.

Adrienna

The most frustrating thing is the financial aid not many schools including this one offers much money for its students.

Amanda

The parking passes. I have to leave for school at least an hour early in order to manage to find a parking spot that is in some way a decent distance from the building I have to be in. Also they offer too many parking passes for the amount of spaces.

Jacob

I would have to say the most frustrating thing about Kent State is the role of technology, when it works its great, but when it is malfunctioning it can be a pain. However; this may be a more general statement about schools today in the era of technology.

Adam

Homework

Dasjah

I thought long and hard about this question, but honestly there isn't really immensely anything that bothers me. I could say this though walking across the campus during the long winter months with the wind ripping around, and the snow blowing in your face does become frustrating some days. My friends and I joke around all the time and say that Kent should build a dome the University and then our school would be "just perfect."

Shauna

The food at Kent State University is of good quality, however I would like to see more options for healthier diets. I believe the budget may be an obstacle if Kent were to add more options, but I believe if students were given healthier options, they would choose them over the unhealthy ones. If Kent promoted healthier eating habits, I think the idea might catch and spread to everyone on the campus, especially as times are changing and new products have been introduced to the market. Kent could be one of the first campuses to follow this healthy lifestyle movement.

Brooke

The most frustrating thing about Kent State University is that they dont want to help those who need more finacial help other than filling out the fasfa and that they continue to raise the tuition so that we really cannnot afford to go to college.

Michael

Tuition is the one main problem I have with Kent State. Just this year they have signed for a new rule which states that all students who have 17 credit hours or higher are charged an extra 400 dollars in tuition which makes me fustrated. This means to avoid being charged extra for attending more classes I will forced to take less classes, which may force me to stay longer in college costing me more to attend.

Alison

The most frustrating thing about my school is its size and how difficult it is to find out about scholarships and other opportunities.

David

The partying that happens at Kent. When i am trying to study in my dorm it is too noisey for my to study and the library closes early on the weekends. Also the wireless here on campus is not the greatest.

Jamie

The most frustrating thing about Kent State is trying to schedule an academic advising appointment.

Chelsea

Most frustrating part is that even though there are still things to do on campus, most everyone goes home every weekend. There is nothing keeping them here and that is so frustrating.

Dylan

One of the most frustrating things about Kent State is the size of their campus. It usually takes about 10 to 15 minutes to walk to each class and it seems like the walk is always uphill.

Paisley

What is the most frustrating about my university, is that trying to map out my whole schedule each semester is crazy, along with its new GPS system which is helpful and difficult at the same time.

Tiffany

The most frusterated is the unhelpful advising staff. All you want is someone to help you with your goals at college and to be availble when you need them and they fail at this.

Katherine

The most frustrating thing about my school is the childish favoratism. This may be my own expirience but in both of my majors, it feels like it is a popularity contest. If you don't suck up to the proffesors, you fall by the wayside and you don't get offered anything extra, even though it seems (to me at least) that you are doing a solid job. I work and pay my own bills and have two majors. I have to live in the real world and really can not afford to do a lot of extra curriculars.

Kelsey

The most frustrating thing about Kent State University is the lack of marketing for on-campus events. There is an endless amount of activities going on each day, but they lack the essential publicity. If these events had better advertising, more people would attend. This would, in turn, boost school spirit and comfort on campus. An organization I am currently involved in, the Provost's Leadership Academy, is working towards creating a better atmosphere at Kent State by making events more accessible to everyone.

Nicole

The most frustrating thing about school would have to be time management. Coming into college you may get behind so quickly because you don't know how to manage your school work and social life. College is a big change from highschool. In highschool it may have been easy to hang out with friends and do your homework at the last minute, but college is a whole different story. You will learn that in college your education comes first. If you want a big social life then you need to learn time management.

Amanda

The most frustrating thing about Kent State is the fact that it is a "suitcase school". A majority of the students live within commuter range, so the campus can get rather empty during the weekends, especially extended weekends. This also causes a lack of school spirit, as the students never attach themselves to the school by always leaving to go home.

Brittanie

The most frustrating thing about my university is the competition getting in classes for my major. I am in the fashion program which is one of the largest majors at my school and the number of classes available that are required for graduation are slim. For example this past semester there is a class I needed to enroll in and there were only 3 classes with 25 people in each. Its very frustrating when certains classes hold you back from others in the future.

Michelle

I find that I get frusturated by the fact that there is one bank that is associated with Kent and the other banks, including my bank, are located outside of walking distance from campus so it makes accessing and managing my money challenging.

Megan

The cost to live on campus.

Elizabeth

The most frustrating thing about my school is the communication between Kent State employees and students. For example, the secretaries in the financial aid office treat you like a burden at times and they send you on the run-around between offices to fix your problem.

Cara

The most frustrating thing about Kent State University is the limited number of parking areas. Preference is given to upperclassmen when parking passes are purchased. Upperclassmen get to park closer to campus whereas underclassmen are limited to the places they can park. Since every student is required to pay the same tuition, I believe if a student has a university parking pass then they should be able to park at any parking lot on campus on a first come first serve basis.

Nathan

The most frustrating thing about my school, in my opinion, is the fact that they seem unorganized. Keeping track of your funds, important dates and deadlines, and recieving information about changes to your student accounts seems to be hard for Kent State to do well. In addition, when you notice changes and ask about them, it usually takes several requests to get things done, such as money transfers or scheduling for events. You might get 3 different answers from 3 different people, and that is frustrating for me.

Devon

For me the most frustrating thing is that I am from out of state, and halfway across the nation. Most of the kids who come here lived in the state of Ohio or Pennsylvania and they had friends that were coming here so their friend group was established. I haven't made as many friends as I was expecting to, but I'm sure that will come with time.

Brenda

The most frustrating part about my school is tuition. I am very passionate about becoming the best person that I can be, but the tuition is making it harder to make it possible. It prevents me from being able to live on campus, and it is a pain to commute to school every day. Also, I have to pay my tuition in loans and i hate knowing that i am in so much debt already

Shannon

The most frustrating thing about my school is the work study program. Students who go to school for free are given preference for jobs over students who are paying full tuition.

Lisbeth

Class locations are not planned particularly well...I have several French classes and they're not all in the same building, nor even the building the professors have their offices in. If I have 3 classes in the same subject in a row it would be nice not to have to trek back and forth across campus to get to them. Especially in the winter.

Danielle

The most frustrating aspect of Kent State for myself is the lack of afternoon/evening courses that I can register for while working a predominately day time job.

Leah

Horrible bureaucracy and constantly getting the run around.
