Middle Tennessee State University Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Michael

Board of Regents for Tennessee is cutting funding for the school, making the degree I'm earning as useful as one I could have printed for myself. Of course this is happening a full two years into me taking out loans and attending the program so I have no choice but to transfer and lose a ton of credits or just keep going. As for the school itself? The campus is dead on the weekends, which makes sense, because there's no sense of community when your school boasts the thousands of students that MTSU claims to have.

Parking is a big hassle.

Courtney

Parking!! Teachers have been given more parking spots than students, but most of them are only on campus 3 days a week. There is never a place for students to park, and people constantly fight over parking spots. The lack of parking availability causes students to be late for class, and on occasion discourages them from going to class everyday.

If you are not in a sorority or fraternity, you are pretty much looked down apon. Frats and Sororities are like a cult on this campus! They will act like they are your friends during rush, but if you dont make it, they will never talk to you again! I personally don't like to drink, that is why I am not in a sorority. Sororities aren't as bad with drinking here as frats are. They are ALWAYS drinking. You never hear anything about what they are doing in the community.

It is impossible to find parking. The student population has far outgrown the campus that houses it. You have to get to campus at least 20 minutes early to park, and even earlier if you plan on taking the shuttle, because they may be full or bogged down by heavy campus traffic.

Katherine

The parking is horrible. The campus is a bigger one, and the university closed off parking spaces on the campus that used to be accessible to students. They are supposed to be used by teachers, but there are still valuable spots that remain unused.

Kelly

Off campus prices for apartments.

As with many institutions, progress can sometimes take longer than you want, but MTSU tends to be quite slow in instituting new policies that bette the environmental wellbeing of the campus, students, and dining facilities. Campus could benefit from speedier legislation without having to run through all the red tape that so often slows things down.
