MiraCosta is an excellent place to learn. Although it is a community college and is very small, it is easier to connect with teachers and classmates to find the help necessary to achieve academic success. They have all types of programs and are always looking for ways to get students to participate in events contributing to the better of the community.

The professors are great and actually show that they really care about their students. Class sizes are relatively small so you can still get the one on one instruction feeling with your instructor. They're super willing to help you out if you have any questions and just really want to see their students succeed. Overall great campus!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I really appreciate how much effort Miracosta puts towards their students. The counselors are very empathetic towards your needs and there are many programs offered to help students with transferring and careers. I also appreciate the attitude that many of the students hold in comparison to other community colleges. While some colleges are full of people who aren't taking college that seriously, Miracosta is filled with students who are future oriented and doing everything they can to succeed in life.

My overall opinion of this school is that it is a great community college that offers a diverse and abundant range of fields and opportunities. There are so many options that are open to students with so many different goals that there is very little they don't offer.

MiraCosta College is a great college if you need time to prepare for the 4 year university experience and/or have financial troubles at a 4 year university. Either way, MiraCosta caters to a very diverse population, even those who aren't freshman out of high school (ESPECIALLY veterans). Although social life is lacking and it is quite difficult for introverts to make friends, MCC will provide you a great education at a very affordable price. I have grown a lot my first year here, even with having learning disabilities and anxiety disorder.

Miracosta College is a very nice school, small but very friendly. The staff are very kind maybe with the exception of 1 or 2 who I've interacted with. You can ask anyone for help and they'll be happy to help you. The school is in a very beautiful location in Oceanside, CA, it overlooks the ocean as well as a nice view of the mountains.

The Power and Ability to Set Goals at Mira Costa

When I graduated from Rancho Buena Vista High School in 2010, I was extremely unsure of what I was going to experience during my next steps in education. After trying to decide between several California State Universities , I eventually decided I would attend Mira Costa Community College first, and work toward transferring into a CSU or UC. As I began my first classes in the fall of 2010, I found myself pleasantly surprised at how well I was able to adapt to Mira Costa's own brand of college life. The class sizes were small, the teachers were constantly engaging students throughout the class, and my classmates were extremely down to earth and goal oriented. After becoming friends with many of my classmates, I realized how truly diverse the students were at Mira Costa. There were single mothers working full time toward nursing certificates, Veterans pursuing pre-requisites for business degrees, and even established professionals simply taking classes to continue learning. I was highly motivated by the students around me, and I spent many hours working with counselors at Mira Costa. Of the three colleges I have attended, Mira Costa's counseling center stands out as one of the best and most effective I have worked with. The counselors don't "simply talk to you", they "work with you". This means that they actively help you determine your long term goals by engaging in the research with you, and providing you with the roadmap and tools to accomplish your goals. The counselors at Mira Costa also go above and beyond by treating you like as a life learner, not just a young college freshman. There are often misconceptions that community colleges don't provide the same level of inspiration and academic vigor as 4 Year Universities. After attending Mira Costa, I couldn't disagree more. I loved my time at Mira Costa, and I can honestly say that it helped me realize my ability to set goals, pursue them, and accomplish them.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would have told myself to take my time and look more in depth at my future options. To look at what different colleges had to offer and not just take the easy path that was right ahead of me. I would have said not to be afraid to take the time I need to be sure and to be ready. If you need a year to work, take it. If you need a year to travel, do it. If you need some time to know who you are, go discover. Don't let the world tell you who you are or what you need to define yourself by. Go find your happiness and take your time defining who you are. You will find your way and you can enjoy life as you do it.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

That it would be lonely so that I could have prepared for that.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The advice I would have given to myself as a high school senior would have been to slow down and make a plan for myself. At seventeen I was engaged to be married, flunking out of high school with a cumulative GPA below a whole number and working as much as possible so that I could spend money on things I didn't need. If I had known how much I was setting myself back I'm sure I would have tried to change my ways to prevent years being wasted between high school and college. At the end of my high school experience I was ready for a break, for a breath and for trying something different. It could have been college. If I could talk to my former self now I would say that high school is nothing like college. In college you have the power to choose your classes, guide your future and control your destiny. Had I started my college transition earlier I might have had my degree by now. Since I can't go back and talk to my former self, I would rather tell high schoolers now to start as soon as they can.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about Mira Costa College is the fact that it is a school that is inexpensive enough to attend, and easy enough to apply for and navigate that there is no good reason for anyone lacking an education to not go here. In Maryland, where I grew up, even with residency the local community college costs five times what it does at MCC. I feel that for the money I spend at my school I am getting a quality education and am able to explore different subjects freely.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Anyone should be able to attend this school or any other. If I were to say that people who didn't do well in high school shouldn't attend, then I would be counting myself out. If I were to say that people who have poor study habits, or took time away from school after high school shouldn't attend then I would be counting myself out again. Everyone deserves a chance at bettering their mind and life. Had I been excluded from attending this college for any reason I may never have gone back to school.
