What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Hey it’s you from the future, here to give you some advice about making the transition into Montgomery Community College. First of all feel out all the clubs and activities that you like, but only chose at most two because your grades will suffer if you dedicate yourself to too many activates. Signing up for 8am classes is fine as long as they’re gen-ed classes because you’ll find yourself struggling to keep up with harder classes that early, you know how you are unfocused too early in the morning. That procrastination habit was cute in high school where you could just breeze past most of your assignments, but PLAN OUT EVERTHING AND READ AHEAD!!!!! Leave a half hour early before your first class just in cases there is unforeseen traffic. Most importantly, sign up for all your classes as early as possible to get the best possible schedule and professors. You are the only thing that can stop you from being successful in college, not your professors, not your parents, not other students, not your friends.

The rigorous scholarship that Montgomery College offers, called the Montgomery Scholar's Program, has been one of the best experiences in my life so far. By combining four classes of World Music, World History, World Literature, and World Philosophy in the first year, it is as if it gives the students new eyes, mouths, ears, and noses with which to perceive the world. By undergoing the formidable journey of writing a twenty page paper on the topic of globalization in the second year, it allows the students to apply their newfound knowledge to the local, the national, the world.
Read all 16 answers What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?
I would consider the worst thing about the school is the campus. The arrangement of buildings and environment are not positives for students to enjoy. The lay out of the campus has the buildings very far apart not to mention that the while in the hall ways the numbering of the class rooms makes it very difficult to find specific classrooms. The environment of the campus is not the most appealing due to the fact that the buildings need renovations and the surroundings needs maintenance.

Something that is unique about my school is its constant growth, both curriculum wise and physically. Montgomery College is constantly expanding its class offerings to include more diverse options for its student body. The college is constantly kindling new partnerships with other colleges and universities both here in the states and overseas. As far as the physical aspect of the school itself, every semester one of the campuses has a building either being built or being renovated. The college is constantly improving its environment to better supply what its students need in order to excel.

Before coming to Montgomery College I wish I had done more research about colleges that offer online degree programs. The great thing about Montgomery College is it is affordable, but because of my three children and schedule I prefer to take online courses only. Montgomery College offers many online courses, yet they don't currently offer an Associate Degree program that can be obtained completely through online study. With this knowledge I probably would have started my college education where I could obtain my degree completely online.

Read all 8 answers What's the most frustrating thing about your school?
I think the most frustrating this about Montgomery College is that the teachers are not as engaging with the students as I would hope they would be. Given, it may only be the teachers that I have chosen, but I have been here for about 2 years now. They seem to be more focused on just powerpoints and lectures and leave the rest up to the students. If there was more interaction I think that people would enjoy sticking around and forming more study groups.

The science classes are fun especially as the labs are so tacitly aligned with lecture/discussion. Concepts that looked alien during the lecture crystallize better when the lab is done say the same or next day. Great professors make it even more fun.
There is a health level of competition and I admire the fact that the greater percentage of students aim for A's.
