My advice is to let your child be able to explore their options before entering the right field of which they want to study first.

Some Advice that I would give parents and students about finding the right college and making the most of their college experience is, to the parents you should have an active role in the college your child choses. Sometimes as future stundents we choose schools based on the wrong things such as parties, sports and extra curricular activites. All these ideas are wonderful, but should not be your main choice in deciding a college to attend. Students should focus more on the retention rate, graduation rate, acrediablity, and last but not least the student teacher ratio. Students when you first walk on that campus get to know your fellow classmates and school mates. Making friends before you start a particular college will allow you to make the most of your college experience. And lastly Get INVOLVED!!! Weither it be with the Student Government or a social club, this will allow your resume to expand and open up new doors for you. Always remember time management is an essential key to making sure you actually get to stay in school. So learning how to balance your time now will work out for you in the end.

Make sure its the right college for you and if you know what you are going to major in and go by that to pick the right college to attend.

Heather

I would say go to as many college visits as possible. Make sure you ask the student teacher ratio, so that you can have a good idea of how many students will be in one classroom. Ask about financial aid and if you can apply for private loans or not. When you first start college try to join at least one organization, club and or activitey so that you can get to know other students and make new friends. Talk to advisors, deans and professors and get there opinion on that school and how that school operates towards students. And overall make sure you have fun, You only experinece college once on campus for an undergraduate degree so make the most of it.

David

Make sure you visit the school you want to go to before you apply decide to attend. If you do not like the way the school is laid out or how the atmosphere is then you should not attend.

Karimah

As a student who made her own decisions about what college/university to attend, I would suggest that parents allow your student to make their own decision about what school they would like to attend, and students insist that you have a say so in the process. Making the most of your college experience has a lot to do with making the choice on your own, and it is a part of growing up as well. Get involved on campus, in everything that you can get involved with, because you can meet people and network, and the more that you are involved with, the greater your chances are to be successful after you graduate.
