Describe the students at your school.

I think the only student that might feel out of place at owu would be the loner type, but then again they feel out of place anywhere. i don't know, it's really easy to find your kind of people at owu. theres a group for everyone. i guess another kind of student that would feel out of place would be someone who is used to big city life. i know a few people who get bored with the small town life of owu, but they find stuff to get involved with. most students wear jeans and t-shirts to class. some people dress a little more formal, but that's just how their personalities are, you can basically wear whatever you're comfortable in. almost no one wears pajamas to class though, which was popular in some other schools i visited. all types of students interact. it's kind of funny when you add someone on facebook and look at the mutual friends that you have, and you're just like "i had no idea that they even knew them" because it's amazing how everyone is connected. There aren't really designated tables. there are plenty of places to eat and most people just drift around and visit with all their different friends. nothing is really set in stone, you can basically sit wherever you want. i would say that lower and upper class are the prevalent financial backgrounds at owu. lower being the biggest. almost everyone i know is here on scholarship, it would be almost impossible to pay for it otherwise. the students are extremely politically aware, especially with the primaries going on. everyone's choice of favorite candidate is always in your face. it's always interesting to watch people's facebook statuses (stati? i don't know..) change with the election.

OWU is very open when it comes to the types of students. Most kids including my self kids wear what ever is comfortable to class but people dont really care. Alot of kids play sports here which is something you may or may not be into. Even if you dont play a sport there's always different clubs and groups that you can join where you can go and meet a number of different people. I would say that mostly the student body is from the east coast and are normally pretty wealthy, but along with those kids there are alot of students from the surrounding Ohio area. Overall i would say there are alot of differernt types of students along with fun and intresting student programs.

OWU has a range of students, ranging from the seemingly mindless social bugs to the brooding and dark emo children; one can find a niche, whatever that niche may be. I am personally dissapointed in the inactivity of the GBLT group on campus, particularly since OWU has a fairly large populace of GBLT members. Another complaint against them is not mentioning other orientation groups such as asexuals who may feel left out. OWU might not have a huge percentage of foreign students in the student body, but they're scattered everywhere and usually very nice and talkative, though everyone seems to group with their comfort zone, and well-mixed groups culturally and racially are sadly uncommon, though this could most likely be said of anywhere. A lot of OWU students seem to hail from Ohio; I know more than a few from northern ohio in particular.

Student Body: A Melting Pot 1. The student body, in my four years here, has gotten more and more liberal, outspoken, and ethereal. 2. The Campus Crusade for Christ is still going strong as a combative force almost to the liberals... such "bible bangers" are somewhat invasive and very creepy. 3. Prepsters stick together with the lacrosse team, boarding school products, east coasters, and large portion of greeks. Dominate the main floor of the library. Girls rock pearls, pastels, Lily Pulitzer dresses in the spring and argyle in the fall. Sweatpants-clas Ohio/midwestern girls (often jocks) discriminate against east coast girls for getting "too dressed up for class" but the response is usually, "what's the harm in taking pride in one's appearence/having a dress code isn't a crime, slobs!" One of the material/dress code brands that actually brings together the rival populations is Forever 21: affordable but trendy/hip store in Polaris where "skank tanks" and minidresses are the perfect, accessible commodities for weekly bar functions in Delaware.

A lot of OWU students are from Ohio, but there are also many from other states, and a decent amount are international. The campus has a lot of diversity and is great for meeting all kinds of new people.

Ben

There is no overcasting group of people at owu. As long as you are outgoing and accepting, you will find yourself in situations, meeting new people everyday, which you will truly benefit from.

Alexander

I know that currently OWU students from Ohio make up less than 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student body. Many students come from East coast states. I feel that the racial environment on campus has improved a great deal over the four years I was there. As freshman there was an incident involving white students and the house of black culture, but the school was quick to end it and expel the guilty students. A new head of minority students, Terree Stevenson, has worked a great deal to increase the amount of support available to students of color. Additionally, the LGBT group on campus experienced a great deal of support from the newly formed presidential committee focused on student life. Students on campus tend to be in the center politically.

Becca

I don't think any one would feel out of place at OWU. We have international students, the nerdy kids, the party-ers, the druggies, the upper class kids, the lower class kids, and the kids that have to study their ass off just to maintain a C average. With this kind of diversity it's easy to find your own set of friends that you will have for the rest of your life.

Diverse--that's all I can say

maria

OWU does have some groups- many of the international students chose to hang out with each other or with other students from their native country. There are distinguishable groups on campus along the lines of economic status, greek affiliation, and race. 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of OWU students are from Ohio, 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} are international, and the rest are mostly from the East Coast although there are people from all over the US. Most students are from a more priveledged background. The majority of the campus leans to the left. Class apparel ranges from sweatpants and hoodies to nice jeans.

Stacy

owu has a diverse student body. students of all backgrounds are there. the majority is liberal and the feminist group is very prominent.

Devin

Lot's of Ohio kids, LOTS of (richass, cokehead) Connecticut kids, and lots of foreign kids. Most people have a "dont give a fuck attitude" as they were not that involved in the college selection process and therefore ended up at OWU because OWU offered them money for no reason. upper middle, upper class, and middle (in that order) socioeconomic backgrounds. Most of the student body is politically aware, but less than 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} is active and most of them reside in the Small Living Units community. Predominantly center and left leaning, very few right wings but the surrounding area is pretty blue collar.

Alex

I love the student body at OWU. OWU has helped me learn about other people's cultures and ethnic backgrounds. I had three roommates this year, one was from Hanoi, Vietnam, the next was from Jakarta, Indonesia and the last was from California. From these three guys I learned a lot about the different life styles around the country and around the world. This year I joined Sigma Chi and I met more internationals. The population of international students is outstanding.

Brenna

As a whole, I find that Ohio Wesleyan is an accepting campus. There are some pockets of people that aren't as tolerant, but for me, the groups of people that I hang out with are so accepting that those few people don't really bother me.

Lucy

OWU is diverse in almost all aspects. We have a wide range of students from different contries, religious backgrounds, financial situations, and political views. I have friends from all walks of life at OWU and that is what makes it special, there is a place and groupd for all types.

Danielle

OWU's student body is very accepting, though there are definitely some cliques. There's a sort of social hierarchy, with the east coasters at the top, and the science nerds at the bottom. If you're somewhere in the middle, you can kind of move between the groups, though sometimes it isn't easy.
