Temple University Top Questions

The worst thing about this school is the lack of student jobs. I have been applying to help pay my tuition, but I have yet to find one, though I have applied for many. Being a freshman doesn't help.

The worst thing about this school is that it there is more attention put on students pursuing careers in business and law and not enough attention on students in the sciences. The classrooms and facilities in the business and law schools are brand new and clean, whereas the classrooms and facilities in the science buildings are old and somewhat dirty. The faculty in the business and law schools are also more attentive to the students' needs than the faculty in the science departments. Because of this bias, not many students in the sciences are getting a fully enjoyable academic experience.

Cant get enought financial aid. My mother is not working and father making the minimum. There arent enought grants given. The location of the school is in a proverty stricken area of Philadelphia. One street will have more than 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of their homes gutted out while two streets over are remodeled and beautiful. There are many streets with the unfortunate and drug addicted living there. Its communicated that you never walk the streets alone.

Sometimes when I am trying to have a problem solved, I am forced to call or email many different people until I finally get a response or reach the person who can help me. The issues are resolved most of the time, but usually after a lot of extra effort on my part.

The campus is surrounded by poverty stricken neighborhoods.

I would consider the worst thing about my school to be the size of the student population. Because of Temple's size, it is very difficult to be on a first name basis with your professors, to know your peers and to be a priority.

The worst thing about temple is probably how empty campus is on the weekend, most people go home or sleep all day because they party all night. Besides that there is nothing to complain about Temple is an amazing place, and im an out of state student so thats saying something.

The worst thing about my school is finding parking if you are getting to school by car, so I suggest taking public transportation is your best bet.

The worst thing about Temple is that for some conservative students, such as myself, students tend to be very aggresive towards. The teachers do not act the same way though. In fact, many of the teachers push students with opposing view points to be heard in class. Also, the teachers make sure to stress that both liberal and conservative viewpoints are valid political stances. This helps a student fit in with their fellow classmates since Temple University students are very politcally driven. Other than this, sometimes it is hard to find a computer that works or a stronf wireless signal.

I would consider the surronding area around Temple University to be the worst thing about it. The security and campus lighting is very good, but the area directly outside of campus has a very high crime rate.

One thing that I would consider the worst about Temple University would have to be their gen-ed requirements, their breath courses are the killers. It is required that you fulfill 11 gened courses just because that's required of the university.While trying to complete your courses for your major let alone, which is alot, you still have to make sure you fulfill the university's gened requirements. Not to mention the gened courses are harder than your major courses. So this is what I would consider to be th worst thing about Temple University.

The bookstore is the only thing that I do not like. I feel that the books are over priced difficult to get books elsewhere with the small amout of information provided on the bookstore website about a specific book.

The advisor staff. They gave contradictory information to peers which usually required one or two classes after what they had already believed to be their last semester. I watched many peers receive false information from advisors; in fact I received some myself. Their turnover rate seemed to be high and training almost nonexistent. This situation did increase individual independence as the best of us figured out how to graduate on our own.

The worst thing about Temple is the meal plans. You are only allowed to use your meal plan one meal per meal time. This would be fine except for the fact that if you have a meal plan for 15 meals per week and are left with 7 unused meals on the last day you can not use them mulitple times during a selected meal time you can only use one meal during that time period. It waste your meals and wastes money that you paid for those meals.

The worst thing about Temple University has nothing to do with the school itself, but rather it's urban setting, where many students can, in one minute find themselves safely traveling from one class to the next, and in just a matter of seconds, find themselves walking dangerously onto the territory of gangs or the socially unfriendly. The school does encourage students to travel with friends and in large groups, so many don't have to experience the negative side of urban living, which may with time presrent itself to be inevitable.

The informality of the students. Many students here do not seem to take their studies seriously, and as a result, this attitude tends to rub off on you. Many students sleep during lectures, text, play on their computers etc. This is extremely irritating to those who are there to learn and engage in discussion.

I think the worst thing about Temple University is their Chemistry department. I transferred from the University of Pittsburgh to Temple my second semester as a Chemistry major. I did not do very well in my chemistry class at Temple. I believe the teachers and teaching assistants need to take a more hands on approach to helping their students succeed. I have now switched majors from Chemistry to Physical Anthropology and am doing much better with my courses.

Temple University seems to be a great university that in-holds great experience. I haven't really experienced anything that was outstandingly bad because anything that I am in need for, there would usually be lots of sources. The only thing I can say that I've had a problem with attending Temple University, is the Financial Aid. That was really a kick in the behind trying to figure out how to pay for the extra dues that I had. Temple is very expensive, and financial aid was probably the worst thing I've dealt with so far attending Temple.

Temple had a reputation as being a school for the untraditional students, those that I described in the latter part of the first question. However, over the years Temple has saught to change those dynamics, and it has increasingly admitted more and more of the traditional types of students. Unfortunately, this has led to an overcrowding of the main campus along with a huge backlog in administrative procedures such as seeing your advisor or transferring credits.

After having completed only one semester at Temple thus far, the one complaint or worst thing about my school that I have encountered is that it's difficult to find out about various social organizations and clubs. I've always been a believer in being a well-rounded person, academically and socially. As a result, coming into Temple, I wanted to discover the clubs that would be of interest to me and beneficial in some way and that would contribute to my overall college experience. I haven't found a consolidated form or online resource of Temple's numerous clubs.

The worst thing about my school is that it is in somewhat of a bad area. At night I dont really feel to safe and always prefer to walk with a a big group of friends.

The staff in many of the different buildings (especially student housing office) are irresponsible and impolite. Can't depend on things getting done when you need them. Last year I lived in a dorm and the room flooded due to a broken pipe over winter break -Temple University needed to go through insurance to reinburse me for the damaged items - it's been twelve months and after several attempts to contact them I still haven't had any feedback. Probably the biggest negative about the school and very unprofessional.

Temple is a big school and there are a lot of people on campus all the time. It gets a little crowded, which sometimes you can love or hate.

I truly do not believe anything is negative about Temple University. I have enjoyed being a student there my entire time and feel that my education is great. The only positive would be if every professor could have an office of their own to office hours to be more flexible but beside that I do not have any complaints.

The lack of the variety of food choices. ALthough we are in a city, the places that take meal plans do not give much variety.

Temple's largest downfall is how impersonal it's student advising is; it is very rare for a student to meet with the same advisor twice in a row.

The worst thing about Temple is the absence of real work opportunity and faculty assistance in networking. I followed up after my first year with the head of my department and tried to network with her for jobs and prospective opportunities and she gave me the advice of working for Habitat for Humanity, while I work a basic nine to five in order to afford schooling. It does not work, you pay H4H money in order to work for free in these times its bogus.

The social life is so great that sometimes it is hard to focus on your academics.

The university needs to do a better job of checking up on some of the professors. Some professors dont speak english very well or have aged so much that they can no longer teach the class effectively or understand the questions they are asked. If a professor teaches a class poorly and fails students, there is nothing a student can do about their grade apart from taking the class again with another professor.

The worst thing about my school is that the surrounding off-campus parts of the school are unsafe, which like I said before is very unfortunate. I expierence that first hand, as I lived in an off-campus house and my friends and I were robbed at gunpoint. The whole expierece was very frightening, I hope no one ever expierences what my friends and I did. It is unfortuante that college students who are there to get an education have to be 100 percent aware of their surroundings once they venture off-campus becauase it's not safe off-campus.

The worst part about my school is the size. Some of the classes have hundreds of kids which makes it harder to learn and easier to skip class. Also, since it is such a well known school, the curriculum is hard...and it keeps getting harder.

The school is right in the middle of the city so it is hard to have a sense of school spirit because your located in a major city with about 10 other schools located in the same area.

The worst thing about TU is the financial aid office. They really don't seem to care and want to help students when we go with problems to them.

I would have to say, the counseling services aren't the best. Advice wise advisors are great. But it can be a huge hassle to get an appointment. Sometimes you have to show up as early as 7:30 am to get an appointment for that day, and even if you do make it to sign up early, once the time slots are gone you have to wait until the next day to try again, because they won't let you make an appointment for the following day even though you are already there. More finanical aid never hurt either!

There are a lot of really, really, dim people. Temple lets too many dumb people in.

Things can vary. Some professors are truly amazing while others suck.

Available on campus housing was limited and privately owned housing apartments were overpriced given their quality. It was hard for me to fully focus on my studies because of my financial situation and having to find a way to afford to stay in school. I had to personally work with the now retired financial aid director to find a way to stay in school. I was able to make it through, but it seriously did affect my psyche and just in school overall. I really hope that my future in graduate school is not as much of a struggle.

The surrounding neighborhood is kind of rough, so it seems unsafe but campus security does a wonderful job in assisting all those on campus grounds.

I honestly have no complaints about temple

Student financial services takes you on a wild goose chase trying to figure out your bills against your financial aid packages and they don't tell you about every scholarship, grant, loan you can apply for. Dining services could be a lot better as well. The dance department is not up to par.
