Texas A & M University-College Station Top Questions

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Daniel

The tradition. Everyone says its dumb, but let me tell you, they are wrong. Because looking from the outside in you can't understand it, and looking from the inside out you can't explain it.

William

The Christian environment even though it's not a Christian school. Pretty much everyone on campus treats everyone with respect. There are plenty of ways to get involved and the students are outgoing and helpful.

Mitchell

Texas A&M is unique because of the overwhelming sense of unity among all Aggies. If you walk anywhere on campus, it is not uncommon to be greeted by a dozen people with a simple “Howdy” along the way. Every single Aggie respects each other, and at any time you can ask a stranger for help and they will stop what they are doing and lend a hand. The most amazing sign of this unity is at Silver Taps, when all the students come together one night each month and honor any Aggies who died the month before.

Chase

Definitely the friendliness. Anyone and everyone is willing to help you if you're lost, hold a door for you, or just say "Howdy" as you walk by. I love that atmosphere we have here.

Lindsay

TAMU has one of the friendliest campuses; students regularly went out of their way to show me around campus during my orientation. No where else are you encouraged to say "Howdy!" to complete strangers. Speaking of, no one holds the sacred institute of 'traditions' more dear than an Aggie; in fact, anything done at least twice is officially a tradition, and must be done again next year. Finally, once an Ag, always an Ag. The loyalty expressed by former students truly makes A&M unlike any other school.

Joey

The most unique thing about my school would be the strong school spirit. Nearly everyone who attends this university is very proud to be apart of this community and that is reflected in the overwhelming attendance at school sporting events and the alumni network.

Cody

The tradions at A&M are exceptional. The plethora of ideas generated by former aggies, as well as present ones, is ample and from what I am guessing infinite. From Aggie Muster and Silver Taps (both done to honor deceased Aggies) to the 12th Man ( the idea formed that every Aggie stands beside one another as a team, and is willing to help those in need) and so much more, it is what makes my experience here at A&M worthwhile. This was the main reason I cam besides academics. It is what makes A&M the best.

Tessa

The most prominent feature that made Texas A&M University stand out above all other universities is the friendliness of almost every person on the campus and the surrounding community. It is not uncommon to hear someone say "Howdy", the traditional Aggie greeting, when walking into a facility on campus or even a bus taking students to campus. The sense of being welcome here is one of the best things a college student can experience.

Jessica

Everyone here is so accepting and friendly, especially my Department of Soil and Crop Sciences. I am sure that the other schools I considered last year were not as balanced as a genre either. Here you have city folks and country folks and everyone in between and they all get along so well. I also think my school is unique because of it's numbers as well as network of people. When they see your college ring ("aggie ring") they immdiately connect with you and it helps you get your foot in the door.

Molly

When I visited Texas A&M, I just felt like I belonged there and I could see myself attending the school. There were other schools that I visited where I could have been happy, but I really felt like I was in my element here and that I would be happiest here. In addition, it was only about three hours away from home, which was good incase I ever needed to go home for any reason.

Denise

The short answer is: everything! There is a network here that encourages former, present, and future aggies to achieve huge goals in every aspect of life. This struck me head-on before I even entered College Station for the first time. At the National Youth Gathering of Lutherans this past summer in New Orleans, a man stood on top of a fire engine in the middle of 40,000 people. With his megaphone, he looked straight at me (wearing a Class of 2013 shirt) and yelled, "Hey, you," pointed to his aggie ring, and smiled. There is nothing like it.

Danielle

The first thing I noticed at the admissions processing at Texas A&M was how much everyone cared about you. You weren't just another number like every other school I had applied to. Each councilor, advisor, teacher, all wanted to get to know you personally. Everyone kept telling me "we want you to succeed," which made me feel even more certain I wanted to go here.

Sharleen

At Texas A&M you never feel too far from home, the school is great, the teachers are the best, and everyone on campus makes you feel at home. Once your in A&M your invited into the family and the traditions of this school stay close to your heart. When entering College Station you can tell how dedicated the town is to the school, to me A&M isnt in College Station, College Station is in A&M.

Marta

Texas A&M University in College Station is a unique university compared to others because of their honory codes that the students honor. "An aggie will not lie, cheat or steal...". This code is a basis for all students attending the university. Texas A&M also has a recognized veterinarian program.

Kristina

Texas A&M is a very tradition oriented school. We often joke that if it happens twice it becomes a tradition. The great thing about this is that it creates a close knit community with a sense of pride and belonging that is shared by everyone. Aggies stand behind their school and each other no matter what, and it is wonderful to know that there is always someone close by who is willing to help you reach your goals.

Kaitlin

What I enjoy most about Texas A&M is that everyone has this sense of unity and pride. Becoming an Aggie means becoming part of a family, something bigger than yourself. I like how there are a lot of traditions and everyone follows them. Everyone greets eachother with a "Howdy!" so though it's a huge campus, it has a friendly, small town feel that makes you feel right at home. I believe this is what makes A&M unique and enjoyable, not to mention just what I needed to make me less nervous as a freshman.

Helena

Texas A&M University is unique because of their long standing traditions that bring the aggie community together. The university not only recognizes each individual but also values each persons opinion. The university also values and emphasizes that an aggies never lies , cheats, or steals in any way, and every student seems to follow suit.

Frank

At Texas A&M University, not only does the school provide excellent academic programs, it also gives you a sense of closure in such a friendly environment such as this one. Every individual on campus is open and friendly to each other never afraid to meet new people. We are one big family. The Aggie Family. Other schools, everybody keeps to themselves and their own lives and nobody cares for one another, but the environment here is completely different.

Melinda

The atmosphere makes you feel as if you are in your home town. People are very friendly and outgoing and are always willing to give a hand. Instead of saying "hi" to just your friends, everyone on campus gives a smile and a pleaseant "Howdy" to their fellow students as they pass on campus. It really makes you feel welcome especially at such a large university.

rocio

A&M is a large school that feels much smaller than it is. It is full of traditions and spirit that makes it unique and creates a bond between all of the students that attend it.

Shannon

A&M's school spirit and tradition is unparalleled by any other university i've considered. From the first moment i walked around the campus i felt at home. Everyone has a friendly face, and it's not strange to strike up a conversation with a stranger on the street.

Laura

The Spirit and Tradition at Texas A&M University cannot be found anywhere else in the world. For example, the student body is known as the 12th man. It relates back to one of the first football games where a student was called from the stands to help his team. So we stand every football game ready to help, and we stand everyday for eachother. There is a true bond between all Aggies, and I am so excited to be apart of it. We are the Aggies, the Aggies are we.

Kirsten

The friendliness and sense of family and community at this school is unlike any other I have ever experienced.

Brittany

You are not just a number

Hermien

A&M has the most school spirit I've ever seen. It not only abides to numberous traditions, it also values respect and academic integrity greatly above anything else. The pre-med program I'm in is unlike any other available. It is extremely chalenging yet very fullfilling. In sum, A&M is a wonderful school who's values and traditions exceed that of any other school.

Nate

I am attending Lonestar Community College wich was not on the list so I put in the university I hope to transfer to. The college is unique in that even as a community college it offers so many things I wouldn't expect till I attended a university. Things like a full work out facility and a library that is linked to the Harris County library. The professors here all seem to be very knowledgable on the subject they teach.

Ashley

My School is unique in that we have our traditions and we will fight tooth and nail to keep them.

MAYRA

School Spirit. Academic integrity,

Nicole

What does it mean to be a Texas Aggie? Being an Aggie means having overflowing school spirit and embracing traditions. We have a saying on campus if it happens twice it is a tradition. The Spirit of Aggieland is felt from the moment one sets foot on campus. We feel Texas A&M is one huge family, and with over 800 student organizations it isn't hard to be involved. When your an Aggie, your an Aggie for life. Everytime you leave College Station your guaranteed a stranger will nod your way to say Howdy and Gig'Em.

Amy

My school is very tradition oriented. There are still things that we do today that was starting when the school was first started. It creates a huge sense of community between current students, alumni, and even future students with an interest in the school. It creates a great network of people to later be associated with.

Ryan

The value of the traditions here on campus are so unique that the best way to describe the area we are in is Aggieland. We are the fightin' Texas ags and we mean business when it comes down to tradition.

Keele

We have the biggest and longstanding tradition of school spirit and a unique alumni network across the globe. We continue to branch out yearly, enveloping diverse objectives and unique people into the Aaggie spirit and way of life. We exude greatness and envelop all students with a friendless that eminates from even the farthest corners of campus. I can walk anywhere and find a friendly face; willing to help me anytime I need. This school pulled me in, making me feel like I had a unique purpose and a special place on campus. I love it at school.

Adria

There is an extremely strong sense of tradition and school spirit. There is little diversity, even though the university stresses their efforts to improve this situation. Football games are the biggest event in town. While the university is located in a small town, it has most of the amenities of a larger town or city.

Sarah

The traditions! We have so many traditions--it's unlike anything I've ever known. They accelerate school spirit and make everyone feel like they're part of A&M--like it's their home. I have been at A&M for a year and a half, and I still don't know all of the school traditions. It makes life here fun.

Erica

There is a sense that you belong there and you're not just going through the motions in order to recieve your education.

Amber

The school spirit is unlike any other and the traditions are old, new and always being added to. The students are extremely friendly and are not afraid to welcome visitors.

Brett

At this school it seems like your either a party/drinking lifestyle kind of person or your religious. Then there are both groups includes in frats and sororities. Football is important here.

Kiara

In comparison to other schools in the United States, Texas A&M University is unique because of many things - beginning with its history. The school began in 1867, allowing only men as Corps of Cadets in its ROTC program. In World War II, its ROTC program provided more men to help fight against the foreign threat for peace. Now the school allows women, along with a diverse student body of different ethnicities, cultures, languages, talents, and skills. Collectively, as Aggies we proudly the honor traditions that reflect a respect for its history and also fallen Aggies who attended A&M.

Diane

I absolutely love my school, and I cannot emphasize that enough. I know that thousands of current students and alumni feel the same way. Texas A&M University is rooted in tradition, and is marked by respect, friendliness, and hospitality. It is a welcoming environment that remembers the past, looks towards the future, and welcomes everyone into the Aggie community. I have several international student friends who have been welcomed to this school, and have gotten to know and love its traditions. Very few people leave Texas A&M without having been impacted by the Aggie spirit of giving service.

Josh

Our school is known for being extremely friendly and having tons of school spirit. Everyday you choose between twelve different maroon shirts to wear and when someone says "Howdy!" you reply with "HOWDY!" right back. My school thrives on tradition and its school spirit. We have a saying that goes "From the outside looking in you dont understand it; From the inside looking out, you cant explain it." Thats all I can say whenever people ask me about my school. Its the Aggie spirit and it is like no other school I've seen.

Aaron

Kelli

school spirit and family atmosphere is unbelievable and cannot be beaten anywhere

Paul

From the inside looking out, it really can not be explained. And from the ioutside looking in it can not be understood. This is the truth about my university and that is part of what makes it such a great place to get an education. The spirit that is in the traditions and the knowledge of the people who have been there before and the knowledge of the people who will go there after is just a combination of people to suceed in life and keep coming back to this wonderful place.

Although the football team has not been successful for the past few years, the students are still very supportive at every game.
