Texas Tech University Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Caroline

So far, my classmates here at Texas Tech are very intelligent young adults who are eager to learn and excel in the classroom.

Lindsay

Overall, my classmates are friendly, conscientious and hard-working indivduals.

Rachel

In most of my classes that I have already taken, sometimes its hard to get to know other students because there's three hundred other kids in your class. But in my smaller one, all of the kids were really nice because they were in the same situation as me.

Guy

My classmates are generally nice, but tend to keep to themselves unless sharing notes or working on projects together.

Noah

Classmates for the most part are hard working and because very few of the professors have attendance policies the students who show up to every class really want to be there and for that reason tend to do well.

Andrew

My classmates are fun, independent, self-sufficient artists who gauge success not on what others think of their work, but on how hard they worked to be where they are.

Tia

My classmates this semester were all very nice and helped to stimulate learning in the classroom. They contributed to the discussions and brought new ideas and thoughts to the table. My classmates were all willing to share their help each other out and even formed study groups together. I made many friends this semester through my classes. Everyone was very polite and respectful and honestly interested in making new friends. Their willingness to bond together made studying easy and fun.

Amanda

My classmates are usually very serious but they are also funny and laidback.

Harrison

They want a good job when they graduate.

Kaylee

Students are quite varied. Some party every weekend night and some never party. Also, almost all are very concentrated on their studies while some, like at any other college, go because either they are being forced to go by parents or go because they have the money but neither of these types put all they have into their education. With both types of students, the ones who do and do not study, come from places all over the United States and beyond, and can have very interesting conversations (while some still fall asleep in class).

Latisha

My classmates are pretty quiet, unless they have questions, or unless they know someone else in the class.

Kishan

Very friendly, considerate and helpful.

Jessica

The students in my class are usually hardworking and attentive but there are always your inconsiderate and annoying students that are distracting during class.

Deanna

My family away from home.

Lindsey

My classmates are eager to learn, well informed, and very interested in not only learning the course material but finding its application to both us as individuals and the "real world."

The people in my classes (not neccessarily my major) are always willing to help in whatever way possible by getting your number and offering to help you in other classes or study with you for exams, and letting you know if they ahve taken other classes in your major that you need and who is and isn't a good teacher to take from.

Most of the students I go to school with have rich parents, and they do not let you forget it. There is a great deal of partying and not a lot of studying. Everyone wants to have fun, but they do not worry about what comes next. They are spoiled , and most have no idea what the real world is like.

Rebekah

My classmates come in a variety of packages: very intelligent-average, American-international, women-men with a smattering of character qualities, but most are friendly, cooperative, and helpful.

Clint

Tech is mostly a conservative, white school which I love. There is plents of diversity if you want to find it at a large school like Tech, but there was a reason I didn't want to go to a school where I would be the minority. I was at a greek party last year and players from the basketball team were there, so obviously the different social groups can mix. You can generally pick out the greek students with the polo and fishing shirts, kahki shorts or jeans with boots, and costa del mar sunglasses. This doesn't bother me because I like to fish, most of us will be wearing nicer clothes in 20 years anyway, and I am from Texas so you need to at least own a pair of boots. I feel like most "normal" people would fit in at Tech, but you will see more white kids here than at most big schools. It's nice because most people at Tech live several hours away from Lubbock, so you can get away from high school life and learn to meet different people. Most of my friends who went to college closer to my hometown end up back home every other weekend, and unless your from Lubbock this isn't an option at Tech. This is a great opportunity to get winged off your old high school friends and meet new people. It's also nice they make you live in the doorms as a freshman because you will meet so many people who are all looking for friends too.

Alex

Everyone is just different at Tech. You can be different and no one cares.

stephanie

Texas Tech's student body is mainly composed of White or Caucasian students. However, there are many Latino, Asian and African American students on campus too. Though Texas Tech is not vastly diverse, there is still diversity on campus. All different types of students interact, and most students would feel in place at Texas Tech. Most students at Texas Tech are conservative, though some are liberal.

Jamie

I bet almost everyone up at Tech get along with each other well. People who are very outgoing and easy to get along with are going to enjoy their time at Tech. Most of us are from Texas "the greatest state in the U.S".

Jessica

I would say the student body is divided in three groups: The athletes, the Greek students and the non-Greek students. A student who is quiet and a homebody would feel out of place here. The students are outgoing, super friendly and very active. The REC Center is a pretty popular place to gather and it has every type of sport you can imagine. There is a rock climbing wall in the middle, an indoor track, about ten basketball courts, a couple weight rooms, Pilates classes, a place to rent skis, tents, kayaks and snowboards, and even a place to get a massage. Like I said earlier, Greek life is huge at Tech. I’ve known a couple friends who came to Tech and didn’t pledge a fraternity or sorority and ended up transferring schools because they felt out of place. Most Tech students are from cities in Texas. We have a lot of people from Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, Austin, and San Antonio. There is also a large number of people from really small towns and a bunch that are from Lubbock. Students dress pretty casual when going to class. Flip flops and t-shirts on a warm day. The North Face jackets and Ugg boots is the popular winter look. Campus is right across from Broadway Street, which is the street most of the bars are on, and a lot of people walk there after class is done to get drinks or eat on the patio when it’s nice outside.

Sarah

The Texas Tech student body has everything, every type of group or stereotype so no matter what you should be able to find someone that you click with as long as you are willing to give it the effort. Most of the student body tends to dress more casual for classes and not many dress up. Students have come from all over to attend tech, but the most common that I heard personally was from the Dallas area.

Kellianne

I feel like tech is a typically white school.

Elizabeth

It is a Greek life at Tech!! I am not part of it...but it exists. Students wear nice clothing, if you can pay to go to college at Tech, you might as well look nice!! Professors are generally liberal, while, I believe, students are more conservative.

Ryan

Tech doesn't really have the most diverse student body. For the most part, it consists mainly of conservative straight caucasians with a few other races sprinkled here and there. There's not really any sort of discrimination between the students at Tech, though. They're surprisingly open-minded most of the time.

Cody

The student body is like family,we all look out for each other & the RA's are always available & ready to help out.

Bevan

Its great!!

Ashley

This is a conservative place. However their behaviors are anything but conservative. Most students were tshirts and jeans to class and ugg boots with shorts, which I have never understood but whatever. People that are not into acting like Paris Hilton may feel somewhat out of place, but everyone can find a group that they belong in. I would say that upper class SES students are usually the ones that come to TTU however there is some diversity depending on what part of the campus you are on. Students here think they are politically aware of what is going on however if you ask them to back up their comments most buckle and have no idea what they are really talking about OR they may think they are republican but everything they are saying and they want is clearly democrat but they would never admit that because they are "never wrong."

Connie

Race relations suck here. I could list all the sucky racist stuff that happened here but I will refrain. That's west Texas, that Lubbock, that's Tech. It sucks, people really believe the stereotypes here. Sorority and Fraternity's are the most annoying group of people because they walk around like they own Tech because their parents have money. The only problem is that they are the main reason the freshman dorms suck because they find joy in getting drunk all the time. You can make some amazing friends here though. I have second family at Tech. I have ventured out of my culture many times. I have a group of Indian friends, I have my Jesus crowd, white people, black people, everyone. The fact that Tech is so conservative has nothing to do with the fact that people are informed and has everything to do with the fact that people are following in mommy and daddy's shoes.

Alex

Overall, the student body is very diverse. I have met so many different people, and I have so many groups of friends that are alot of different.

Rachel

If you are not in a frat/ sorority, you might feel a little out of place.

craig

tech is like all schools mostly Caucasian but i do see some diversity we dont have any racial issues like people said i would have when i came over here for the most part everyone gets along greek life is still and will always be full of jerks spending daddy's money

Taylor

Every one is really nice and excepting.
