Driven to learn, grow, understand, and succeed.

heather

My classmates at UT Austin are all very intelligent and successful people. It is good to be around people that you know are striving to have a purpose in they life and the society they live in.

Brittany

My classmates are very studious and intelligent; a well-rounded group of diverse peers!

They definately study hard core and are overachievers, somewhat uptight as freshmen but they know when to relax and have fun when their brains are too overwhelmed.

Mercedes

My classmates are colorful, unique, caring, and non-judgemental.

Shivani

When I got to the university, I felt like everyone I met was in the top 1{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of their class but doesn't that make it better? You feel like a total retard all the time- why does he study for only 4 hours while I pull all nighters. Why is he making straight As? Where does he find the time to party and still make good grades? They're all leaders of clubs, they all know what they want to do with their lives. It's really motivating. In study groups there's always one smart one. Thank God.

Jerry

The student body is diverse, but crazily self-segregated. If you come to school looking to meet people of all different colors and from all walks of life, you might find it a bit challenging. The fraternities (IFC) and sororities are all white. Asian, Hispanic, and Black minorities co-exist, but do their own thing. The Business School has an Asian Business organization, a Hispanic one, and a Black one. Evangelical Christian groups are divided into Asian, Hispanic, white/Greek, and Black as well. Pre-Med associations? There's an Asian one for that. Being a big school, self-segregation is natural, but it is still a strange phenomenon. The athletes are treated like God's, especially the football and basketball players, and they tend to stick to themselves. The average SAT of UT football players according to a recent AP report was 945, 300 points lower than a regular student. The graduation rate is 49{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. it is disgusting how UT prioritizes athletics over academics.

Haydee

My classmates are a diverse group of people: some sit at the front everyday, eager for the professor's attention and others will be asleep, however most of the students are helpful individuals who can become your friends.

Mary

UT students have a lot of school pride.

Brittany

My classmates are students who are hardworking, just like me, that come from many different places.

Eric

The classmates that I associate with are all dedicated to their degrees and love what they have chosen to persue . They are fun loving and great friends who would bend over backwards to help each other out.

Stephen

A great majority of my classes have 800 or more students. To be honest, I don't personally know many of them. The ones I do know, take the classwork very seriously. UT is a very hard university. If you are not disiplined, focused and driven, there is a very slim chance of you being successful at UT.

Julie

My classmates can be cut-throat because I am in a competitive Business Honors Program. On the other hand, because we are in a tight-knit community with class sizes typical of a high school classroom, we really get to know one another and will form cliques.

Lee

They are very diverse and optimistic.

Catherine

I am surrounded by a generation of musical geniuses that inspire passion for music in everyone around them.

Ashley

I'm a minority at UT and I haven't experienced any racial issues. The make up of the school is majority caucasian with about 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} African American, 10-20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} Hispanic, 10-20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} Asian, etc. What's great is that at UT there are student organizations for just about every ethnicity and religion. The student body is very much laid back. You'll often time find students walking around in t-shirts and flip flop (the school uniform LOL). The atmosphere is really relaxing, the people are friendly and the campus is beautiful.

Jammal

My classmates are friendly, studious young men and women who are excited to help out other classmates with notes and study groups.

Rebecca

Everyone is determined, yet helpful, clever, and always generally relaxed but ready to have fun.

Jesse

LGBTQ groups are small and political. The supervisors rarely return phone calls or emails. If they do call you back you have to probe them for information which can be very annoying and frustrating. That happens a lot at UT At Austin because most people are too curt and busy to help you. Updates are rare. If anything occurs it's usually at a bar or at the campus but turn out is small. This is Texas and most people are not out of the closet due to shame, fear, and ridiculous religious oppression. If you are LGBTQ or an ethnic minority you will feel out of place. University of Texas at Austin is still highly traditional. LGBTQ is very left of center and creates noticeable tension within the diverse population. Most students come from traditional, conservative, and religious backgrounds. LGBTQ people are often times viewed as being as bad as pedophiles in Texas. Do you really want to go here if you are an out liberal? I don't think so. There is a good amount of political and social tensions because there are democrats, republicans, and other types mixed into the student population. Administration favors and takes sides with particular students over others. In my opinion that created a hostile environment that inhibited my learning.

Brett

The student body is extremely diverse at UT. Students come here from all over the world, and while most of them are from Texas there is still an interesting mix of personality on campus. People can be themselves when they're here which is why almost nothing is surprising to see on campus anymore. From funky clothes to singing out loud while walking to class, anything goes.

Chanel

Diversity, diversity, diversity.

Emily

Every student at UT is ambitious and hard working.

Laura

The people you meet at the University of Texas at Austin are extremely educated, diverse, and probably the most influencial people that you will ever meet; they will eventually become the basis of your college experience and your support through the difficulties of life.

Daniel

Julie

They are diverse and range by different classes.

My

They're going to be successful in whatever they pursue after graduation.

Ana

At the University of Texas at Austin, you will find that there is a high level of academic competition in the classroom; however, you will also find that your classmates are equally likely to want to form study groups and share notes. When test time comes, it's everybody for themselves.

My classmates (this year and for the next two semesters as I am in my professional development sequence for Education and have class with 21 other young women and we will be together until we graduate!) are an amazing (and fabulous) group of people and I feel blessed to know them.

Claire

Classmates at UT are friendly, most are studious, and, beyond the basic classes, interested in the class. You will NEVER have a completely Caucasian/other race, completely male/female, all Greek/non-Greek, or unanimous class. UT is very diverse: we have liberals/conservatives, preppies/hippies, partiers/academics...you name it, UT has it and you will have all types of people in most of your classes.

Holli

My classmates are going through everything I am, even though weare competing for the grade, they are willing to help and get to gether to study .

Josie

As I mentioned in the previous answer, my classmates are very diverse. They're fun, come from all over and have different reasons for wanting to succeed. I'm a human biology major as are most of the students I know. These students are pretty often stressed out and expressing their frustration for the giant course work we all face when we come home every afternoon/evening. Everyone is constantly worried about whether they'll get into med school, pharm school or whatever. Every now and again they get some social life thrown in there to recharge their batteries.

Nikki

There's a huge variety of people who go to this school and they all have something interesting to offer.
