Everything you need to know while at the Naval Academy will be taught to you during your freshman summer. The next four years will be a leadership laboratory where you will learn how to be a successful Naval Officer.

The inappropriate focus on athletics over academics.

How difficult balancing academics with all of the mandatory extracurricular activities would be. I knew it would be challenging, but I did not kow that averaging 4 hours of sleep a night during the weeks was a common occurence here.

I wish I would have known that the standards are much lower than they try to portray to the media and general public.

I wish I knew the best approach to the heavy load of reading and a sound strategy for managing the time provided to complete the requirements. Detailed consumption of all assigned reading is difficult to maintain over an extended period of time. A focused approach towards digging up the main ideas and themes is a better way to maximize reading time.

I wish I would have known all the rules and restrictions on students before I came. Recruiting coaches do not tell you about those.

I wish I had known more about the majors offered, and I wish I would have realized how much of a commitment it requires to go to the Naval Academy. I new it was a big commitment, but it turned out to be bigger than I thought it would be.

I think I knew as much as one reasonably could without experiencing the lifestyle in person.

During the first year you are not allowed to watch movies or listen to music.
