University of Arizona Top Questions

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Dustin

It is a lot easier to party if you are involved in greek life. Other wise, you just have to know people. Almost all parties involve drinking.

Travis

Everyone loves the basketball team the most followed by the football team. However, we are probably best at swimming, softball, and baseball. Greek life is somewhat big on campus. It's pretty hard for guys to get into frat parties unless they are in the frat. Girls, on the other hand, can pretty much go to whatever frat parties they want. People drink in the dorms a lot, mostly to pre-game for other parties they are going to go to. There's not a whole lot to do outside of campus. No one really goes to the movies or any of that.

Chris

The frats and sororities are the most popular things on campus the frat party's and the star pass pool party's are the best things to go to for a good time

Jordan

Greek life is very big on campus especially if you are an underclassmen. It is your best bet to join a fraternity or sorority to get your social networking started. Once you become an upperclassmen and move off campus, usually most of the social life is at house parties or the student apartment complexes. There is no shortage of events run by the sororities and fraternities that even those not in Greek life can take part in.

Alex

The most popular groups on campus are probably greek life and athletics. I'm involved in greek life and love it. It has made me expand my horizons and meet many different kinds of people, as well as get involved in the community. Students in the dorms always leave their doors open. Athletic events are very popular, but guest speakers and theater are not as well advertised. If i'm awake at 2 am I'm studying. I love hearing Bear Down at noon each day. Last weekend I hung out with friends and went to the movies. On a Saturday night that doesn't involve drinking, you can go to the Union and see a movie, or usually find a sporting event on campus to watch.

Dan

I am a member of Delta Tau Delta, which helps provide a background for a social life. Activities for Delt tend to involve things like late nights (Parties), ice cream socials, and kickbacks at someone's house. On a dry Saturday night, it can be nice to do something active like hiking or jogging.

brian

are sick

Greek Life is huge. A lot of people obsess about student government but most people dont care. Everyone reads the paper. The dorms are friendly. I would really reccomend living there your freshman year, you meet a ton of people. The sports games are AMAZING. Even if you dont wanna drink there are still plenty of parties to go to.

Tom

The basketball games here are really popular. Everybody takes a lot of pride in having a good basketball team.

Jeff

a lot of parties happen its always fun

Steven

The Greek Life is great to have a fun time and the guys in my house are some of my best friends. Secondly, there are parties whenever you want to party and it is also great to have a fake

Jeff

Fraternities and Sororities

Thomas

Football is huge at Arizona, we are a sports orientated school. Football events are usually always sold out here at Arizona. One of the main things also about being here is how fun the environment is, on game day there is always something going on. You don't have to drink to have fun, in fact the majority of the people at games don't drink. Thats basically saying "oh yea I need to drink in order to cheer for my team," thats baloney.

David

good

Lorie

Obviously there are some great activities to participate in especially because I am in a fraternity. the greek life here is one of my favorite parts about this school. I know so many people from so many backgrounds and they are almost all part of the greek community.

jon

greek life is huge on campus, thats where its mostly at for me at least

Carson

Greek life is a large percentage of the student body here at the UofA, especially for a guy I would recommend rushing a fraternity. For girls you have mroe options, because girls can get into whatever parties they want. However for guys and girls, greek life is a great way to meet a lot more people, and is also a great way to get involved with the school and the community.

Ryan

If I'm awake at 2am on a Tuesday I am either studying for a test or up watching seinfeld. Parties are HUGE here. Every weekend there's something big going on, I love it.

Maggie

most popular organizations on campus are greek. That includes multicultural, honors, and pre-law, med, vet, etc. fraternaties and sororities. There are a lot of non-greek affiliated honoraries. ASUA - big organization on campus Dorm life is huge - we can an insane amout of people who live on campus. Most dorms are clustered together - and the students interact with other dorms. Partying at the UA is very popular. I would majority of the students go out on the weekends to parties or events. Lots drink - but not all. In my 3 years at the UA I have not seen drugs as an issue at school ever. Obviously, people do them, but it is not a commong thing for students at all. Homecoming is a huge traditional event. As well as spring Fling. UA is known for annual events the whole school participats in. Sporting events are big and well attended.

Sarah

On campus im involved in greek life. Im a member of Chi Omega and my sorority is the main way I have met all my friends. Freshman year I met some of my best friends in my hall and we have stayed friends through Greek Life. Sports teams are very prodominent and popular. In Greek Life is where alot of the partying takes place becuase on campus at any given night you can find a Fraternity that is throwing some sort of party. Some people could party 5 nights a week but on average i would say most people go out at least 2 nights a week. This previous weekend my sorority hosted a date dash so me and my friends attended that and then I went and hung out with my boyfriend who is an old member of a Fraternity. Overall there is always someone to go out with and someone to stay in with.

Kendall

there is always a lot of stuff going on i love the activities that asua comes up with.

Scott

Greek life is huge. Lots of partying, people are for the most part outgoing and willing to hang out. Football games are huge, baseball and basketball are also popular.

Connie

PARTY

Mike

Theres only one word to describe the social life at arizona: greek. Greek life is the party life and this school parties harder than any other.

Betty

Some dorms are more social then others but most of them are social and willing to meet new people. A lot of people are still friends with their friends from high school. Especially if they are from Phoenix. Every year there is Homecoming and Spring Fling and sororities and fraternities are a big part of campus and is very competitive.

Michelle

The Greek community at U of A is very strong. Athletic events are extremely popular, our student sections are always full! We have a great live theater, as well as a movie theater right on campus. The dating scene is very fun, as there is a lot to do on and around campus. Some activities I enjoy are bowling, going to the movies, going camping, rock climbing and swimming just to name a few.

Dianne

We have a wonderful rec center that a lot of people go to exercise at everyday. Weekends usually consist of partying, we have a lot of those. However the library is always filled with students on the weekdays. Also there are always hiking trails that people go on.

Christina

The social life is amazing. There is always something going on and something to do, even if it's just having a movie night. There is never a dull moment at this university.

Jesse

greek life is really important for guys not so much for girls. if a guy is not greek he is lame

John

When I lived in the dorms I often left my dorm room door open and I think it depends on which dorm you live in for how much students interact. When I lived in VDP there were the social people who would come in and chat or hang out for a bit and there were people who would barely ever look you in the eye when you passed them in the halls. In Manzi Mo my freshman year my floor was awesome but the rest of the dorm is mostly fine arts so really only knew and hung out with people on my floor since the artsy people were pretty distant and weird. Greek life is definitely a huge part of Arizona, but its definitely not required to have a good time. I rushed as a sophomore and had plenty of fun before joining a fraternity, but have a different experience these days than I had had before joining. Greek or not if you're up for it you can manage to party 3 days a week or more, with Thursdays mostly being a bar night and Fridays and Saturdays being house parties or apartment parties. Off campus has plenty of activities depending on what you're into, there are two malls fairly close, bowling alley, 4th avenue has a lot of unique stores and bars as well as eateries.

Elizabeth

I am in Chi Omega sorority. I have had many wonderful social experiences such as date dashes. They are a lot of fun and can also include friends outside of greek life. They are a way to attend a themed party with all of your friends without going to a fraternity. I also have met close friends, and my boyfriend, at my apartment complex. Because my major, chemical engineering, is relatively small, I now see friends I met there socially outside of class.

Molly

Social life is great here. There is always something to do. I love themed parties, and there are themed parties almost every weekend. Dorms are social for the most part. I made a lot of friends in my dorm freshman year. Movies at Gallager are cheap and fun. There is always ultimate frisbee going on on the mall. There are tons of sporting events. Gymcats is one of my favorites that a lot of people don't know about.

Chris

The activities and socail life here at the University is both fun and exciting. Some people put their socail lives in front of their school work, which makes doing well very difficult. However, for those who school matters more, the social life is great.

amanda

I met my closest girls friends through a number of different communities. I was fortunate enough to have a beautiful roomate who was raised dancing and with the same christian morals and values and drive by her parents. The girls in my wing of my dorm are amazing. They are equally vibrant and down-to-earth individuals who are involved on campus and are commited to acheiving. Majors on my floor range from acting and dance to education to cellular and molecular biology. I also met a larger portion of my friends from my sorority. My sisters are highly involved on campus and helped me find outlets in clubs and activities from community service to social groups. Even though the campus is large and there are over 40,000 people present everyday. Students are able to establish a small community of friends who share common beliefs and academic standards.

lauren

The best thing about Arizona is the many different clubs on campus. If you are not Greek then you are involved in sports, or culture, or religion, or something. Everything is available and ready to sign you up! And there are so many alternatives to drinking on the weekends. The cellar has activites and sometimes ASUA will plan concerts and events on the mall.

Kelsey

There are amazing intramurals, clubs, and greek life opportunities to get involved with. You can find an extracurricular activity that is perfect for anyone. It is really encouraged to get involved on campus so you can meet people with the same interests as you. There is always a social life on campus, no matter what time day or night you can find someone to spend time with and chill. It is a blast to see the campus come alive for big sporting events.

Kaitlin

There is always something to do on the UA campus no matter what you are interested in. The pride and traditions of the UA create a positive environment at all events. The athletic events are extremely popular and a unforgettable experience. The student support for the sports teams is unbelievable and of the best in the nation. The UA is what you make it. Whether you drink or not, you can always find something fun to do. People party as much or as little as they want. There is no set limit. Dorm life is very social and a very good way to meet people. It is also a good place to live and easy place to get your work done.

Krista

I met my closest friends through my sorority and a club called freshman class council.

Dance

yes, students leave their doors open. Athletic events are popular - we have one of the biggest student sections. Greek life is big - there are always parties on the weekends.

Deven

Greek life at the UofA is one of the biggest on the west coast. its very prevalent despite the fact that only 11{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the student population is greek. i absolutely love my sorority and i have alot of friends who are in other sororities and friends who are not greek. Im also in the pre-med honorary fraternity, one of the biggest clubs on campus. its alot of fun. it helps you meet alot of people and prepare for med school admissions. my floor in my dorm is extremely social and most of us usually have our doors open when we are in the room. i met my closest friends during rush. One is now in my sorority and the other one is in a different sorority. otherwise my other close friends are from my dorm.

Alyssa

I am involved with greek life (sorority). There is always something going on every weekend - not everyone drinks though. You can go dancing, to the movies, dinner etc without drinking.

Kendal

Going to the basketball game is a huge deal! People wait in line overnight so they can get tickets to see the games. But really, all the sporting events are a big deal. Everyone gets ready to go to them and cheer on our school.

Jessica

I'm a huge advocate for Greek life, which comprises about 15{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of our campus. The different houses have very different values and reputations, but if you give it a try, you have a great shot at finding your 'family' away from home. Which, isn't to say that you have to be Greek to fit in on campus, there's thousands of ways to meet everyone on campus, so find a way to get involved.

Lauren

I am so glad I joined a sorority. It was an instant way to make lifelong friends! Truly amazing young women who I can't imagine life at UofA without! If you don't drink there is still plenty to do. Try great resaurants around Tucson, catch a movie, go shopping, play frisbee, go work out at the rec center......there are tons of options!

Melissa

I want to ban thedirty.com This awful website exposes nasty rumors about people on campus. The website is national and has a U of A link so that people may contribute to the ridiculous content in place. It hurts people's feelings and serves no greater good. Other than that, I am pleased with the social life at the U of A.

Jamie

My freshman year I was on an athletic team at Arizona. It was a great experience but you do not always meet as many people because it is a smaller group. The greek system is not the biggest group on campus, however, I have found that it is a great way to make this school seem smaller. Also, many of the fraternities hold competitions between the different sororities in order to raise money for their philanthropy. Which is a great way to meet new the guys in the different houses. This past year we had Hilary Clinton make a speech in Bear Down gym. We also have bands like the Plain White Ts come and play in Centennial Hall, which is on campus. The dating scene, well for some people its good, I haven't found a guy but I'm still optimistic. Homecoming is a HUGE tradition. Alumni come back, the Greeks all celebrate, probably one of the most fun weeks! In the spring there is Spring Fling and the students put on the largest student run carnival. If I'm awake at 2 am on tuesday I'm probably studying. People party when ever they feel like it. Every weekend some people start on thursday night, some people who are 21 go to the bars on weds it just depends if you are in the mood. If you don't want to drink you can go to the movies. There was a fair that just ended, there are things to do for whatever you ideals for a night are.

Dana

Greek Life is really prominent at the U of A, but there are also many other ways to get involved. There are a ton of great clubs with ASUA, clubs having to do with different majors, and even just random fun clubs that go out on the mall. The social life here is great if you want to party, but also great if you just want to sit back and have a movie night in your dorm or apartment. There is always something to do if you're bored, and especially if you're involved in either Greek Life, Clubs, or Athletics.

Parker

Im in a fraternity and it is very fun. I have met a lot of people and it has made my college life a lot more fun. I feel everyone should join a organization

Austin

The social life at arizona is great. i go to a ton of parties every week. fraternities and sororities are pretty big, because most of the big parties are there, or at a pool party. Other than that there are a couple of small house parties and such. most of the events or activities involve drinking in some way

Theodora

Athletic events are always strongly attended. With the friends I have surrounded myself with and my sorority I am able to have a sober night on the weekend if I so choose and I know I can find some friends that will join. The dating scene is apparent but extremely skewed since much of the male population does not know how.
