The variety of student organizations on campus and how students have the ability to be involved with administration

Hyun

basketball, campus

Michael

My school is very large.

Katelyn

Excellent facilities in a beautiful part of the state. I grew up in a small, rural town, so being here makes me feel more comfortable. Plus there are cows that live across from my dorm.

Rina

Some may feel that being at UConn, we are closed off from the rest of society. Storrs is a small town, but has managed to bring together thousands of students, faculty, and people from all over, making it a small city in its own. It's big enough in that everyday you can meet at least 5 new people, and small enough in that each of the 5 people you met the day before knows someone else you have met elsewhere on campus. It can be a social school, and academically challenging at the same time.

Kerri

The University setting instead of an art school provided more diversified experience than an art school would have provided. Gave me more exposure to other areas of interest when trying to declare my major and minor area of studies. It gave me a good college experience without having to sacrifice a good art program.

James

The size may seem overwhelming, but it's what makes UConn great. you will never get bored, you will never be lonely, and you'll always feel included. some other small schools i visit don't have the school spirit or friendliness that UConn has. the social aspect aside, the classes are great. big classes are the way to go. You will know someone in your class to study with on top of that almost all test are multiple choice or a single essay. also if you miss a class, you can get the lecture online.

Mary

Very school spirited, well stocked on entertainment and all inclusive (like things needed during the week).

Mary

It has an amazing financial aid program that really makes a difference. Also, the size allows for a lot of different interests. Despite there not being a lot around the campus, it still has a plethera of types of student groups, ranging from human rights, to media groups (radio station, tv station, several papers), to an undergraduate student government, to political and social groups, volunteer organizations and fraternities and sororities. There's a lot to look forward to, although it can often get in the way of school work if you're not careful.

Kathleen

UConn is the only in-state school I considered. This is because UConn would be a lot cheaper to attend than any other school. It also had my major (actuarial science) which is offered by only a handful of colleges around the US.

Francisco

Its campus is somewhat like a tiny city in a very rural setting. Unlike a city, it has almost no stores, unfortunately.

Nicholas

Unique? Well, everything that is already unique about Connecticut. Otherwise we're jsut the standard research intensive university.

Erica

The school spirit and unity of everyone that goes there. No matter how different you are from your neighbor, you will always have one huge thing in common, and that is that you both have pride in your school and connect with each other in a way that you wouldnt be able to connect with anyone else.

Harlan

There is much more variety in both the curriculum and the extracurriculers than anywhere else I considered, catering to nearly any taste possible. If there isnt what you want, you can design your own major or create your own club or organization. There are many hundreds of majors to choose from with many minors to acompany your choice, and a multitide of activities and services to occupy any remaining free time as one chooses. It is an exciting place to be due to the variety of options and people.

Kristi

We have a huge school of agriculture, which means the campus is surrounded by a big farm -- but we do have our own homemade ice cream. The campus also largely sustains itself, which is cool.

Emily

It had everything I was looking for. I wanted a large school with a big, diverse population. It's reputation for education, particularly in my field, was great for a public school. It has a huge athletics program and I LOVE sports. You don't have to go out and party to find something to do or have a good time. There is always something going on and anyone can feel at home.

John

There is nothing really unique about my school. It?s a big state school with lots of opportunities and a solid academic base. I chose to come to Uconn to run track knowing that I would be able to find a major that fit me. My priorities quickly changed and now I?m doing engineering and have a much more balanced life. Uconn is a good school with lots of academic and social opportunities.

Derek

IT IS AWESOME. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO.

Ralph

I turned down a combined 7 year BS/DMD program affiliated with NYU's Dental School to attend the University of Connecticut....there was just something here that drew me in and made me feel like a belong. The school spirit is palpable, that social opportunities are endless, the extra-curricular opportunites are readily accessible, and I had a chance to start my own Greek-letter academic fraternity; all for an in-state tuition rate.

Kyle

At first the large size is intimidating, but it is really part of the school atmosphere and sets it apart from other schools. The size of UConn provides for countless opportunities for new activities and to meet new people. The space allows for the individual to discover and experience something that is all their own. It lets them take away something unique and different from the school, which puts the school in a league of it's own.

AJ

some of the best years of my life so far. Uconn is a place you'll never forget and alot of crazy spring weekend party night, intramural sports games, and meeting alot of cool people first hand can show you what I mean alot more than this write up will. I highly recommend Uconn.

Jessica

Every year is going to be different at UConn, but there will always be things to look forward to, people to meet, and things to learn. Make sure you find an adviser that you like, who can help you,, and pays attention. Often students find themselves in a jam when their schedules aren't working out right because an adviser hasn't been paying attention. Everyone will tell you South Dining Hall is the best. But its not worth waiting in line. Go to Northwest. UConn can be a very fun place to go to school, but don't be stupid with your decisions. A lot of things can get you in big trouble.

Dave

UCONN is really a great school and Im definitely enjoying my time there

Jessica

I just want this campus to offer more culturally diverse events & activities for all students. I would not change my academics.

kat

if you are looking for a good education, uconn is great. if you are looking for an amazing night life, uconn is not so good. uconn is going to be what you make of it, there is definitely plenty to do, but it wont always seem as obvious as you may like. oh yeah, and please please please do not forget to take advantage of study abroad. if there is one thing you can do for yourself while at uconn, or any college for that matter, it would be GO STUDY IN ANOTHER COUNTRY!

Amy

Stay true to yourself! UConn is a big school and it's easy to get sucked up in the wrong crowd. Make smart decisions and remember where you came from because those people that helped me to get into college, are helping me get through college.

Bethany

I love UConn. The campus is gorgeous and although there may not be a whole lot going on off campus (not walkable distance), there are enough activities to get anyone through the day.

Hunter

It is very hard to get into classes because there are so many students trying to complete GenEds, but not enough staff to teach them. Therefore you end up taking classes that have nothing to do with your major or what you would like to explore as a major.

Michele

I'm not going to lie. I HATED UConn my freshman year. I was barely involved, I was bored, I was far from home. But then I lost the nagging boyfriend and the bitchy roommate, and now I feel so at home at UConn, and I'm loving every minute (well, except for those lovely late night paper writing sessions till 4 am...). My advice to incoming freshmen: -You might be "in love" with your significant other, but if they live an hour or more away, break it off if they're not coming with you. Unless you REALLY think you can pull off the long distance thing, DON'T. Just don't even attempt it if there's any doubt in your mind. -ROOMMATES. If you have doubts about your roommate compatibility factor after week 2, my advice is to SWITCH. Haste, post haste. Ask your CA about how to do it. 9 times out of 10, you'll be so much better off. I've found this to be true for girls more than guys.

Jess

The food is only good at towers.

Melissa

the university is great, but the academic advisor's are pretty horrible. do your research. i know so many people who have been screwed out of graduating on time due to depending on an adviser too much. Also if you don't know your major when you step foot into the door, don't expect to graduate in 4 years, this is very unlikely, I know.

Victoria

UCONN! HUSKIES!

Blake

UConn is great. There's something for everyone and you will find people with whom you'll get along great, you just have to look around a little.

Renee

All in all, I love Uconn. Even though sometimes I feel awkward because there isnt that much diversity.

Emily

The food is actually pretty good ... depending on where you go. South and Towers are, more often than not, pleasant surprises. Buckley, on the other hand, is awful, but it makes an effort; it's just serves too few people to have enough choices. East is hit or miss becasue they use all local foods (including dairy bar ice cream, yum!) so sometimes it's amazing and sometimes not so much. North is okay, Northwest is better than North, but not as good as Towers. I haven't eaten at Putnam (aka: Hilltop) or McMahon yet, but I hear that they're about as good as North, which is quite tolerable.

Rachael

If you play an instrument, join marching band (UCMB, Pride of Connecticut, the really loud people behind Charter Oak). If you don't play an instrument, learn one. Then join marching band.

Lauren

campus population is growing too quickly so it's very hard to get the classes and dorms we would like. need more dorms/classes or should cut back on enrollment capacities

Alix

Uconn experience was amazing!

katie

Although it may sound not so great by what I've said at times, it really is a great university and i have had a blast here. The housing is ok, the food is ok, and the classes are ok...but i mean what can we expect...we're in college....just know who you are and make the best of it and you'll love it here!!!!! GO HUSKIES!

Shannon

UConn is awesome! I have no regrets coming here & I would stay here forever if I could.

Jesse

Uconn is the worst place to be in the winter. When the wind blows it feels like someone is slapping you in the face. Some times I want to scream, "What did I do to you?!!!" It snows so much! and going sledding on horsbarn hill is the best, but walking to class-and you know you have to cuz all the buses are full-is torture. I honestly pray that classes get cancelled just so I don't have to deal with the cold. And then on top of that, you get crazy people going outside in sweatshirts, short skirts with the tights and flip flops! That was the most amazing thing I ever saw. I was mystified, because my mother always told me: "Just because it's sunny outside doesn't mean that it's warm." I guess they never got the message.

marisa

Uconn is a great place to be if you are serious about studying and getting a good education from very good professors. The professor here are the best

Chelsea

The on campus apartments were built pretty recently and are the best housing on campus.

Natasha

Overall its a great college, to go to class, meet one or two people you can truely call your friends, and really become independent and ready for the future. But.... its really impersonal. Its such a huge campus its hard for one to get to know their professors, or even keep in touch with friends. Sometimes I'm not even sure the professors care if you pass. They just want to teach to make a living, and don't care if you absorb anything. Its also a very hypocritical college. Its seems as though the college wants to say they care about the enviroment, when there is so much waste in the dining halls. I have seen so much fruit and food thrown away when barely eaten it makes me sick. There will always be waste, but allowing a student to grab whatever they want and throw it away, while trying to show the campus as a school looking out for the enviroment, just doesn't makes sense to me.
